View Full Version : Exhaust Help
I love my bike, but dislike the V-Twin sound it offers me.
I purchased a Yoshimura pipe, in hopes to change the baffled sound of your standard SV, to find no sound difference whatsoever.
I noticed there are baffles clear up to the head throughout the pipe, which is different than your typical exhaust system, but is there a way to get a sound similar to that of a gsxr exhaust, and not so deep? Thanks in advance.
And for the next wind up question...
Just in case this is not a wind up. If you want an inline 4 sound, get rid of the v-twin.
but is there a way to get a sound similar to that of a gsxr exhaust, and not so deep? Thanks in advance.
Yep.........................buy an inline 4:D
B*gger, beaten by the Ape!
I like my SV just fine.
Just trying to make it sound like a street bike, as opposed to a quieter Harley, lol.

Then make it a louder Harley, fit a stubby:smt077
You do realise the tone is a characteristic of the engine and not the exhaust right? #-o
Oh yes, having been the reason I mentioned the VTwin in the first place :)
I didnt think it was possible, but since this is my first time on here I thought I would ask. Thanks for your quick replies.
Feel free to lock.

You wont change the sound of a twin, its as others have said not possible.
I like the sound of a twin, its very distinctive and people will always turn round to look, which you dont always get on an IL4. But I like the sound of my GSXR to. I like them both but in different ways.
Yea I sometimes wish I had purchased a 750 gsxr, but am content with my SV

i was working by a busy road here the other day, heard a K6/7 GSXR (didn't catch the numbers on the side) and could hear him accelerating and braking all the way from where i was to a mini-roundabout followed by a long straight about 2 miles away, absolutely stunning noise for an IL4, he had an aftermarket stubby pipe on it but i've never heard one that loud before, and it wasn't all screaming volume, it had a lovely tone to it
the SV will scream, not as well as a 600, but it'll do it if you wring it's neck:D

I loved mine its a brilliant bike.
Give it a while let the twin sound get into your head, it has a way of working its magic on you and you'll grow to love it, just give it a little time.
haha i bought mine brand new in 06, when will this said sound work its magic? lol

it should have worked by now. You are not listening hard enough ;) :D
Do you still have the original muffler on yours? If so, no wonder it sounds pants:D
How can you not love this?

I have a Yoshimura Pipe on it.
Try ripping the airbox snorkel off. Thats where most of the noise you here while riding comes from
i seriously doubt it affects the sound much at all.

Mmmmmm you will be surprised, spend 10mins taking the terrible little 650 snorkel out, its about the size of a drinking straw (well not really).
Run it without one for a while (not too long or you may end up emptying twigs and bugs from the airbox) if u like it, pop in a Sv1000 one instead. The induction roar is nice :). Pop the tank up 10mm on risers if you want it even louder.
haha you all love the noise, while im trying to rid my bike of such a noise.
i guess i should have clarified that a bit.

Did you really not know the different sounds different engine configurations make :?:

the only way you're going to do this is to sell your bike and buy one you do like the sound of. Changing the end can wont make any difference to that fact that the can is still attached to a Vtwin.

Actually, to stuff the noise up totaly, buy
1- Earplugs
2- Refit Sandard can
Cant hear sod all then!

Could you not learn to love her? Buy her a full race system (my Arrow sounds lovely). Make some sweet machine love in the garage (with the windows open to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning). Then go out on a date "gunning down grannies" as it pops when you roll off the throttle. If you don't love her after that, then, sadly ,maybe it really is time to get a DIY divorce kit and consider an affair with a gixxer.
PS if you need something pornographic to remind you why you embarked on a relationship with a twin in the first place, watch (with your comp plugged into a good sound system) the Tuono 1000 R Factory video here: http://www.aprilia.com/download_video.asp?lin2=eng# This should awaken some latent v-twin emotions. I watch this on a rainy day to remind me of good summer times and v-twin love.
Norton peashooter would sound nice. Might look odd though
