Just been to see Cloverfield...

... I'm fairly certain the monsters (and I use the term loosely here) were meant to have a different effect than me smirking and giggling at them.

Dont feel so bad - I saw 'I am legend' , what complete pants that was. I'll heed your warning on cloverfield, even the trailers look cheesy.

I'm still gonna give Cloverfield a go, but I agree about I Am Legend.

Will Smith should hang his head in shame!

I'll say this about it - at least it was short. ;)

It's not bad, it's just not really anything, not even special, it's just, well, 90 minutes of Handycam.

I'll admit to having not been that well up on all the internet gumph about it - or even the regular reviews - but for that I'm thankful as then I may have been in for a severe dissapointment.
As it was I was just, simply, unimpressed.

Yeah - it had it's moments, some OK editiing (though a bit predictable on the cheese/schmaltz original film cut-ins), but seriously - for gribblies that were supposed to be so suspenseful to be making squeaky/gurgle noises straight out of some cartoon - I couldn't help laughing...

... and I'm sure I wasn't supposed to be doing that. So for me it hit well wide of the mark.

Actually, the comparison to I am Legend is a good one - good suspense that deflates poorly.

Thought I am Legend was pretty good, if not a bit abrupt in its ending.

Just watched 300. Wasnt too keen on that.

Was it better than that rubbish that was Transformers? That movie was so long & boring I fell asleep during it. Twice.

Ahhh - now I liked Transformers - simple, cheesy, trashy entertainment that didn't require a brain cell.:bounce:

I am Legend was very good in parts, the suspense was built up well and the dog was a great actor ;)... but the 'monsters' again were a let down - I personally think they would have been better done with real actors and good make-up/prosthetics than the poor CGI effort that was little more than run of the mill.
The main 'antagonist' constantly seemed like he was trying to take off Arnold Vosloo's screaming from 'The Mummy'.

Charlie Wilson's War and In the Valley of Elah - now those are two supurb films that I've seen recently.

K it sounds like you have similar taste in films as me - I loved Transformers cos it appealed to the big kid in me, but I Am Legend was pretty poor, the monsters were laughable at best & some of the other CGI looked like it belonged in a Playstation game.

I urge everyone to watch No Country For Old Men - superb film

Know, the writers should hang there heads in shame. In fact they all should. With everybodies wages in the film industry rising to ridicoulous 6 figure sums, no wonder there are no decent films coming through at the moment. Everybody is to intereted in lining their pockets than taking an interest in actually what makes a good film worth wacthing. :D

Now I've looked forward to this film, and I enjoyed it.

Finally someone has decided to do something new with Movies and give a fresh approach to a suspense situation. I get annoyed when people say oh there weren't many aliens in 'Signs', I think you missed the point of the movie.

If you want a Monster movie watch Crapzilla. You want a movie that looks into everyday people dealing with crisis, this is a good contender.

I loved everything about I am Legend, all except the shocking CGI effects and crap ending.

Though these two films are excellent when compared to some of the complete trash that sits on the shelf.....The Break Up. Could of guessed what happens from the title thanks.

Agree on the 'Formers - top film, wish I could justify the £80 for the Ultimate Bumblebee toy :)

I am Legend - not too bad - serious story element re-writes, but then thats stock for a film of a book these days.

I LOVED the bit with the Zombie-Dogs being held back by a vanishing line of sunlight - VERY well done that bit

What he said, but then, I like films about isolation and the end of the world/fall of civilization :)

I thought I am Legend was a quality film, how can people say it was an abrupt ending when the star of the film is dead, it made sense, it fitted together, i thought it was good :)

Cloverfield made people sick apparently with the constant camera moving...

yeah I read something about that, motion sickness. I saw a trailer and it looked interesting...

I Am Legend looks good too, everyone seems to have very varied opinions about it all so I guess the only way of finding out will be to watch it myself :D

Cloverfield was very poor IMO. The handycam thing isn't new by any means (Blair witch) so the film needed somthing other than shakey camera work to make it interesting.
If someone were to ask me I'd tell them it's one to miss, I'd say wait for DVD but the few merits to the film would be totally lost on the small screen, so on reflection just one to miss.
