View Full Version : MCN Scottish Motorcycle Show
Going this year, on the 8th. Just tried to book tickets this morning on the web (beat the queues) but cant seem to get the ticket selection up. Anyone else managed or had problems?

Aye found that its working now..
On another note, does anyone think that the no-show by Honda is a bit of a slap in the face to all those Scots/Northerners who would be interested in buying the bike? When you are one of the biggest bike manufacturers in the world, why pick & choose shows? Surely its not an issue of cost?
wasn't aware they weren't showing! who know the why and hwerefore of these companies! - maybe they can't do a jigsaw of a bike yet!

They didn't show last year either. That's why Two Wheels showroom was so busy.

I'll be going for sure, I like these shows... Most people seem to hate them but the format suits me just fine.
Yup me also Northy, just like going to the local bike showroom really, only on a large scale

I'm going to go, never been before.
Really looking forward to it.
I'm hoping to get a new leather jacket and possibly another helmet there. I've been led to believe there're some good deals to be had.
Two questions in this regard:
Do they have a full range of sizes, i.e. clothing for sloght people?
What day is best to go to get the best choice and price, if there is one?
Either day, its not like the NEC in that its quieter through the week as its only a weekend.
Honda werent down when I looked, however it looks like thats been updated now.
Im not particularly after anything (set of indys maybe and maybe a new set of leather bottoms if theres anything which catches my eye) but mainly just going for the day out.

Its unlikely I'm gonna make this one, suffering from lack of funds syndrome and I think there would be more point when I have a bike again tbh...
independentphoto: you have pm.
i am going to wait to see what day it snows before buying tickets.

Is the parking a bit of a shocker there then? There's now a group of 5 of us going, but I could quite easily take the bike & let the rest tag in a car...
Also, what a shocker I'm having trying to get reasonably priced Hotel rooms for Saturday night now!!

Never had a problem parking with the car, (he says, sitting in the passenger seat gawking at some shiney bike brochure on the way out...... .
£5 parking if memory serves.......
:)
parking was ok it was the huge queues to get out of the place that were a nightmare

Getting away is usually a bit slow... I outran Loader along the access road, him in his car, me on crutches
Another option is to get a bus to the airport, it's easy walking distance from there.
Was thinking about picking up a set of leather pants, but worried the full zip might not be compatible when I get them home with my jacket...

I was there early last year, got parked up and in quite quickly. Took about 20 mins to get back out so was not too bad.. hope it's the same this year.

Heh, if you've ever parked at the Barrowlands in Glasgow you'll probably have met Jim the junkie car watcher... £1 to watch your car, you know the deal. But one time, we paid our car tax, went and watched the band (Slipknot, it was) and found the car had got broken into. What about our £1 worth of protection? Well, next time we parked there, there he is, £1 to watch your car. My mate graham says "Didn't do us much good last time"- "Sorry mate, I can't watch them all the time, I'll give you tonight free" :smt101

Oh. Cheers for that Marius & Andy. I've booked us both tickets for SUNDAY, but if you're going tomorrow, we could swing past yours on Sunday - that is if you're not going back again on Sunday too as has been known. Minimotos perhaps? :D

I went today, it was OK. We got poured on, mind, but that's OK since the outside stuff is really unimpressive this year (unless I missed a bit). Same old same old, one of the halls seemed half empty but the manufacturers stands were pretty good if that's what you like, it's better spaced out than previous years. Quite good for shopping, crazy bargains on Oxtar boots just now because of the brand being changed, I got a nice pair of Wolf trousers, some other bits and bobs... I got the feeling it's a wee bit in decline though, it was busy in the morning but in the afternoon it really dropped off.

Oh aye, if you're meeting up tomorrow it'd make more sense to meet at the Bandit and SV Owner's Club stall, which is in the in-betweeny hall where the food is. They actually have an SV on display for once, instead of the usual 4 Bandits they always take to everything

I was going to go today but it was raining! :( so i will be going tomorrow on the bike with a mate on a BRIGHT YELLOW triumph 600tt :)

It won't be bright yellow once he gets out of the car park  Stewart's bike had never seen dirt before, poor thing.
PS beware of the MCE Insurance stall with its secret weapon, bosoms.

Aye but you need the brains - i bet none of them have a bike licence! I've got both!:smt023
I think it tailed off because everyone went off to watch the rugby. Still doesnt detract from the fact that its been going downhill for about 3 years now. The Classics have been moved to a bigger area, the bigger manufacturers are bringing just trailers to show their bikes off and there arent enough quality clothing manufacturers selling top stuff. There was a lot of stuff which is obviously the cheap end of the market, and you usually get what you pay for.
I went looking for new bottoms for my 2 piece however couldnt get anything to fit. In the end only got a set of indys.

Not long back after a visit to Northwind and a place for dinner:D. We both had a real good day and it was nice to meet ClaireBear and her OH as well as the Bluflame clan.
Managed to pick up a few bits 'n' bobs as well as the usual nosey and sit on some hardwear. We also had a few offers of extended tests too, but isn't it funny that those things happen when you're eyeing up the more expensive stuff? I think it would be rude to refuse.....;)
Cheers,

Spotted you guys leaving the car park then in that case, I thought the TT was a mate of mine but obviously not (seeing as I was pointing out your SV to my pals in a sort of, "no - THAT's what my bike looks like..." type of way).

Well the Flame family went yesterday and had a good time.
The wee man got a new jacket and a balaclava. I got a pair of gloves.
The wee man particularily enjoyed the stunts outside and the scantily clad girls. (Apart from one woman [who looked like she was in her fifties] sitting on a bike letting it all hang out  We had just had cheesburgers too. !!)
I must say that old age is getting to me. I liked the look of the Bandit 1250GT complete with panniers and sat nav. I also like what they have done with the GSX650F.
All in all a fun day. Started getting really busy mid afternoon so disappeared back home.

There was a tall dark haired lass giving out leaflets for one of the insurance companys that I swear was going to get a restraining order put onto one of my mates if he hung around that stand any longer!!

Well thats the second time this year I've not been able to go to a show only to find afterwards it wasn't worth worth the bother or the entry fee. Hopefully the NEC at the end of the year will be better as I'm intending to go down to Birmingham for it.
