My first post
Been thinking about buying another "proper" bike for a good few years - SV650 ticks my boxes of being slim, light and cheap(ish) with enuf power to be fun without shredding my licence (or me!). The deciding factor is that I have never owned a Suzuki before!
So finally got around to seriously visit the local Suzuki dealer last Saturday and am trying to buy an SV650 - which is a bit of a slower process than I thought :(
Originally I was thinking of the "S" (with a half fairing) - but look like going for the fully faired "Sport" - for ease of cleaning really! For me pros and cons on the looks front.
The dealer is being a bit slow in telling me if they have / can get a black one (I like black bikes ) - so I have a bit of time on my hands and been looking on the Suzuki website they don't seem to mention teh Model year - dealer says 2008 exactly the same as 2007 - but then I do some Googles and see mention of ABS (Oz and the USA only?).
I would be quite happy with a 2007 spec bike, but if their is a 2008 spec UK bike coming out later this year I want one OR a decent discount on the 2007 model. any ideas what's happening this year with the SV650?
(BTW I did check the sticky post on models, but talk seems to stop on the 2007 model)
I've just ordered a gixer K8 model and won't get it until mid-March. Maybe they're trying to use up old stock first (which could mean some discounts if you buy a K7 model.)
I think the SV is only available in two or three colours, yet I bought a brand new SV650S last year (the light metallic blue colour which isn't one of the standard colours available.) Maybe the delay could also be due to you wanting a colour that isn't standard.
Anyway, good choice of bike as the Sport is only £100 or so dearer than the "S" model which is good value when you think of the extras that you get. As for the SV itself, it's a great bike, in fact everything you could want. It's flickable and light, very forgiving if you get it wrong while horsing along. It's reliable too, mine hasn't missed a beat and I think I get 50 plus mpg. You can even do some long distance touring in comfort.

SV650s is a great bike, whatever model you get (although curvy ones look better :^o:D). You'l be able to hang with the supposedly better bikes, you'll be mega comfy, you'll be able to tour, thrash, commute, trackday, just ruddy get home, scratch, take a pillion comfortably, make a great big noise when you fit a race exhaust.
All for not alot of pennies.

Actually it was a "curvy one" that first attracted my attention in a local s/h advert - but a bit too yellow for my tastes! The main downside to a new one is that I can't / won't put on an exhaust with a bit more base until I am sure I won't need the Warranty - can't see me lasting the full 2 years though!
Gave up waiting for a call back today - unfortunately got "press 1 for......" and then ended up with "leave a message" I wouldn't mind so much but not exactly a superstore sized operation.......and of course still no call back today :smt021 If only I wasn't working for a living I would have time to spend on the phone trying to get in contact - unfortunately the only Suzuki dealer for a longggggg way - so for practicality purposes I am kinda stuck with 'em.
Whilst I have never been one who wants their a#sed kissed when making a fairly major purchase, I do like a touch of co-operation! Obviously they don't know this is my 4th brand new bike - cos' I only bought one of them from this dealer - albeit an Aprillia 125 scooter and a few years back now......but maybe I confused 'em on Saturday by only wanting to pay in cash......must be nice not to need the bizness
Differnce in model years 2007 to 2008 AFAIK are:
2007 colours a bit ghey
2008 decent colours like Black (red seat which looks good IMHO)

Black sounds good :D
Is the K8 part of the frame number?
Not to say the dealer would try and palm me off with an 07 model, but.........

I'm sure there's a way to put a can on without it invalidating the warranty

right Alpha motorcycles in leigh on sea have (today) offered me a K8 suzuki sv650sport (fully faired) for £4699 on the road with £300 to spend on whatever i want in the shop. Including the two year warranty.
Also, in black or blue i've been offered (i saw the black, has a red seat (characteristic of K8 i believe) and looks HOT!
Good luck getting it, i'm currently debating between ninja zx6r and sv650sport :)

Yeh, but if you go for a K7 bike (black available) you can get that for £3995 minumum.
The lowers and solo seat are only £450 so you end up saving £250 just by getting a K7
Of course I wouldnt waste the money on the lowers and would get a belly pan instead as that looks better on a pointy.
And for the original poster - I wouldnt get lowers if you just got your licence - they are expensive to repair if you drop.

Cheque paid over this morning :p Delivery end of March......
Not sure about the red seat, but love black bikes - so I figure outta the 2 a new seat is easier / cheaper to sort than a total respray!
I was kinda tempted though by the dark grey version (nearly black in the brochure) but stuck to my original decision.....
Not quite a new licence holder - last decent bike was an EXUP (when they were very briefly hot poop ),which kinda dates me :smt114........but been rattling around on a 125 Scooter for the last few years or so........something I never saw myself EVER EVER doing - but they are soooooo practical :p
