By the way - I can highly recommend Pet Plan if you are looking for insurance. My old boy never had much wrong other than the early onset of mild arthritis. Five years of continuous medication that saw him right as rain... five years of speedily settled claims, never a quibble.
Tesco's, Direct Line etc generally have a limit on the amount that can be claimed for any single 'issue' - so if you are unlucky enough to have a continuous problem you can rapidly reach that limit. Pet Plan is 'Cover for life' as they call it - there is a limit, but it re-sets each year.

Steer well clear of the more than pet insurance, we had real problems trying to claim for an op to cure Jaspers rear end problems. They claimed it was an existing condition that we knew about when we took out the insurance. Only problem was more than were the insurers we had, and it worked out cheaper to take out a new policy than renew the existing one. So that is what we did. Didn't realise that any existing condition would no longer be covered even though it was the same insurer.

Now we have no insurance as such, but a scheme the vet operates himself. Why pay an insurer to make money out of you, at least going to the vet directly any profits from the scheme benefit the practice.

On topic - Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Off topic - I had no problem at all with More Than pet cover. One of my two moggies went awol for 3 months, and when she was found, she needed £3.5k of treatment. More Than paid up without quibble.

Oh yeah, I'm with Tesco. My dog developed a condition where her knee caps on her rear legs weren't held in place correctly (luxating patella), Tesco paid up for both to be done - about ?4500 worth of op's, no questions asked.

I was chatting in the vets a while ago to a lady who had a Clumber Spaniel (think a really mini version of a St. Bernard!) who suffered from Hip Dysplasia - common with that breed - she had an extensive op on one hip... Tesco's paid out no trouble...

... but when she had to have a similar op on the other hip they said no to the claim as it took her over her 'single claim limit'. Even though it was the other hip, 2 years later than the first op. and had actually shown initial signs that it was fine; they took at the same problem and so refused the claim, leavin the owner a few grand out of pocket.

But I guess it's like most insurance things - six of one and half a dozen of the other regardless of who you go with. just read the small print is all I s'pose.

It is indeed. 55GBP for my two. They are old and so a high risk. Thinking of just saving that money to cover any future bills as it is so much. Cannot get other insurance cos they both over 8/9 (depends on insurer) or those that will take em on are same price as current insurer. Pooh!

About to make a claim for the "puppy's" (he is 10 next month ) dodgy knee that he had done a while ago, this will decide whether to keep the insurance or not.

Thanks for that, I didn't know about fixed limit and probably would not have noticed.
The Wife is going to sort the insurance out soon.
Meg's at the vets tomorrow to get wormed, chipped, jabbed and a general 1st service.
She seems to have settled in alright already, although a bit bonkers,
Matilda is coming round now, but still will not let Meg anywhere near her feet

Ahh - Spider has also just discovered the delights of socks and now attempts to pull them off your feet at every given opportunity.
But then he first discovered them by managing to 'climb' up to the top of my 3' high wicker wash basket! How the hell he got up there I don't know, but I had to come to the rescue when a plaintive little squeak told me he'd got stuck.:p

I highly recommend M+S pet insurance. Can have it with NO excess and has lifetime cover for any illness unlike most companies that only pay out for first 12 months.

Bob likes socks also, tis why my son has lots of odd ones, they always end up in Bobs bed with the toes chewed off. Ahhhh doggies they're soooooo adorable

I am in the process of arranging Spider's insurance and thought I'd check this out - cos no excess sounds good...

... too good - though it doesn't mention it at all within the online quote where it shows the amount covered for illness, holiday cancellation etc... take a look at the policy booklet through the PDF link at the bottom and there it is - Dogs, Premium cover = excess £70 if under 9yrs old - £70 + 20% over 9yrs, Standard cover = £90 if under 0yrs - £90 + 20% of over 9yrs.

If you already have an existing policy - it may be they have just revised their new ones - but it's something to check - espescially on renewal.

Petplan also operate a percentage loading to theri excess - but it's 10% at 10+yrs and 20% at 12+yrs. Set excess amount is £80.
