I use spybot S&D and installed to alert on any registry changes etc.

I also use ad-aware, regular runs of cc-cleaner etc. Occasional runs of sysinternals rootkitrevealer. (I once got a rootkit nasty, and it was a beast to find/destroy until I found this tool)

I forgot, I also use Hijack-this. It is a powerful, but very dangerous tool if run by somebody with more enthusiasm than knowledge.

Stay away from those dodge Russian sites and you'll be fine mate....

Plus, what they said.

Spy Bot also has some rather nice advanced tools they cleans up your reg and start up files. But the best bit about these is that it has a little pop out menu that tells you what most of these things are for (so you can remove realplayer auto start and stuff). I've been using it for about 6-7 years and while its not the most advanced or has most features it always works.

I'm an ignoranus and trust McAfee. I pay up every year and keep me fingers crossed! Me mate uses Norton which seems to take his entire computer resourses, allowing him to occasionally use the computer for himself
