Was just wondering, does anyone have a preference when it comes to corners?

I really don't mind leaning over left, can get my knee down if I try hard enough (on some corners). But when it comes to leaning to the right, on roundabouts for example, the thought of leaning over just half as far gives me the willies and I don't know why!

Anyone else experienced this, have any idea why?

Cheers

Not fussed at all. I like one as much as the other.

Think its just one of these things, some folk are left handed, something to do with the stronger side of the brain. Personally I'm better with right hand bends but I think thats to do with the fact you get so much practise on roundabouts.

I used to be worse in rights, after low-siding one of the training school bikes during DAS (still can be, if I've gone a bit over the safe limit). Generally though, I don't have a preference - I'm equally slow in both at the moment.

Apparently thats the most common way.

I'm sure i read some research from some dodgy university that homosexuals dress to the right.

I hate left turns.

Just don't feel as confident as when I'm turning right.

I'm better at left handers than right. It's cos I'm right handed and it dates back to the days when I was a kid with a scooter. Scooting with my left foot made left handers safe but right handers a bit uncomfortable. Then there's the psychological damage of being locked in the cupboard...........

Ahh glad it's not just me with a cornering issue. I tend not to like left ..... last one I did I came off LOL hehe. Maybe I cn plan my route only turning right ... wonder where I will end up LOL

Right handers seem more natural to me, but I can do lefts equally as well, I just have to concentrate a lot more. Before I had my stroke I could do either without thinking about it, now lefts make me a touch nervous for some reason.

I'm a lefty :D I don't really know why, I think I've actually crashed more times on lefts than right but it just always feels more comfortable (even though I suppose it's less safe). Something about the perception of other objects probably, in a right your wheels are closer to the edge of the road and assorted debris, and your head's closer to the oncoming traffic, so there's a doubel psychological effect there maybe. Also, most of the interesting corners on my commute are lefts.

I prefer left as well dont know why tho! think its probably much the same as northwind and the fact that my head is closer to oncoming traffic

fine with lefties but not as confident turning right. On right hand bends its the thought of misjudging slightly and having on coming traffic to deal with (as opposed to a curb or other side of the road type object when on a left hander)... also because i feel when turning right, having to control the throttle and twist the bars is extra brain processing wot not. maybe i just shouldnt be on two wheels lol

Lefts feel more natural to me, but I can do rights just as well I think.
Might have something to do with my eyesight.. my left eye is perfect but my right is more for continuity from the outside :P My right eye is like your peripheral vision..

Is this before or after your off?

Back where you started :-P Or alternatively if your SV is very fast, then you may even end up rear-ending yourself

More confident with left hand bends than right but not sure why? I was probably worried about going too far to the left (on a right-hander) and hitting gravel or the pavement? Didn't know how to read the right hand bends at all. Now much improved with practice and some advanced tuition.

I don't seem to mind left or right bends in general ... however I found myself actually taking quite a detour just to avoid an oblique left-hand bend that would have been almost like carrying out a U-turn ... but since I practiced those half to death on DAS, I don't mind doing U-turns at all ... as long as I can do them turning to my right ... just don't seem to like doing the same going left ... so perhaps that's something else for me to practice next time I'm out on the bike (that and emergency braking ... just in case ... cos ya never know when ya might need to) :)

Prefer and maybe better at lefts.

No difference on a track which was a surprise.

Self preservation on the road? You don't take a such a good line on rights on the road for fear of sticking your head into on-coming cars.

Nah,summit in your head.........

Skiddy stop on iceskates and skis only to left. Regular on a skateboard. Write wi' right, kick with left.

Funny you should mention that about skiing, same with me, to the left.

After reading all the posts perhaps i should have mentioned i came off on a roundabout about 2 weeks after i started riding (NSR125). maybe thats where it all comes from!!

I'm the opposite, i can do a u-turn going left in the tiniest gaps, but right i need a lot more road. I can't blame this on learning to ride in France as i've done far higher miles in England. I always put it down to being right handed.

I'm right-handed too though and still find it easier doing tight u-turns to the right ... maybe it's my ambidextrousness :-P

Its a strange one I'm defo more comfortable in rights. When it comes to lefts I can lean well but my toes always seem to touch down and I cant position my self as well, my left knee is abit dodgy which may be adding to my lack of ability in that department problem.

I also have an irrational fear of over shooting a corner into an oncoming car since a guy nearly took me out doing just that, and after seeing a nasty one on the Cat & Fiddle last summer. I would rather over shoot on a right into a wall than over shoot on a left into on coming traffic and have a combined spped to worry about.

It has to be said though I'm a complete noob and still have learning wobbles in corners once in a while where I'm not experience enough to judge the speed and havnt quite got the hand of watching that point in a corner where the road dissapears that they teach you in advanced lessons.
