PLEASE DISREGARDE THE OTHER BEST SV THREADS THIS ONE IS WHERE THE ACTION IS :D
Hi folks after consideration and an idea by super mod fizz i will be running WEEKLY rounds for the Best SV 2008,
THE RULES :
Each user may show no more than 4 photos per class (so if you are entering two bikes that means two photos per bike),
remember that this is a public vote for the winner so any entries will have to state their case so a brief post about why your bike is best may help.
unless stated this is SV only owned OR have owned.. there are classes for non SV's
Entries to each class need to be in by the THURSDAY of each week, the thread will be locked and a poll/polls will be created for voting.
voting closes on sunday at noon and the winner is announced.
Prizes range from A1 / A2 / A3 Prints and SV decals to the top prize of a Proffesional photo shoot either at any midlands based race track or in a studio*
*Top prize winner, will recieve a phone call from myself organising dates and allowances etc
THIS WEEKS..
MOST RUSTED DOWN PIPE !
this is something that almost everyone can enter... have fun :thumleft:

19-02-08, 10:00 AM
so will this be limited to the 10 that can be put into a single poll for voting or be over several polls ?
and do the people who entered the other one enter again or not ?
Oh and what does best actually mean in this context ?
Cheers Mark.

hmmmmmm, most rusted downpipe..well it may not be that rusty anymore, but it did take an angle grinder(to get the nuts off cause they'd disintegrated), 2 weeks of soaking in plus gas, turning the engine upside down and then a set of stud extractors to get the damn thing off
does it count??
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb45/loubi650/2008_01260007.jpg
the clamp above had so much rust welded to it, it had split in half and stuck itself to the pipe somehow, it took a lot of swearing to get it off

Liz's bike, taken after about 2 months of everyday commute use through a winter.

I know most of that is dirt and baked on road salt, but there is some rust underneath there somewhere

no there will be multiple polls if needed
and do the people who entered the other one enter again or not ? .
yes if you were involved in the other thread you may enter as normal
Oh and what does best actually mean in this context ?.
best SV is just the title, for a round of competitions, the "best" part would be the best in which ever class you enter,
as for the rusted down pipe pete.. a bog standard stained downpipe isnt going to win against one thats been neglected for years.. i disagree they dont all look the same :D

Amateur ;):D Liz's SV does alot of miles. Her commute to work is 120 mile round trip so in the winter the bike gets filthy and its pointless trying to keep it clean so we dont bother.
Mind you after I washed it the downpipe didnt look alot better :D
dizzyblonde
19-02-08, 10:47 AM
fair play fizz, I don't commute that far, but cause I don't have a car to get to work Suzy was used all year, and has been used on several occasions in the snow( but not by mee cause i'm a wimp!!)

Er Why ? This is an SV site. IMHO stick to SV's theres plenty of other sites out there for other types of bike. yes I know a few of us have changed bikes, but lets not loose focus on what the core of this site is. I.e the SV.

i didnt think it was fair to exclude people when its so much easier to create a class for the Non SV owners,
the non sv classes were always designed to run paralell with another SV related class in the same week
wouldnt you like to put your Gixer up against other bikes? you still get prizes like everyone else.

But this is an SV forum, not a general bike forum.

Personally no I wouldnt. Not on a model specific forum, yes I might on somewhere like Visor down. It'd be like the junkies running a non GSXR competition thread, go and ask them about that on there and see what sort of feedback you get.
John 675
20-02-08, 07:21 PM
i see your point, i just dont see why we cant include members that have changed machines they still belong and contribute to the site, its almost like saying if you have changed machines your not to use the site anymore the comp has more SV related classes than non SV anyway can it really hurt to cater for others?
John 675

im just about to kick start the same thing on Gixerjunkies currently, we are just waiting for the GJ donington trackday to pass then the same thing goes up there, with one or two non GSXR classes included,
i cant be bothered in battling prople about this, im doing the comp to add a little to the site which ive enjoyed using for over a year and since ive had my SV, all the prizes are off my own back and it was supposed to be something for all members to enjoy and have a laugh with.. so why am i getting PMs and posts telling me to not do this or i shouldnt do that?
i can honestly see your point fizz and this is by no means a rant directly against you because your not the first to mention it, i put one or two classes for non SV owners so everyone that wants to be can be included and take part.
this was supposed to be fun for the Org but its slowly turning into a ball ache.

