sv setup, how much?

hey every1, im looking at doing my test in agaust and getting a sv, im only 16 and (17 in agaust) want something a little individual, i want to fit a full fairing (http://www.kompo-tech.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=26_60&products_id=247&osCsid=d81ffc9006d88daa34c9527a37c45574) a restrictor kit crash bungs (to protect the v nice fairing) and a single seat cowl o and mabe a pipe if my budget can stretch to it

the question is does anyone recon i could do it on my £2000 budget and what is the incurance on a sv like, and how much does it cost on average tot do your restricted licence, i ride a geared 50 atm and ride everyday so am used to the road.

Of your ?2k you should budget about ?300 MINIMUM for your kit - ?500 is a better figure.

Dont fit a fairing etc, as if you drop it (and you will) the crash bungs wont really save it - and you will probably have to drill them to fit the bungs.

Single seat cowl for an older, curvy SV - anything from ?50 up.

Insurance - would guess at ?500, but use an online quote generator to see what it comes up with.

No idea on the cost of instruction to get through a your test, so cant help there.

A reasonable SV will cost you at least ?1000, you can get them cheaper, but those will come with their own problems/expense.

If you abandon your "individual" bike dreams for now, then it might be just doable on ?2000, but it will be tight.

Get the bike, learn to ride it (it will be VERY different to the 50) THEN save up and get the nice bits.

I'd suggest getting your test done sharpish as soon as possible, as you probably know the rules change soon.

I would guess more like 600 for insurance.

I'd also forget about the full fairings and stuff, stop being a tart and buy a naked one. You WILL drop it at some point so you might as well save the money.

That said, the S is far more common, but an insurance group higher, and if you're prepared to play about with repairing and spraying stuff then you might find some fairings dirt cheap.

the 50 is a geared bike, its a tzr 50 and i can get my knee down on it so give me a lil credit i do no how to handle a bike, and yes that 1 has been on the floor but everything has been replaced a its mint and i think i can trust myself with fairings again, i do understand that the sv will be heavier but that will be something i can get used to, the fairings to all bungs to be fitted throught the air vent without having to be drilled, im 17 in agaust so i will be doin my test on my birthday (as i did mith my cbt)

Well I'd say get the bike sorted on the road first, then think about where you want to put your money.

I'd start with a can, as the SV does sound lovely.

Then you'll probably want to upgrade the suspendies

I did the same as you went from a 50cc to the SV. I managed to take advantage of the 0% finance offer so got a new bike and a service package and restriction kit. You'll be stretched to get a decent bike, insurance and restriction kit, for ?2000. Aswell as paying for you test aswell. My first years insurance was ?500 TP.

Oh and chucking a 50cc race rep around is a total different game to the SV. I know i've been there. Give the bike plenty of respect, you may know how to change gears and lean over but learning to ride the roads properly is totally different. Everyone on this site will tell you that they are still learning and falling off no matter their age.

And i'm on your side too, theres alot of older people that might give you advice on here and tell you your youthful and stupid but theres more older guys on here that have fell off than the younger ones with restricted bikes. I know plenty more older guys that ride bikes and almost all of them take more risks than me on the road.

You will learn like the rest of us, good luck with getting the right bike.

I would just stick with trying to pass your test first. I hope you pass first time, but if you don't like me it could get quite expensive. I took four times( I aren't embarrased by it) because I dreaded u turns on test day. But you seem to have had a fair amount of road use so your one step ahead.

