Ouch! You have my sympathy having fallen off a large horse a few years ago, come to think of it I think it hurt more than coming off the bike last year - although I had a better scar from the bike!! ;)

GWS, fell off my mountain bike a few times in the snow at the weekend and that hurt, falling from a horse is a fair height to fall from.

Were you jumping, the horse spook, or just one of those random falls?

yup...my friends horse is almost 17 hands so a loooong way down and more time to think "oh **** this is gonna really hurt!

I dont ride very often these days but have ridden her quite a few times before...and I am used to her little quirks but not sure what happened really - I was schooling in the arena - transition from canter down to trot, she suddenly stuck her head in the air and started leaping about - not bucking - more of a sort of Zebedee thing which she does do occasionally - I tried to push her through it which normally resolves it but she suddenly shot sideways while I was up in the air already and I "went out the window" :(

Ouch!!! Glad to hear nothing's broken especially from that height

I want to take up riding again, thinking of going on a hack when the weather's warmer. Only ever had the one lesson though and that was a fair while ago. They put me on 16.2 called Gus, he was absolutely lovely but seemed a giant to an 11 year old! Wish lessons weren't so dear these days, I'd love to do it more

At least I wasn't there to vido it happening!

They've now OK'd me to ride at Uni, but my session is the first one so once I've untacked I make it back round to the school and video everyone else. Beforehand I was videoing all the sessions, so at least those on mine now get let off...

... though I'm definately going to have enough material to put together my own 'gag' reel' for the end of the year!

17 hands is slightly on the big side, no wonder you're feeling a bit the worse for wear:(

I've fallen off horses and fallen with horses more times than I care to remember. Right collarbone broken three times, left collarbone broken twice, coccyx broken once:rolleyes:

Still love the brutes though:D

I can actually honestly say I've only even come off once - but I was about 9 and sneakily nipping over the fence to ride a young chestnut over the other side of the village from my house ...

... so it was unbroken and I had neither saddle or bridle... but it was fine until some rabbit bolted out of a hedge under his feet.
