Several folks have expressed an interest in trying white water rafting. We are lucky in the BP area in that we have a year round facility at Canolfan Tryweryn (http://www.ukrafting.co.uk/) near Bala. My daughter is a raft guide at the center and so I can arrange a trip for everyone if there is enough interest.

So folks, who's up for this?

EDIT: Have added a poll of possible dates. It is a multiple choice poll, so tick all the weekends you can make. The results are public so you can see who is going on which weekends if you really want to be with someone.

You can sit in the bailer bucket....... So that still leaves 8 seats in one raft! :joker:

No need to be able to swim Stewie, the raft guides get beasted for losing clients over the side. Also the river is only about 15 foot wide and two feet deep, but you need to take heed of safety briefing about standing in fast water....

Would be no problem for a non-swimmer and is also a great family day out (cos the missus can sit in the cafe and watch you go by, while laughing at your folly :D)

Depends on session length (2 hour or 4 hour I believe) which is dependant on how much you wanna spend.

I would say 2 hour session will be enough for folks to get knackered. That should be 3 runs down the river. We can be a little picky about start time as Lowri will be our guide. She is seeing if she can do a deal with the centre.

Perhaps we will have enough interest for more than one raft or more than one session with non-rafters cheering from the cafe....

jamessunhill
29-01-08, 12:17 AM
I'd be up for that, but the only date that'd be any good for me is the 5th/6th as it's my leaving p**s up the following weekend and after that, I'm in training.

Lissa
29-01-08, 07:00 AM
The only problem I can see with the 5/6th is it's the weekend after NW3...............may be just a bit to close to that for some people.:(

Luckypants
29-01-08, 09:08 AM
Well that's why there's a date poll Lissa! Folks can vote for when then want to come as is most suitable for them. I'll probably pick the one with most votes, to ensure we can fill the raft and keep the cost down.

Whether folks come for the day or the weekend is up to them and we can discuss that a bit later.

30-01-08, 02:49 PM
OK - I have edited the poll figures to reflect the fact that some folks voted the wrong way. You only get one chance to vote, so if you find you can come on a date you did not vote for, post it up and I'll try to massage the figures.... :smt077

(NB I have no preference in this)

Booked for 1.30 on 27th April. There is a booking thread here (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=106199), post there if you want to come.

I have PM'd everyone who expressed an interest and they are on the provisional list. Apologies to anyone who I missed.

Luckypants
10-03-08, 01:56 PM
Just to be sure everyone is aware...... there is a requirement to be able to swim at least 25M. See here (http://www.goliathres.com/v4/res_website.asp?page=directory&supplierCode=ukr100&cat1=3) for info. There is more on the T&Cs there to. Raft is paid for, so you owe me money!:money:

After all the excited chatter about this, after I booked it several folks have dropped out. Now I'm in the hole for the cost of trip currently and have no issues with the folks attending, I know they'll pay up - but I really need some others to join the trip.

Date is 27th April, so if you interested, let me know and I'll add you to the list.

I went a month or so back and I can't swim! (although can do doggie paddle when really put under pressure ) The guides didn't tell me to get back on the bus, everything went swellingly and I really enjoyed myself.

I'd love to go again, is there still room? and how much will it be?

P.S. I remember your daughter Luckypants and see her about a lot, tis a small world! :)

cost is a bit variable because the price is per raft. If we fill it, cost will be around 45-50 quid.

Luckypants
04-04-08, 10:03 AM
UPDATE :- Rafting Centre has just given us a BIG discount on the cost of the trip. If the price was putting you off, then the new price will be ?31 per head if 6 go in the raft.

Drew Carey
04-04-08, 10:17 AM
Mike how many you got spare? If there are 2, then stick me and Lilly down. We were originally put off by the price due to the distance we would go also, but now, its worth it.

6 paddling and max of 7. The 'spare' sits in the centre of the raft. We will get 4 runs though, so can swap about.

There is max 7 in a raft. Only the seven booked on the raft can ride it. If you drop out then there is one spare seat. I can drop off to and take my kayak, so there would be two seats. Would rather be in the raft myself, it's where the fun will be.