For your age( and I'm asuming your a young man) insuring an Sv will be considerably expensive, even 3PFT.
As for trick bits, I'd wait. You'll end up dropping your Sv and have scars like mine!! Everyone does, it happens.
I was lucky enough to have a fair amount of money to spend on trick bits last year, but I also already had an SV. Theres been 600 quids worth of parts sat under my bed like colour coded bellypans, huggers, shocks, springs etc. But the pile has been added to over the last couple of months and has eaten my bank account( screens, OEM seat cowl in yellow etc). It needs taxing this month, testing next month and insuring in May. But I'm greedy and have it all to do twice. its an expensive hobby.
Everyone on here will give you good advice. I hope you find some handy tips

spike i let you sit on mine and for some insane reason i WOULD let you have a go but believe me its totally different from your 50 but im sure you realise that

anyways, this is what i payed to give you a rough guide.

bike - £2500 (you've see why :lol:, but you would obviously get one cheaper)
test - £450 2 1/2 days then test (haggled down from £550)
33bhp kit - £220 something i think. fitted. (ripped off, i will give you a hand if you wanted to fit your own)
insurance - £456 TPFT but i'm 18 with 1 1/2 years no claims so i don't know what yours would be like.

but don't forget you will have some dosh to play with when you sell your 50, if you clean it :rolleyes:

heya. some on here know ive not long been riding my sv. ive got a rs50 and have been riding tht for over a year. ive been riding since i was 3 (motorcross) and have been on many other bikes others and my own since passing my test. i would say im quite a confident rider but am the first to admit ive still alot to learn. i would say get the bike get on the road and learn to ride it, worry about the posh stuff later. mine is standard and has cost me near 200 quid for a lil drop out side the house the other day. this was down to my expirence and getting used to the bike. a v twin is a very different ride to many and it WILL catch you out from time to time as in locking the bk wheel. i love the engine and being able to use it so strongly as a brake but you have to take it easy when you make such a big jump.

my cost are at.
2200 for the bike.
near 900 for this bikes gear.
880 insurance. 3rd p fire an theft, age 17 1yrs ncb.
£17 a week for petrol, (tis a shock in price from running a 50 to 650!!!)

Be careful i might sound liek my dad but it was a shock to me once i started riding the sv. One more thing have fun. scott. ;)

How much is insurance supposed to be? I'm only 28 and My SV costs me £96 a year in insurance. I take it that's good then?!?

Although it IS yellow, so no one can nick it and be unobtrusive!

wish mine was 96 pound, tht is rele cheap, unofortunatly age is every thign when it comes to insurance. looks like around 17 you'll be looking at 800. 19 some where around 400 then after 25 it does drop. my dads insurance on a new er 6f was only bout 80. its just not fair.!!! :rolleyes: scott.

If you shop around you can get insurance at 17 for 500, i live in one of the worst parts of the country have 3 points and paid 500

It's only expensive when you're younger because you personally are an unknown quantitiy, and on average (not saying you mate) younger riders are more 'invincible' then older (see cynical) riders!

Once you've had you first BPF of over 9.0 (bum-pucker-factor) such as a tank slapper at (ahem) naughty speeds, and you realise the human heart just ain't designed to do 200 beats a minute, your insurance will probably come down sometime soon after (if you survive it!)

Removal of your underwear from your ar** however, well, that may take longer!

You're going to look like a chump the first time you chuck it down the road and then don't have the money to get it back up and running. Then, suddenly all the trick bits and associated coolness aint so cool. FFS, at your age, just having a bike should be thrill enough. Best keep it in your pants while driving and put some miles in on a bike with that much grunt. In time, you can do all your modding. But, then again, when I was your age, patience meant about 3 seconds. Have fun and be careful, keep your eyes on the road not the birds!

no it dosent, iv had quotes and they said as long as its not a performance part they dont reli care, as long as its been stated they wont care, + if i do have an accident its cheeper 4 them 2 replace a fibreglass fairing than an original suzuki plastic 1

Only thing that hasn't been mentioned is the crash protectors.

You CAN get crash protectors that will fit the point (03 onwards) models with lower fairing. They are the R&G ones, and will set you back £90.

WELL worth it as they also include new engine bars and a stronger fairing bracket that is attached to 2 engine bars (not just one at an angle), so isn't going to snap the standard one and ruin the fairing in the event of an off.

Are you sure? Before it popped he put videos of it running(with a strange noise :)) on youtube. Then i thought he passed his test, used it for a bit and it died. Of course i could be wrong.......
