Hello,

Joined up earlier today but have only just got chance to post. I've just put a deposit down on a 2005 SV650 for my girfriend, Gemma. It's only done 2500 miles and looks like it's never been out on damp roads, let alone in the rain! Apparently, it belonged to a lady in her 60's.

Anyway, I actually own and ride a Triumph Speed Triple 955i but used to own a bandit. The bandit was my first big bike and, if i had the money, i'd track it down and buy it back! I loved it.. it had renthal bars, LED tail lights and a straight through Scorpion exhaust - Sounded great. I've ridden for as long as i can remember and held my full licence since 2003. Gemma's held her bike licence for 12 months but passed on her 125 so is restricted for another 12 months. Just felt it was about time she got on a big bike :)

We've just got to wait for the 33bhp restrictor to be fitted to the SV before we can pick it up. Here are a few of photos i took with my phone when i went to have a look...

Welcombo.

I like my Bandit too :) And i liked my SV. In fact, if its on 2 wheels, the suns out, the roads are dry, then i'll enjoy it (or damp road, just makes the bike dirty  )

PS, you got her the slowest colour. Black is fastest ;) (queue banter.......)

Daimo is wrong, yellow is best.

33bhp restricted SV's are still a pretty handy tool, mine's restricted and i still find it useable, its only on motorways and faster A-roads that I wish i could have a bit more power, but for riding about town and along twisties, the bike copes fine :D Your partner will learn alot with that bike, its a good choice :D

Welcome, and all that

Matt

thanks for all the welcomes :-D

It's definitely on a 2005 plate but must have been registered late on. It looks like it's never been out of the showroom to be honest. The pictures dont do it justice really but we'll get some better ones once we've got it at home.

The exhaust will have to wait for now as it will mess with the 33bhp restrictor. Better to be safe than sorry until the 33bhp restriction is lifted i suppose. They do sound good on sporty/open pipes though

My triple is fitted with a noisy can so they'll hear us coming once we're both on aftermarket cans!

i thought it might increase the bhp slightly, possibly enough to void the insurance.. would prefer to play it safe if this is a possibility..

Interesting about the aftermarket can not adding any bhp - that's my main reson for holding off on one as Im restricted too.

gemmandmarksv
25-01-08, 07:07 PM
i think you'd have to be very careful not to increase the bhp by fitting a pipe.. you know what the insurance companies are like.. anything to get out of paying up!

We're hoping to pick the SV up tomorrow subject to us not being snowed in!

Weather forecast isn't too hopefull but we can always get it delivered next week if we don't get it this weekend. It's Gemma birthday in a couple of weeks so it will be a nice early Christmas present :)

Yup bunch of c0ckends.

However if in doubt you could always check it on a dyno, I have a hunch that the stock restrictor kit is set very conservatively, so the likelyhood is there's no problem.
Even if it is making 33.1bhp (slip on adds very little power) then I very much doubt you'd be convicted over 0.1bhp.

oops - that was supposed to say birthday present. Saying that, i'm paying towards it and Gemma's already been warned it's her birthday and Christmas presents all rolled into one for a few years

Thanks for the welcomes. I'll get some decent pics once we've got it home

Cheers  The beetle's mine.. it's not too well at the moment but goes well normally.

The bike's great.. very smooth. I rode it back from the bike shop and, apart from being just a tad cold, it was great :)

Nice looking bike and love the colour. :o

However, it may be a trick of the light, but that rear looks really squared off.

gemmandmarksv

You're right, the tyre does look a bit squared off in the picture. It's not though.. must be just the angle
