View Full Version : TVSF rideout...Sunday 10 Feb.

Obviously depending on the weather, i was wondering who is available for a hoon.
No fixed plans on day/destination yet, but i was thinking of something a bit further afield than the usual Aylesbury/Oxford run.
Perhaps into Surrey(Box Hill) and maybe further south into Sussex.
Is it too early for a run to Brighton? Maybe.......
So who is up for it and would you prefer Saturday or Sunday?
It would be nice to see some of the people who have not made many(or indeed any) of the rideouts so far:
Knightrider
Scifibloke
Stevehaskew
Ogden(:p)
Ape
....and of course any others!
The more the merrier, usual sausage factory rules apply....limited mirror checks, stragglers will be lost forever.
UPDATE:
Just for those who don't wish to sift through the thread to find out the main details.
Meet@ Shire Horse Maidenhead. We aim to depart by 10:45 so please be there by then, or contact someone to let them know you're late. Come freshly fueled, although we may stop on route anyway.
Maidenhead>Ascot>Woking>Guildford>Horsham>Brighton. Lots of twisties in between!
Oooh, that sounds tempting. Think we've got relative visiting duties on Saturday and bike show on Sunday though :-(

Not me I'm afraid. Not going on any ride out when the Dullsville is my only bike to use. Plus finger will have only been off for 4 days. Hmmm painful I think.

hmmm. it's still too cold to bring my bike out of hibernation I think.

not wanting to p*ss on anyones parade, but I think the weather for this weekend is lookin pretty dia! snow etc is forcast.
On the other hand I would be up for a ride out. Either day would be fine I think. Would be nice to go for another TVSF jaunt.
I do have a suggestion for a ride:
A44 from Oxford to Worcester
A422 to Stratford-upon-avon
Head south on the Banbury Rd back towards Oxford
Not so good for you southern folk but some very nice roads

Indeed. It's a route I do quite often on my own - we can even stop of at me moms for a cuppa half way - I'm sure they won't mind a bunch of bikers invading the farm! Maybe best to save for the warmer weather, and some of the smaller roads have a load of crap on them at the mo because of the recent flooding.
I'll keep it in mind for spring / summer then

Obviously depending on the weather, i was wondering who is available for a hoon.
Weather.com says between 1 and 6 Celsius. Sod that for a game of soldiers. I'll be in bed.
I think one handed riding is not advised. I actually have a valid excuse this time.

Update
In the case of poor weather (either really cold/icy/wet) then it is my intention to bump the rideout until the next weekend (9/10 Feb). Hopefully the weather might improve.
This might also allow some of the people who can't make 2/3 to attend.
Watch this space......
If it get's postponed I'll change the date and leave it stickied

UPDATE
As the weather forecast has not improved and we look set for highs of 2C tomorrow('feels like' -4C) and slightly improved Sunday weather(highs of 4C feels like -1C), i am bumping this rideout until the following weekend 9/10 Feb.
Whilst the weather might have been passable for a short blast, a rideout of any distance would certainly lead to frostbite!
Hopefully this is just a cold snap and the temperature will get up into double figures, in the near future. On a positive note, all of those who couldn't make this weekend because of the London bike show/work/family commitments, now have no excuse not to make the 9/10!

Well i'll be about, so 'm in for either day.
On a slightly different note, went out and rode for 150 miles anyway today just cos i was bored. I can confirm that it is cold! Fortunatly my thermals did the job, but my fingers were a tad cold after about 70 miles, so much so i had to buy a coffee so i could hold the cup and warm them up! Still, the roads were actually really good today, pleanty of grip again. I sometimes forget that all this rain cleans them - nice.
I am looking at heated gloves on fleabay -MrApe, what brand are yours? do thay have much in the way of prot4ection in the event of a crash? They all seem to be liek my Panthans and be warm but not particularly well armored.

I have Gerbing Signature gloves. Are they warm :?: Oh yes. Very. Protection :?: I suggest falling off not to be a good idea. The electrical elements are life time guaranteed. I don't think any other manufacturer offers this.

Hey the more the merrier. We like to do things last minute round here. Timings yet to be confirmed which probably means will be decided late on Saturday night.
As for being the straggler, wouldn't be so sure of that if I do end up going. I'll be riding my winter hack Honda Deauville. That is the slowest thing in history.
Oh and see here (http://forums.sv650.org/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-2-19&e=89&c=1) for details of the Shire.

We might be using some of that route....it seems obligatory to take in Pirbright at some stage. We're going to go south-ish from Maidenhead, so i want to try and avoid the motorway/dual carriageway we ended up doing last time. I have a route in mind(some that i have not ridden!) and i intend on riding it on Friday with Tony. Then i can fine tune/publish Friday night.

Update
This rideout will take place on Sunday. (sorry Ian...it must seem like we're trying to avoid you! Hopefully you can still join us.)
We will meet at the Shire Horse, in Maidenhead @10:30. Ideally people will arrive punctually, but i'm not one to talk. Having checked numbers/introductions hopefully we will get away @10:45.
As per usual, please arrive fully fueled. There is a garage just up the road towards Reading. I assume my bike will have one of the worst fuel economies, so pit stops will be determined by pre-arranged stops.
With the rideout getting larger in numbers, i would appreciate some input on whether mirror checks will be adequate, or whether people would prefer markers.
To get around the problem, i was thinking of having a number of 'regroup' locations every 20 miles or so, where we would wait for any stragglers. Just a few points on the map, so people know where to head for. That would give the smokers a chance to kill themselves, should they so desire.
Further updates to follow.

Great, I'll see you all at 10.30 then.
I have previous arrangements in the afternoon, so won't ride with you for the length of the ride, but will come and say my hellos.
My mountain biking club have a "keep an eye on the person" behind you routine. If everyone complies, then it normally works fine (which is rare!)
See you Sunday.
Markers are really only good for a good number of people attending. Otherwise you'll end up having to stop on every other corner or junction. Mirror checking is the key.
The use of indicators and mirrors should do just fine. If you get to a junction that requires a deviation of direction, indicate and check your mirrors, when you see the bike behind indicate you can assume they are aware of the turn. Once around the turn double check to ensure they have indeed taken the correct turn. A final check to make sure they have cancelled their indicator and away you go again.

There is a possibility that I will be bringing the legendary PJ and Stu to this! We are meeting up the night before to dicuss our Europe tour, and then they have to head back to London, so I suggested we all swing past this. So you can all marvel in the might of PJ! His current project is to take an old gpz900 that he got given for free, and he has just taken the fairings off it and stuck clip-ons on it instead of the handlebars. I told him it would all be crap unless he turns it into a mad-max style bike and welds chains and spikes onto it.
