View Full Version : February Photo Comp
Last Entry is Midnight 24/02/08, then a 5 day Poll...
OK - February, not the most literal of themes, something you may have to get your heads around a bit to come up with something that isn't just another macro close-up. ;)
"It's a Small World."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/spazmutt/P1000514.jpg
Oh yeah - Panasonic DMC-FZ81. Just cropped in MS Paint, nothing else.
I've highlighted the theme of the month for you. Had to read it twice myself to get it.

Hey - it was a small title. ;)

Not 100% sure what you’re after, but presume from what you’ve said something more creative than just plain macro stuff.
To that end here’s one I did which gives an unusual effect.

A plain glass of water standing on a picture of a globe with a little fork oil (red)floating on the surface and stirred.
Cannon 350d standard kit lens, image round cropped but otherwise as shot.
That's awesome Mark.
Yeah - I didn't want to over explain it - just let's folks get creative with something that illustrates, well, that it can be a small world, just depends on your viewpoint...
... or take a goldfish - their world is the size of thier tank...
... or emailing Australia and getting a reply within seconds...
... stuff.
Mine was a stone marble (granite I think) that I have that I've always thought looked like some far off moon like Titan or something - just messed around getting a cold, numb arm a couple of days ago when the sun finally came out.
Cool photo for sure.

+1 indeed nice one Mark, now I need to get creative.

taken today with a Panasonic dmc-fx100, photoshoped layered the earth and moon on and cropped.
Is it not part of the rules for no enhancements :?: Seems rather unfair to anyone that does not possess those editing skills but can take a good photograph.

funnily enough my first thought was an exploded rain drop from a rainy day scene with a glode in it, but it couldn't be done with just the camrea, still learning this photographic thing so concentrating on the shot it self, photoshops tricks and manipulation are something I'll play with down the line although I've got most of the basics.
Cheers Mark.

Humm.. don't know .
Few simple rules...
One entry per person per month
The winner of the competition will suggest the subject for the following month.
The winner cannot enter the following month, but they should provide a photo in the opening post to set the standard if they want to.
"Photoshoped" images: ALL images in the scene have to be your own work, putting a decent picture onto a background that you didn't take isn't exactly fair.
If you do photoshop the picture please mention it when you post it. Not that there is anything wrong with editing them, it just will allow people to make their on decisions about voting.
I can't take a photo of the earth so took the photo of the earth and moon from a book. if it not allowed I'll with draw it and do another.

I wouldn't worry about it, as was seen last month, K's bear was hardly "wildlife" was it :smt082 (although it did bring a smile) it would seem the "rules" are somewhat flexable to an extent.
But I don't (and could be wrong here) think I've seem anything so overtly Photoshopped so far :smt102
Cheers Mark.
Ooooh - I seem to have set a bit of a toughie.
As long as the photo of the photo of the earth (if used blah blah blah) has been taken by the poster, and they let folks know how the end result was achieved that I see no probs. People can then vote whilst in possession of all the information - if you get my drift.
It may mean that this time a very brief explaination may need to be attached to each shot when Richie complies the 'Voting Thread' - but I see no harm in that.
I'm glad I may be causing a little flexing of creative muscles though.
Edit:
This is also a theme I have had bumbling round my head for a while, so am interested if any of the ideas I've toyed with are similarly thought of by those way more experienced with photography than me. After all, I only normally use the thing to take marketing photos of my work.

Nah, I'm just a trouble maker.

I think its a good subject, especially as I'm racking my brains for ideas. Somel lateral thinking or some creative ideas are whats needed and I'm all out of them at the mo.
I think I might have a crack at this one but am in thr same boat as fizz...not too sure what to do...

Is that photo of the Moon taken on 11/11/06 @ 23:11:48 ? as I've seen that one before. ;-)

Yeah - which is why I originally said "the photo of the photo of the Earth" - only that naughty Mr Amarko was cutting words out. ;):p
I've edited my entry to make it less photoshopped... if thats possible.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel the need for a hand grenade ?
I think a tank would be the more enjoyable option.
Or Monster Truck - you could bounce over them a few times then, treble the fun! ;)

Picture taken from a ride into wales last weekend, just some random scenery that converted well.
PS I apologise for the horrible photochopping to hide (actually just smudge) the line between the two, I suck at photoshop (clearly :))

If you're one of our pet fish... My 300 litre, Freshwater tropical tank. It is like a mini ecosystem in there, its a bit like ours, fish pollute their own environment, when they wee or poo it breaks down into amonia, to much amonia without the right bacteria in the filter to convert it into nitrate then nitrate which is less harmful then the fish die. A bit like us humans and the way we pollute our own world woudlnt you say.
Taken with my Nikon D40 DSLR with 17-55mm Kit Lens.
