Anyone had problems with quality on HG gear?

I've had a pair of Tricky II pants for a month and the waist adjusters are starting to come unstitched; and I havent even adjusted them!

I'm not exactly a fat *******, but looks as though the stretch panel behind hasnt exactly helped when I'm riding the beast!

I called the store to find out how easy it would be to have them replaced - and it sounds hopeful (they'll either do a direct replacement or have them repaired and give me a loan pair) - but they said "it depends whether we consider it an appropriate defect"...

Whats an appropriate defect if the stitching is ****e?

Hi

I have matching leathers from HG no problem, bought a water proof jacket from them, so the zip would work on my leather pants, no probelm, but twice the zip came apart. I put it down to me, but if it happens again I will have to go in 200 for a jacket that does that.

the gear they sell is good though, GMP use all the gear for the motorcyclist.

I've had an issue with zips on a number of bits of their gear (textile jacket, all in one waterproof), always after a year or so, basically too long to take it back but disappointing none the less. Also had a seam of the flex pad on my HG race boots go. Suffice to say for boots I'll be buying another make in the future.

They use YKK zips which are the same zips as most other companies use. Do the zips themselves break or where the zips are stitched to the leather.

I have alway found HG stuff to be of very high quality to be honest though.

Where the zips have gone they've not been YKK zips, but some other/own brand make.

try PMing paws, as she works for HG and may be able to help.

PS the zips broke on my HG leathers after just a few months, but only the bit you pull on so i just replaced them with keyrings

I think she wants to change jobs but dotn know if she has as yet.

I changed a pair of HG gloves after nearly 2yrs for a stitching issue. Basicaly the leather was ripping away from a seam that wasnt straight.

Whilst at it i asked them about the zips and was told that zips are not covered under their warranty (which i think suks a bit but is understandable at the same time) but from what you say about your issue i would be demanding a replacment pair.

After all you are supposed to be able to crash in these and for the stitching to hold, right? So clearly they are not fit for purpose if the stitching is comming apart under the minor strain of your belly and normal daily use. ;)

Good luck...i also find i get a lot further calling HG's head office to discuss these things than playing the lottery of finding a sensible member of staff on duty when i visit.
I once had to tell the are manager in my local store that his attitude about my broken indicator was very wrong and if he spoke to me in that tone again he should expect me to lean over the counter and slap him like the bitch he was behaving like.
The other staff loved me after that

it's fairly common practice to send a product back to have it assessed. reason being that people sometimes will lie about something like this and may have damaged the item through miss-use, which the dealer can't always be sure about. so sending the item back to the manufactuer will give an answer.

i say this coming from the perspective of an independant sports retailer who has this sort of thing on a fairly regular basis. the best example is with cricket bats. people buy them, don't knock them in properly and ofc bring them back to us broken (after we've told them knocking in MUST be done properly). so if a bat looks like it might not have been prepared properly we send it back to be sure. all because if we give a customer a new bat or their money and then send the bat back to find it's not a manufacturing fault we ie. the company won't get any money for the bat!! :smt118

yes you then have nothing to use, but unfortunately we don't get loan stuff from the companies for "in the mean time".

sorry to boar you all, just thought i'd have a little post ;)

er? how the hell do you knock a bat in properly? I thought it was just a case of smashing the little red ball as hard as you can when it comes hurtling towards your sticks!:D

Used HG stuff for years. Quality wise you get what you pay for. Returns/warranty policy normally very good (depending on which store you use. Slough were poo.....:().

Had a sleeve zip slider break on my Cruise Gore-Tex jacket. Returned under warranty. Long story short......shop lost my original jacket, wouldn't replace with same item until they found mine and were basically very unhelpful. This started in October so was very cold and needed a decent jacket.

Eventually sent an email to head office (MD no less, customer services manager and area manager). Sent at 09.30, reply at 11.00, and huge 3 month problem solved by 18.00. Just had to rattle the right doors.

Not bad kit at not bad prices.

If you do have a problem, read your warranty, be nice and pleasant even though you are complaining and be patient (to a point). If this doesn't work, write to the big wigs!!!!

Regards

Rich;)

do you really want me to go into this?! :D as i am extemely sad and will if you want me too. you have to use a special wooden mallet before you use a ball (in very short terms!!)

I called them up and they said bring them in... so I did..

They took a look and said theres a chance they will "repair" it, and I said that wont be good enough as the stitching uses fairly large cord into leather, so restitching the same point will reduce the integrity of the leather, making it unfit for purpose.

on closer inspection... the stitching remains intact (slightly)... but the actual material wasnt stitched in properly, which is why it has come loose.

Other than this I am fairly happy - theyre getting me a loan pair in as I will probably need something this weekend. Plus since I bought them in the sales, you cant really argue about the quality compared to how much I've paid... the quality far exceeds the price.

But I wont be happy if these arent replaced for the above reasons... restitching will only mean I'll take them back in a couple of weeks but with a torn peice of leather instead!