I just think you should leave the non SV stuff out thats all. I'd wager that even now that us owners of different model bikes are in the minority so do someting that the majority can join in with and you'll be onto a winner.
I applaud the sentinment for wanting it to be open to everybody, but if my feelings are stick to what we as a forum do best, which is SV's

whilst I'm all for maintaining the SV focus of the forum, with a subject like "downpipes condition" I don't think it really matters as the condition bit seems to be the main point not what bike it's on, although extending that I did think the subject would be better chosen as it's not very interesting to just look at down pipes whether shiney or not, can't we have something with a whole bike in it :smt102
Cheers Mark.

......... this class was an easy one.. we started almost halfway through the week and was something almost everyone could have a say in... the whole point of this one was to ease people in to the comp where as the better classes start next week.. as for the other bikes i guess your right its not a multi bike forum, its about the SV so the other classes will be dropped that are non SV related.. so SV ONLY from hear on please folks..
one other thing though :- if next weeks thread ends up like this one then it stops and everyone can go back to talking about the same old same old.. if anyone has an issue with that then please feel free to contact my complaints department which is located in your nearest brick wall. ;)

LyleJ :p
i cant see the harm in including non SV's in just 1 of the 10+ rounds, but as i have no chance of winning, im not bothered, the main thing most of us have in commen is at one point we have owned a SV so i think we should be able to enter bikes we used to own

as far as I'm aware this is a Photo section, not a just SV section or has that changed :smt102
Whilst it's very nice of you lylej to offer prizes and all that, I'd thought these threads would be some interesting pictures and a bit of fun in a poll maybe? ( just as the first one was).
If you choose not to continue then I don't see why a basic topic couldn't be put up each month to achieve the same ends ?
Cheers Mark.

this is in the sticky section originally posted by Jelster and has been working for sometime I believe.
To try and get this under way "properly" I've started a new thread. All photos for each month will come here, I will then "split" the thread at this point every month. However, we will generate a list of winners.
Few simple rules...
One entry per person per month
The winner of the competition will suggest the subject for the following month.
The winner cannot enter the following month, but they should provide a photo in the opening post to set the standard if they want to.
"Photoshoped" images: ALL images in the scene have to be your own work, putting a decent picture onto a background that you didn't take isn't exactly fair.
If you do photoshop the picture please mention it when you post it. Not that there is anything wrong with editing them, it just will allow people to make their on decisions about voting.Winners so far:
June '07 TC3
July '07 Blue Pete
and seems to work well so far, now having a bike oriented one could work the same way then couldn't it ?
Cheers Mark.

it could be rictus, just not by me, although there is really nothing overly interesting in down pipes the other classes that follow would prove fruitfull for a larger range of more interesting pics the reason i chose this one first is as i said because the comp started halfway through the week and it wasnt a class that really needed a weeks worth of attention for what is was..
come on chaps.. IM JUST TRYING TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND FUN... give me a break

well I'll await next weeks one then, perhaps the subject will stimulate a little more interest.

no this one has nothing to do with the one that was posted before this thread, i started it all again.. so next weeks will be a better class, another reason for this one was to enable me to finalize the prizes without LOADS of people entering

I have to say, I'm with Lyle. The org isn't just about SV's - it's more a group of people who were brought to same place by a common interest. Many of the big posters/personalities have since moved on from the SV, but doesn't really mean they are in no way a lesser part of the .org community and think that while some SV only categories are a good thing, others open to all is a nice sentiment.
Most rusty downpipe competition :?:.
For real :?:.

Wow to that. Spose I'll go post in the Cbr forum for a bit then till I get an SV again.
Wow to that. Spose I'll go post in the Cbr forum for a bit then till I get an SV again.
Don't be childish about it. There are too many people that no longer have SV's' that want thier new bike to be part of this site too.
Regardless of what motorcycle people ride, everyone is welcome that is why so many people that have changed motorcycles stay. But this IS an SV site and regardless of how many of it's users have changed motorcycles, the SV is what makes this site. There are more and more SV owners joining on a daily basis. They didn't join the site because they just bought a new GSXR or CBR the joined because they bought an SV.
If everyone else's non SV bikes start getting added for this and for that, the ethos of the site will be diluted and lost. It will then become just another motorcycling site and forum. Personally, I think that would be a complete kick in the teeth for the founder of the site, for John (admin) and all the moderating team that try to run this site.
I wouldn't have thought it that much to ask, that you continue to come and enjoy the site (and make people laugh cause your funny) but to leave non SV related bike stuff at the door on your way in :?:
