View Full Version : Stubbie'd my endcan.
Last weekemd I got a phone call from WRC63 who said "Do you remember what we talked about on Thursday ?"
"No" I replyed.
So apparentaly we said we would cut it down.
So saturday morn Dan (aka WRC63) came round to do some cutting.
Looks a bit too Long IMHO

I was just about to create a post asking how to do this. Is it just a case of cutting through the whole lot or should you take the end plate off then cut through each bit separately? Did you buy a new 'band' to rivet the end back on or make use of the old one?

NO
Did you buy a new 'band' to rivet the end back on or make use of the old one? used the old one. as it has no wrighting on it ;-)
getting the endcap back in was a nightmere...
Cheers Richie. Looks like I have a project for next weekend! :) Do you happen to know whether it will make it an MOT fail just by making it stubby?
Very sexy, Richie!
And the stubby isn't bad either!:D

As Lissa said.
I dought it very much... unless you take it to a very analy retentive MOT inpector.

It's quite rude... shall we say...
I had to put the baffel back in as it was as loud without it in as it was with no end can fitted at all.

Does yours have a baffle insert on it richie? Im just wondering if it does what effect it has putting it in...
how so?
its an oval endcan not round so it was a bit out of shape...
we cut a few V notches in the endcap and finally got it home.
ps. point to note... don't push it in too far as extraction can become difficult :smt021

My cut down fuel can still has provision for a baffle, it does the same job, makes it fairly quiet.

I've been thinking of doing this to my micron. As far as I can tell, I don't have a removable baffle, or if I do, it was long gone by the time I got the bike.. So I'm a bit worried about cutting off a few inches and having it too loud and not being able to do anything about it

Just gone and had a look at mine.. here's a couple of pics. To me (and I don't know a thing ;)) it looks like a bit too much work to cut this down, or is it doable?
It screws in from the end, not on the sides of the can itself.

Bolts are about 15mm long.

Also, it's a nice can, and not a cheap one. Would be a shame to cut it, I think.
Maybe look for a cheap one on e bay, and cut that down. Then if it doesn't work, you haven't ruined your good one.
We do just happen to have a stainless steel ART can in our spare room:D
Hmmm... now i have a problem to cut my existing fuel exhaust down or to save up for a scorpion extreme stubby, what to do what to do?

We used this formula.
Area of Primary Pipe = RPM ? Cylinder Size ?649cc
This determines the pipe's cross-sectional area, from which we can calculate the ID. Typical exhaust pipes are 18ga. (wall thickness of .049”), so the OD will be .098” larger. From this we can construct a formula for an 8 cylinder motor, and factor in the 18ga. wall thickness:
Area of Primary Pipe = RPM ? Motor Size ? 705,600
Pipe ID2 = RPM ? Motor Size ? 705,600 ? .7854
Pipe ID2 = RPM ? Motor Size ? 554,177
ID = (RPM ? Motor Size ? 554,177).5
OD = (RPM ? Motor Size ? 554,177).5 + .098”
then divided by 4 to make it a V-twin....
then cut off to what looked good.

Nice job there Richie, looks the dogs danglies, i was toying with the idea to do that with the Triumph, but further investigation by some more technically apt people than myself said it'd probably run a whole lot richer/leaner and would have to start remapping the engine...too much hassle in my eyes :(
Is this also the case on the SV or will it run different as it has 2 less pots?

did a search thingy and found this from Raf (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=102947&highlight=standard+exhaust)...
Right let's get things pointed out correctly here about end cans on the SV:
1) No it doesn't add power to your bike. The standard exhaust doesn't restrict the engine so all you get is a different engine noise. You don't have to remap the ECU or rejet the carbs if you are only fitting an end can.
2) Yes you have to cut the downpipe to do it. Make sure that the can is for your model of bike (curvy or pointy).
3) Be aware that you can is road legal or not. There are implications if it is not road legal. There is plenty of talk about it on the forum, use the search function.
4) You MUST tell your insurance company, not telling them might (or probably will) make you insurance null and void. However since it's an SV you can tell them that the can is NOT a performance enhancing can, most insurance companies don't charge extra for that. But they will ask if the can is road legal or not and can get quite arsey about it.
5) USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. This topic is well covered on the forum.
That is all....

I'm not convinced the standard exhaust is not restrictive, mine picked up a bit of a flat spot when fitting a normal can. Where did the extra gas go?
IMO it's just not that massive a change, so usually no rejetting is needed
Looks like a quality job that.
I'm going to have to take another couple of inches off mine now, can't have you being the loudest bike in the 'Lane.
