Thought I was looking at my bike for a moment but then noticed the can.

The Laughing Assassin

Ah yes, the can.... a local bike shop has a new Micron race can, no connector pipe or anything, just the can-said i can ave it for £60. Is it a good price, will it be ok on my bike (not for MOT's) and is it a big job to slip it on???

DoubleD
08-02-08, 11:01 AM
?60 sounds a far price for a new slip-on can, just get yourself a link pipe and your laughing, it will work fine and sound the business.

Fitting it will mean you will have to cut the standard can off, but not a big job, even I did it and I'm no good at anything.

i wont need to alter anything? what are these power commander things i've seen for Fuel injected bikes and will i need one?

DoubleD
08-02-08, 11:09 AM
nope won't need to alter anything, may be twist your wrist a bit more to heard that v-twin roar but wait till the roads are a bit better for that.

You won't need a power commander for the slip on can.

I think a couple of people on here might have one but it is a LOT of cash for the gain in power you get.

Hmmm, sounds like the very 1st thing i will have to do then :D
just need to locate a link pipe and off to B&Q for a hacksaw then

Why doesn't time go this slow when your on the nest??? :smt112

I would have pointed you in the direction of a few websites that can help with your "premature inoculation" problem, but I'd really rather NOT have those search results pop up (so to speak) on my client's proxy server ;-)

As for the can ... I have a Micron carbon slip-on can on ... but I didn't have to make any adjustments at all ... previous owner saw to that :) However, as there are no markings on my can (not for road use), I do have to swap cans come MOT time ... but it's a simple enough job ;-) (even for me) :D

Get yourself a couple of blades or get an angle grinder, it is SO much easier if you can get your hands on one.

Remember measure twice, cut once.

If you have a search on here loads on peeps have done it and there are lots on guides on were and how to cut.

Kate Moss

any sign of it yet?

I was tempted by an angle grinder but ended up using the precision junior hack saw.

Using an angle grinder is risky as you risk slipping and grinding something else, like a wing arm  you would also end up with a load of metal filing in various places to rust away.

Any MOT station should accept a can with no markings at all as long as it is not excessively loud. They are duty bound to fail any can with "not for road use" or similar, but an exhaust no longer has to be E or BS marked.

Stick a db killer in the end if it's loud and take it as is, it should pass.

Hacksaw will take you weeks, use a grinder.

I do have to swap cans come MOT time

Why don't you save yourself the trouble and just go to a proper MOT station?

covered 60 miles, had a bit of fun on the twisties and managed two gears on the back wheel, all at speeds that don't risk a ban and still able to give the throttle some without hitting warp speed
