View Full Version : Colour confusion!

I recently purchased a '99 SV650 on a T plate. It is on the regestration document as a SY650 SY although from what I've seen usually a '99 is a SX. Unfortunately shortly after taking ownership the front brake seized up and the bike went down (typical). I have been purchaisng all the parts required and have virtually got them all now.

One of the parts required was the RHS upper fairing. I know the colour was candy blue (one of them) and from what I was told for a '99 bike, probably the lighter one. I phoned the local dealer and was told that it was Y7E Candy Jay Blue (I believe the lighter one).

I then proceeded to get one of ebay (the lighter one from a '99 bike) and surprise surprise it was the wrong colour. Does anyone know if the darker colour Candy blue was used on '99 models and if '99 models were SY.

I just want to try to confirm the correct colour to save getting the wrong one once again.

The sooner I get the bike back together and on the road, the better.

Any info would be much appreciated (sorry for the essay).

Thanks

Gavin

if it's an SY then the colour is likely to be candy grand blue

candy jay blue was used on the SX

yours may be an early registration so although it's on a T plate it still may be a 2000 model

Also I should of said that it was form the frame number that the dealer told me that it was Candy Jay blue. I take it that it's possible that they just got it wrong.

They may have got it wrong. But if the log book says it's an SY i personally would go with that well that and the fact the candy jay is the wrong colour ;)

Could it be that the bike used to be jay blue but it's been changed sometime in it's life with some grand blue?

Thanks. I'll need to look out for another one then (probably better than trying to get this one resprayed). I'm pretty sure the bike is it's original colour but I suppose you never know. Here's hoping I can find one soon.
Thanks again for your help.

More than likely, my mates yellow curvy is in the log as red!

That's what i was beginning to think. I have been informed however that the colour code is on a small sticker under the tank. I checked it today and it is Candy Grand blue, so the dealer must of have just gone wrong somewhere. If only I knew that before I bought the fairing!
