A nice man from the insurance company called me this evening to offer me a cheque to repair my bike myself. I'd worked out it was going to cost me at least 1600 quid to simply buy the parts needed and have the fairings repaired. His first offer was a paltry 1100 notes minus my excess, so I gave him a run down of my figures and asked him to call back when he had a better offer, which he did.

I got what I needed from him, so the bike was stripped this evening and work has begun on rebuilding it.

It would be indiscreet of me to say, but a four figure clue that slaps you round the head like a wet trout is in my original post.

So many people take the first offer without question:smt068

Nice to hear it was sorted to your satisfaction relatively quickly. So, now you have the cheque winging its way towards the bank...

... how long will it take you to a) fix the bike?

Or b) buy yet another one? ;)

Umm...I bought a curvy SV this week, but the black thing stays.

The bike is mostly fixed already - R+G bung is on its way along with some of their lovely bar-ends and paddock stand cotton reels, rad is repaired, fairing bracket replaced, handlebar swopped and the little matter of the exhaust can was sorted in 10 minutes by gently tapping the bent band back in line after polishing the scuffs out. Tonight I fitted one of those replacement toe-pegs from www.fixer-peg.co.uk and I have to say they are great quality and cheap as chips compared to 49 quid for a new brake pedal.

You'll never be able to tell the bike has been dropped when it's finished. I'm just waiting on the cheque to arrive so I can buy brand new fairings. I'm not overkeen to splash out 600 quid on them now, only to find the insurance company start mucking me about and disputing the payment. Their cheque needs to be cleared through my account before I'll pay for them.

In fact, I dare say it'll look better when I've finished than it did when I bought it.
