I was appalled that after electronically submitting my previous insurers details at registration, that I (the paying customer) have to get proof of NCD and then send it onto ebike (got a letter from ebike saying that I haven't sent it off yet).

Two things really

1. Why are they not doing this all electronically anyway?? the more unscrupulous could concoct a letter themselves.

2. Similar to above, even if paper is needed, why are they not doing this themselves?? Surely going direct would not only make it less likely for the customer to deceive, but relieving the paying customer of this burden and added expense ... (phone call, envelope, postage etc)

finally in this day and age of computer connectivity and the fact ebike is computer based, what about the trees that are being felled to provide paper proof of NCD for no good reason??

I sent a snotogram email to ebike customer care and will phone them on Monday ...

I will obviously get and send the NCD, but am appalled I have to do so!!

Surely they'll confirm it anyway?
Or would they only do that in case of an accident?

My point entirely, and made in the snotogram and will be in my phonecall to ebike customer care tomorrow!! :smt013

I had to send them into bennetts, I thought it was just because they were ****e... (im getting away asap).

Erm so do all insurance companies make us customers do all the leg work when it comes to confirming the NCD?

:( Pain in the **** insurance companies. :smt098

What's the big deal? Insurer wants proof of NCB? 30 pence for a stamp and an envelope liberated from the stationery cupboard at work later and you're sorted. You'll be complaining that they sometimes want a copy of your licence next.

I've just swapped my car insurance, and they didn't ask for the proof to be sent - the pack just had a form letter stating that I'd have to prove it if I did need their services.

outrageous. insurance companies can do what they like, just shut up and bend over. :P

on a serious note, I think insurance companies are up there with the inland revenue and call centres on my target list.:smt032

And then the insurance is invalid and the insurance company doesnt have to pay out. Gives them another possible escape route. Insurance is just a scam with most companies IMO.

Id say all are!

So do all companies require you to do this run around with getting NCB paperwork?

Carole nash just asked me for my bennetts policy number over the phone, I asked if they wished me to get proof they said no you don't have to ring them or anything.

Because they want another possible "get out clause", the more of those they have, the more chance they have of getting out of paying out.

The letter said if I didn't provide proof of NCD, that they will cancel my insurance, so that isn't the case ;)

Oh come on. For decades if you change policy you have needed to prove your NCB. Usually you just need to send them the schedule on your renewal notice for your existing provider. That is sufficient proof.

OK, when I changed from ebike to NCD they were able to get the proof they needed electronically, simply by me providing the old policy number. It really depends on whether your existing policy provider is sharing data electronically.

T'is no deal. So why winge. They were obviously cheaper than your old provider. If you don't like having to prove you entitled to a discount. Go back to your old provider

I am insured with e-bike and it was all done electronically? Maybe it is your old insurance company who are not supplying the details? e-bike customer services are pretty good if you get the right person.

I said, about the letter and that I submitted my details ? she said ?ah, yes, in your case ebike managed to confirm your NCD? ? so I said ?so shall I just ignore the letter then?? she said yes ?

I mean WTF is going on there?!!?? :(

Exactly Blue ... and it doesn't end there ... After my off last year (almost a year ago to the day), I phoned my insurers (eBike) about the accident, but said that as I was lay on my back in the outside lane of the motorway at the time, I didn't manage to get the name of the idiot who pulled out and hit me ... they told me that I would have to speak to the police who were at scene at the time ... so several days (and several phone calls) later ... I eventually speak to the officer who was in attendance, who kindly gave me all the details (he even gave me the guys full name, address and registration - none of this data protection bo||ocks), and THEN told me that I really ought to be getting my insurers to do this, as that was what NORMALLY happened ... not very impressed with eBike on that score ... nor about trying to get hold of their customer services (I wish you luck) ... but all done n dusted now, and I'm with MCE this year :)

To be honest, I think that for the price, and the ease-of-use (most things done online), the minor niggles which is what they are really, weren't worth bad-mouthing them at the time ;-)
At the end of the day, it didn't affect the outcome of my claim (I was at fault for filtering too fast - d'oh!) ;-)

It was only a tenner cheaper for me ... and I lost out on 'any bike' cover .. I took it us as I liked the idea of being able to stitch up to 4 bikes on my policy 8)

Well it was my first bike insurance and was a quite a bit cheaper than the competition at the time.
Now you come to mention that "any bike" cover, I think I may actually have been riding around without proper insurance cover for 3 months of last year, as I never checked my insurance policy with respect to covering me on "loan" bikes whilst mine was in for repair. I just thought I'd automatically be covered, but not sure by whose insurance?!? Mine or the dealers??

Is MCE cheap? I just tried their site and it isnt working... :smt038

MCE were the cheapest for me ... admittedly I didn't ring round a LOT of insurers.
But eBike were the cheapest by far for my first year's insurance. Then they quoted me around £475 for my 2nd year (after 1 "my fault" accident).

I phoned MCE and they quoted me £330, which because I'm paying monthly, brings it up to about £380, but its still almost £100 cheaper than eBike.

Some of the places I got quotes from were bloody ridiculous.
Carol Nash couldn't do me a policy for less than £500 (and that was with a fairly big excess). MCE's website also actually quoted me some ridiculous figure, but cos I left them my number during the quote, they actually phoned me back within minutes!

Before long, the guy on the end of the phone had managed to get my quote down to £330, and said that if the bike was garaged, he could have done it for "well under £300".

Give them a call and try ... can't do any harm ;-)

Ill give MCE a ring. Ive already got a great quote from H&S insurance, its like £500 cheaper than anyother!

What I want is for an insurace company to insure me with 3 year NCB 2 weeks before I get the 3rd year NCB... I might phone MCE and H&S and see what they think. Reason i want to do this is that my current insurer (bennetts & AXA) wont change my insurance from the SV650 to the Aprilia Falco... GITS.

Has anyone done this before, use the NCB a couple of weeks before they actually accumulate them?
