As above.. i really want to adopt a dog.. not just any dog i really love problem dogs.. i have had lurchers in the past all adopted but then the EX took them with her.. it was only right because she had the land to keep all 6 of them, but i think its time to get one of my own now, after reading K's post about her best friend it jumpstarted my heart again lol,
this is my favorite type..

i just need to get a decent bit of land going.. an acre should cover it but costs loads lol,

Good for you! So many dogs out there that need new homes :(

We're fostering a 6 month old Alaskan Malamute puppy at the moment for the Breed rescue. She adorable, but has a problem with her legs that means she's a bit unsteady on her feet, and she rolls her feet over, so wears her nails away. She's a little sweetie though, and soo confident :D

The pic is of her playing with Lupo, our Malamute. She's the one at the front :P

why don't you try contacting 'Tia greyhound sanctuary' if you like them sort of dogs, they have far too many dogs of the lurcher/greyhound/deerhound variety looking for good homes, sad really. Alternatively you could adopt mine( i'm joking obviously) but after last nights escapades my bank balance is somewhat short of cash.I have a dominance battle at the moment and I had to take a trip to the vets this morning to mend some badly bitten ears on both my dogs, naughty naughty girly always starts first and wont' back down.

+1 about the unwanted dogs. And best of luck finding the land, you could always just get friendly with a farmer and use a field or two :)

Mia was born with "something" wrong with her legs and her co-ordination. (Since we're just fostering her we don't get told exactly what the vet said) When she walks she has a tendency to lift her front legs to high and to the side, and when she puts her feet down she scuffs them and rolls them over, so she wears away at her pads and claws in a funny way. When she came into rescue she had no claws at all. She also does that same thing with her back legs. When she was born her mother tried to kill her virtually immediately :( and the dog she lived with in her first home also bullied her, so she was a little timid when she first came in. Not that you'd know it now, I confidently predict that while I'm typeing this she's at home bossing Lupo about ;)

It doesn't really affect her too much. She can still run around and play just fine. Just means on long walks she has to wear booties to protect her feet. She also struggles with laminate flooring (moreso than other dogs), but she's getting better and stronger every day.

Cheers, I shall have a bit of a read up on that. Good to know it doesn't affect her too much, it's amazing how adaptable dogs can be :D

Don't want to upset anyone on purpose, but perhaps mummy knew best? Nature doing it's thing and all that.

However, now she she is here and healthy apart from her walking problems I do hope she finds a home and has a happy life. She is a little cutie. I already have two dogs, so no room at this inn.

We have spoken to several breeders that we know, and to be honest, they have all mentioned that they probably would have had her PTS. It sounds harsh, but it's only luck that she has the mobility she does, it could have been much worse quite easily. But, like you say, she's here, and she has a bunch of dedicated people trying to find the right home for her. So hopefully she's going to have a long and happy life.

Always a better move to adopt one than to marry one.;)

Yeah - harsh sounding, but when you consider the breed, one that has the urge to pull and run and run and run so strongly - when that is weighed against her potential shortcoming it could so easily have lead to a very unhappy and disturbed dog. The desire to do the one thing her body won't let her, yet without the cognative function to understand why.
