But turns out you don't need one, I was thinking Butser hill near me might be a reasonable glide angle!! 8)

but yes, I'd like a go with a 'chute first

Indeed, it has gotten to the stage where I NEED one too ...

I was kinda hoping someone on here knew someone that did it and I could tag on to one of their flights ... :thumleft:

I wasn't aware that you could use them as a 'personal glider' type of affair - now that IS cool !! (but would require cohones of immense proportions to leap out of a plane!!)

I know Butser hill & it sounds like a reasonable location to me.

What sort of money are we talking by the way ?

I wonder how long this ski-jump style runway will be. And what surface it will have.

isnt there a squril that can do this?

I think you may be thinking of the Fruit Bat or Flying Fox who 'fly' from tree to tree ?

I think you need to have done at least 200 "regular" jumps before your allowed to do a wing suit jump.

Not if you do a B.A.S.E jump or know someone with a plane!! 8)

Actually I know somone who works with somone who has just made a homebuild microlite :-k

But do they go high enough?!

Most BASE jumpers are very experienced skydivers, even in the BASE community they reckon its worth having at least 50 jumps before trying a wing suit.

I wouldn't even do a regular skydive (I am qualified skydiver, although haven't jumped for about 6 years) without having some refresher training first.

Why not make your own wingsuit as well, I bet you could knock up an ace one out of an old duvet cover and some coat-hangers

Why wotz so hard?

Jump ... fly ... at correct altitude, pull 'chute cord ... 'flare' and bend legs on landing ... what are you going to get from 50 jumps (that you can't learn in one .. there is always gonna be a first wingsuit ride).

Like with 'normal' skydiving I think the idea is for everything to become 2nd nature & to become adept at coping with things that may be considered out of the 'norm' (this you'll never achieve with just 1 jump) before complicating things by adding the Wingsuit

Rather you than me.
Just flying stable belly to earth usually takes a couple of jumps to get the hang of.
Turning, forward and backward motion, tracking etc takes a few jumps to learn, 10 or 20 (at least) to really master.
I imagine you use similar body inputs to fly a wing suit but the resulting movement is greatly exaggerated.

Not to mention aircraft exits, reserve drills canopy control etc.

Can I have your track bike ?

Nope, gagging to do one ... it's on my to-do list!! :)

Happy to do a normal skydive before using a wingsuit ... just not 50 of them!! I'd be bored of it by then!! :D

how can throwing yourself out of an airy plane be boring? Dude, you have thrill issues!

When you do your first one you'll realise just how much effort it does take to control your flight.
It's not human instinct to fly ;)
+ you won't get bored!

To my mind, there is not a lot to it really to keep me amused ... a bit like a bungee jumping ... first time must be cool, perhaps even the 2nd or 3rd ? but by the 50th time it must be a little 'samey' ;)

Unless you start doing BASE, its kinda - there is like lots of sky to fall about in, ohhhh, I'll go over there a bit ... oooo, ill go over here a bit ... so what!?!? ;)

Once the thrill of jumping out of a servicable aircraft and the fear of the chute not opening* wears off, I can't see much to it to keep me entertained ...

But I HAVE to give it a crack at some point, it looks so kool 8)

* that is always gonna be at the back of your head, but if you have done it dozens of times before and it has always worked, its not like it is going to 'brick' you as much ;)
