She's the lady from Spooks!

Gene Hunt is the star of the programme - without him it would not be worth watching.

Top prog.

Not much on telly that I will make a point of watching but this is on the list.

I saw it, I'm glad they wrapped up Sam Tyler and told us his outcome. Looks good like the camo roll with Zippy and Geoffery. :)

Was a bit annoyed with her at the start with all the gibberish she was talking but that seems to have given way to the action that we were used to see in Life On Mars. Good format, doubt it will have a 90s one though, they should all be retired by then!

Really liked it. Clash and stranglers on the sound track tonight, so much happiness here. I do like the little twist in it to, where she wants to come back for her daughter. I know Sam had his girlfriend but the wrench away from your child is a nice touch.

Also loved tonights mini homage to the "A Team" with the various quotes and the gun battle which saw 100's of bullets fired with only one slight graze to a baddy the outcome. I was waiting for Gene Hunt to turn around and tell one of his oppo's to quite their jibba jabba, but they may have been going to far.

I wasn't entirely convinced either at the start but it did gave way to some great stuff as it went on. Really enjoyed Life On Mars - Jury still out on this one

"You in leather holding that gun gives me the horn!"

I loved that! We were rolling with laughter watching it, can't wait for next week, but only hope to God that they come up with a decent ending, unlike Life on Mars.

Nicely summed up there :)
I thought that whatserface with the stockings on was taking it a bit too far to still be dressed in them halfway thru the program ... but then it DOES certainly make for better telly that way :smt003
Big fan of Life on Mars ... and although Ashes to Ashes has some nice touches, I'm still undecided on it though too.

Gene Hunt: "My reputation precedes me"
He also wins the prize for corniest line in the entire show last night with that "Time to fire up the Quattro" :smt078 ... made me laugh though

It tickled me too, in fact it reminded me of a 70's/80's detective series in which all I can remember were the words
'shut it, you slag' in a gruff cockney accent

the sweeney maybe, summat like that

Initial impression - good, but not as good as Life On Mars. The WPC was quite cute, but way too wet for my taste.

Some great quotes from Gene though:

"I don't usually let prozzies into my office - unless I'm having a party"

On women coppers: "They should be a cross between Betty Turpin and the HMS Ark Royal"

To his female sidekick, DI Alex Drake: "If that skirt was any higher, I'd see what you had for breakfast"

"Fire up the Quattro! Take the seatbelt off! You're a police officer, not a bloody vicar."

In a room full of grey plastic: "It's like Tomorrow's World, innit?"

To a crook fixed in his gun-sight: "Today, my friend, your diary entry will read: took a prozzie hostage and was shot by three armed b*******s."

To a drug baron with a phone card: "Flash git."

His first words to Alex when she calls out his name… and then faints: "My reputation precedes me."

To his team: "If anyone laughs I will attach jump leads to their genitalia. The Special Branch are as nervous as a virgin in a brothel."

it must be a male thing. How come you can watch an programme and then recite lines from the show? I can watch a programme and have problems figuring out what the story line was far less what people actually said

Because I was sneaky and nicked those quotes from an article on the Daily Torygraph web site.

I've read at least two of those in the press and I missed the prog! Shame.

At least there's something worth watching for a change!

Loved all the quotes. I'm sure the list will grow and grow other the next 7 episodes and we'll see them quoted on these forums for the next year or more :)

You can watch / download it free and legally via:

I thought it was crap TBH.
Then again I though Life on Mars was overrated.

Keeley Hawes is rather lovely though.

I enjoyed it that was the only time my TV was on just to watch that! I missed the first one, but will try try watch it!

Yeah the one liners are ACE and the bit where they were stamping Alex's (the DI's bottom) that made me laugh, though I suspect I can't to go work on Tuesday and stamp people on the ass;)

I love music as well, I was born in 80's it makes me laugh when you look at people's hair and clothes, casue my parents and their mates dressed like that!

Then just paste the details into Youtube and away you go! I have even bought a wireless keyboard so the laptop can sit under the TV, streaming to the surround sound home cinema speakers!
Some evenings, we just play on Youtube, remembering our youth before it becomes too hazy!
