so tell me how long can you go without sleep then ?
I've developed a really bothersome ache from this knee, on my sixth day now.
Cheers Mark.

I gone about 4 days, went out and got blathered. slept like a baby
84 hours - I had to get an armour order ready for an event, then drive to the event, then help run the event.
So busy doing stuff I actually, honestly, never felt tired the whole time. Only went to bed when everything was all said and done and slept about 8 hours and woke up bright and early the next feeling fine.
If I'm working on a project I've often been known too be up for 36-48 hours without showing signs of slacking.
I did feel slightly cheated though - I was told you got hallucinations after 72 hours, I didn't get any and was most dischuffed. ;)

Unfortunatly 200mg of tramadol and 3/4 a bottle of single malt still don't have the effect I'm after, I daren't take anymore that that, next Idea please.

Sleep and myself have been merely nodding acquaintances for longer than I can remember. So much so that i am considering turning my bedroom in to a home cinema.:?
4 days or so is the longest, I think, put to an end by rather a large amount of alcohol :(

I'd say 48 hours is all i'm good for :(
Oh I feel for you Mark.
Pethidine is pretty good. I had the doc to the house once in the middle of the night when the sciatica was at its worst and I was tramadol-ed more than the label allowed and still in agony. He was a youngish doc and within no time I was out for the count.

have you tried zopiclone(not sure if thats the correct spelling)it is a very strong sleeper/relaxant.
if your case warrants it,then your doctor may prescribe it if he see,s fit.

Thanks Guys for the suggestions.
Well it could be a healing pain thing or perhaps like I had before where everything just becomes hypersensitive because you haven?t moved it in so long, I?ve started taking fexofenadine hydrochloride I had for it last time, we?ll see what that does, if not then it?s the GP?s on Monday.
I've got Zimovane and stilnoct, but neither make any difference at the moment, also have an emergency few tabs of gabapentin, but that stuff really spaces me out, so not keen on going there just yet.
Cheers Mark.

I thought fexofenadine was an antihistamine!

Personally I would quit the Tramadol and grab a handful of DF118 if you can get any, kill the pain and make you drowsy. Works for me. But my quack supplied the DF118 for the pain when the spasms in my back drop me.
I've suffered from insomnia before. For those that have not had it and may not understand it. It's not that you are not tired, exactly the opposite. You are dead on your feet, you feel like you could sleep for a week, but when putting head to pillow, nothing happens. Your mind doesn't switch off. It's worse than pain.
I suffered with this for about 4 or 5 months. In that time I think I slept at the most in one night an hour. Most nights not at all. It's a living hell. I tried drugs and booze, although it would knock you out for a short period of time, it wasn't proper sleep so the brain and body doesn't recuperate like it would with proper deep sleep.
I was told by the docs that stress was the reason. What ever the reason, eventually I finally managed to train the brain to shut-the-f**k-up and got some sleep. Once I started to sleep properly the insomnia pretty much disappeared over night.
Mark
Last resort idea... I'll come round tomorrow afternoon and bore you to sleep. Honest I've been told I can be that boring so I'll come and try it out on you.
You never know, might work :D and the side effects are non existant.
All being well I'll see you around 2, although that could be later cos I havn't a clue where I'm going. I'll bring cakes
I'll bring cakes
Diabetic cakes I assume or do you want to kill him off :?: Unless the cakes are for you of course.

Day 8?! That is bad. I don't know if it helps, but if I do a crazy amount of excerise I sleep like a log. Not sure if you can do much, but maybe try and do loads of excercise?

not really an option I'm afraid, just about anything I do hurts the knee at this stage and I also can't risk screwing it up at all, but thanks for the suggestion.

Mark, Matt gets massive bouts of insomnia, especially at this time of year with his hip. Tramadol don't go nowhere near. I think he's got a secret stasxh of demerol?(pethidine?)for when its got so bad hes headbutting the wall every night. Its for dire emergencies only though. Any other time he grinds his teeth.
Perhaps thats why he suits working nights more than me. I can go about 29 hrs but then its almost unbearable and i collapse on the sofa
but hes like a tortured duracell bunny he keeps going and going and going.......

Yeah Hun I know the feeling, unfortunately a life time of diamorph for migraine has left me fairly resistant to most things, still find out next monday if any progress has been made.

another 6 hours, feeling much better than I have for a while now, far more normal.
so a total of about 211 hours, to be honest I think not actually doing anything each day whilst not making it pleasent, did make it possible.
Cheers Mark.
Serrrrweet. Glad things have turned slightly for you Mark. A little run of good fortune in crap times is always lifting. :thumleft:

Sleep deprivation is an interesting area of research, there was a guy in america a few decades ago that didnt sleep for ages and ages, a few hundered hours i think, and he had all sorts of hallucinations...desk on fire, etc. Still gave his radio show though, delivered with the same brilliance as he always did.
Matt
Happy to hear your finally getting some shut eye.
I used to be terrible, 2 or 3 hours sleep a night for about a year.
I found the best thing for me was to get up and sleep somewhere else other than my own bed. (setee, spare room, anywhere) it was the only thing that worked. Some nights I would go down stairs, doze off on the setee for 40 mins, wake up, so I'd move to the spare room get an hour there and sometimes even end up back in my own bed.
Sleep deprivation is very serious, it messes with your brain chemistry and some studies even say that it can lead to mental illness and brain damage.
