Curvy SV 1st service (since buying)

I bought an 02 SV650s in July (1st bike after passing my DAS test). The bike was in cracking condition, had only done 16k miles and I got it for a v. good price.

My problem is that I'm not sure what sort of servicing is required on the bike now that I've had it for 6 months (4000 miles).The bike had its 15k service back in July 2006 and as far as I can see its been almost unused since then up until I bought it. Since buying it I've had to replace both tyres and have fitted some heated grips. I've also tried changing the oil but had a few probs here (sump bolt stuck solid so I ended up just topping up the oil without removing the old stuff.

What sort of servicing should I be looking for? I reckon I could inspect and replace the brake pads myself (reckon at least the back ones need replacing so will do them all in one go). I'm planning some long trips in the Easter and Summer holidays and so would prefer to err on the side of caution and get as much looked at (or even replaced) as possible. I reckon I should get the chain and sprocket replaced, new oil and filter, new spark plugs and new air filter.

How much do you reckon I would be looking at to get this work done? Is there anything else I should be thinking about? Cheers!

If I recall correctly, the 15k is a biggie including valve clearances checking anf adjusting. I think the air filter is also changed at that time too, along with the oil and filter and plugs, along with a number of checks including (I think) greasing the swingarm bearings....although I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can confirm...

Theres a lot to be said to doing it yourself - if it was my bike, having done 4k, I would at least do the oil and filter - I think the intervals are 4-4.5k, so its about time. You can download the manuals off here.

With regards the sump plug, if you can't get it free, maybe a local mechanic can loosen it, or just change the oil and filter for you? The reason I say is it happened on my car a few months ago - couldnt get the thing shifted, and I had bought new oil and filter ready to do it myself....local village mechanic got it on the ramp, changed the oil and filter for the princly sum of 8 quid!! Not worth getting your hands dirty and disposing of the old oil at that price...
