Hello Folks,

I have just joined your group in more ways than one. First of all, I have just bought my first SV650s K4, which is also my first real bike.

Also I have just joined your group and I would like to say hi to every one and introduce myself. :)

My name is Jayne and I am a bit of an old bird, having spent too many years sat on the tiny seat pads of various blokes bikes, I decided it was time I got my own real bike.

I saw the SV in my local bike shop and I fell in love with it immediately. Well, what is there not to love? So having geared my self up, all I have to do now is pass my test and then I can take my baby for a spin.

What this means is that I am something of a newbi, so please be patient and don't laugh too hard if I ask stupid questions.

Best wishes,
Jayne
xXx :sunny:

Hello Jane, where abouts in the south west are you from? SV owners are few this time of year, we hibernate due to the weather so good to see another. Good choice of bike aswell :riding:

Yeah, and every time I see something about a SW rideout and get excited it always ends up being in Wales. You lot should have your own section to avoid my disappointment :(

On another note, welcome Jayne! If you turn out to be anywhere near me then give me a shout if you need anyone to ride with.

Hi all,

I am based in Plymouth, but do move about a fair bit. I hope to pass my test in the next couple of weeks so I can take my new bike for a ride out.

You will spot me, I am the one in pink and black, wobbling down the A38 at 25 MPH!:D

Thank you for your nice welcome, I hope to get to know you all well.

hello there new girl. Welcome to the madness. If you ignore most of the blathering and needless willy waving that goes on here you will be able to find a whole bunch of friendly and sometimes even usefull people on here! Enjoy your bike and revel in the fact that you have a superior pointy!

Er...
Pointy? Does this relate to the shape of the front end? The screen and so on? :smt024

My one is all silver and is gorgeous. It is second hand, but has only done 6000 miles. It has a carbon hugger and a rear end tidy thingy fitted by the previous owner, along with a tinted screen.

I fell in love with it because it was so shiny and it fitted me like it was made for me. I can assure you that I am not called Phil though, although I guess it could be short for Philipa... :albino:

By the way, I know about the posh bits because the nice man in the bike shop gave a bag full of "spare bits" which was a little unexpected. Any body need a black plastic thing that hangs off the back or a colourless screen? I don't have the space for these bits! :smt077

pointy refers to the shape. The newer ones like yours have a pointier shape to the older ones which are referred to as curvy's. There is an ongoing tongue in cheek debate over which is best.

:laughat:I am so mad keen on my new bike that I even bought a Haynes manual for it, so if it goes wrong I can take it to bits and make it better.

I am a little bit handy with a spanner, my best friend at Uni made me help him build his streetfighter. We did an engine build in the kitchen sink of his student house. The best part of it, we were reading Environmental Science! :flower: We were hated when we turned up in college with his super loud exhaust and heavy fuel usage...

I am based in Plymouth

I'm about 5-10 mins off the Bovey Tracey A38 turn off, so not far if you do want a rideout.

As far as roads go and once you've got the basics down pat, I can recommend heading north out of Plymouth across the moors to Tavi, and fancy seeing what the twisties are all about. From there, North Devon is your oyster and plenty of quiet roads to enjoy.

Lol that's ace, I was in uni halls last year and they really didn't like it when I was rebuilding my mates FZR in the kitchen. Apparently 2 gallon of petrol next to the cooker and the ashtray is a fire hazard??? Poofs.

As for environmental sciences, there's loads of hippy muppets at leeds uni studying that, always fun when I'm leaving at the same time as them hehe

Welcome Jayne.

One of my housemates is currently working towards her PhD in an environmental science discipline, she owns a ZX-9R, an FZ400 rat-bike and a car. Her boyfriend has a Bandit 1200 that is lucky to manage 25mpg on a good day, an MZ150 that smokes like an early morning picket line and a 2.5 litre Vectra.

What ho folks,

So today I have learned that Copper is faster, curvy is better and not many "birds" can handle a spanner... Thank you all for your kind welcome, I feel so special. :D

Well I am sorry to have to tell you all, that my Silver SV is the best bike in the world ever! :smt021

Although sadly it is currently in a garage with a SORN ticket until I pass my test. I have more training next week during Half term (I work in a school) so hopefully that will give me an idea of how far I have to go to get my full license.

Riding my Bike for the first time is something I am dreaming of, quite literally. I can't wait.

So what are SV's like to ride? I have only ever been on Jap in-line fours as a pillion and I love the feeling of acceleration, it is simply wonderful. Of course I fully intend to stick to the speed limit at all times and I will never ride in sporty or aggressive way; and monkeys will crawl out of my bottom!

My first SV was a silver pointy, I like the colour. There are a few 'ladies' I know who are handy with a set of spanners, my good friend catherine helps out spannering the ZX10R race bike I look after and I'm teaching my ex, Tori, all I can so she can spanner her own RD350LC race bike and her SV650.

SVs accelerate quite well for their size, the power delivery is quite direct and as with any V-twin they have good low to mid range grunt.

You need to watch a bit of "Waynes World" again - the phrase is "And monkeys might fly out of my butt" :D

Hey you all,

interesting to read just how many of you are in my locality, is it one of you who rides past me every morning on a blue curvy in the Laira Narrows as I walk to work in the school?

I have another bike lesson this weekend with Surepass and I am so excited, I am hoping that my big bike lessons start this week and will last up to my test. I reallllllllllllllllllllllllly want my bike. It is currently being stored for me in Damerelles in Mutley until I pass my test. No Naughty trips for me.. :smt018

Anyway, if anyone sees me about, make sure that you wave. I am the tall tart with the walking stick and the Goth Boyfriend. The poor sweet love is going on the back of Silvie (my bikes name!) when I pass my test. Can you feel his terror? :smt099

Good luck with the lessons, I went with 1st class as they were recommended by everyone I knew who'd been there, they got me through my test first time so can't be bad!

Laira narrows is great for listening to the bike pop and bang on the overrun!
