I've downloaded and started using Opera instead of IE. Cheers Zig, much better than Firefox.

However, something has stopped working. When I clicked on web links in emails it loaded Opera. But all of a sudden it has started opening IE again. What do I need to do so it uses Opera as standard again :?:

Without reading your post I can tell you the answer to all opera-related problems.

It was the fat bird with the dustbin-lid bra. It always is in Opera...

Start Menu -> Set Program Access and Defaults.

In there you can tell it the default browser to use.

Or if you're using Vista...

Start Menu> Default Programs> Set your default programs
Choose Opera in the list, then choose "set this program as default".

why is opera better than ie7 or ie6 ?
or should I go sit in a corner some where?

I'm open to any ideas...

I tried that but still when clicking on links IE opens and not opera

Depending on what version you are using, somewhere in the preferences pane (most likely under the advanced tab) you should find a check box to force opera to see if it is the default browser on startup. Check that box, close opera (and IE if it's open) then re-open opera.

No idea if this will do the trick, IE has a nasty habit of jumping up and down shouting, "Me! Me! Me!" so it can be a bit of a pain to stop it butting in to start with.

It's a lot smoother and has many extra features that can be very useful.

However, if you want something simple, without loads of features that you don't need, and the option to download only the add-ons that you want, then FireFox is much better. However if you try downloading a million and one add-ons for it, it'll end up slower then IE.
