View Full Version : Finally joined the Greenlane Brigade
Is this what old age brings....??? Cant say I've been enjoying road riding the last months so Ive been saving my pennies and more importantly brownie points up over this time. We have a local MX track just down the road in Lyne and for ?15 on a Saturday its gotto be fun. I also want to try a few Hare & Hounds in the South this summer so looking forward to these as well. Have done the deal and pick it up tomorrow.... If you've been listening Ive been hankering for one for some time now. Hoping the excitement lasts past the first fall :)

Oh my, what a beast. Thats will be a handful of fun. Dont forget to join the advrider Europe crew at some point :smt023. I am hoping some of us may get together come late spring.
Good stuff Grant, I'm happy for you - it's flippin' brilliant fun.
Gimme a shout if you head over Dorking / Box Hill sort of way for the lanes over there.
Will do for sure Lee - i need someone to show me the local beauty spots now.

Beast it will be im sure - its going to be a dual purpose role as I'm far and few between the lanes around here - I wanted something of an allrounder. Overkill on the MX track and any technical stuff for me but should take to tarmac nicely and with supermoto an option as well. Keep us posted on any plans - a weekend in Wales will be on the cards later in the year.
No Chinese ****e for you! Nice one

Do you mind me asking how many hours / miles it's done, what plate it is and how much you got it for? :)
No, you are not bored with the DRZ  But if one were, I know someone looking for one, maybe.

Sure its an 05 plate, done a little over 80hrs/2000 miles as a greenlaner from what i understand. Gettin it off a kid who got it for enduros and has found it too much of a beast... Cost 2.5. I know another local guy who has one for 2.8 - exactly the same with slightly longer history but rebuilt fork/shocks if you want one too...

Watch those knobblies on tarmac. :smt010 I stayed upright for about 6 miles while 'getting the hang of the DRZ' on some my local (tarmac) lanes.
Looks a mean piece of kit that though Grant, have fun.
Ohhh and a trip to Wales, be sure to give me a shout. If you mean the real Wales that is (i.e the North :D)

That's the area I ride in Rich - some nice lanes round there :)
Whenever I go to Newlands there always seems to be a group of guys on bikes covered in mud
I used to look at those people and be jealous. Now I'm one of them it's brilliant
I always feel sorry for the one (there nearly always is one) with the kick start that won't start who gets left behind.

You binned it on tarmac Mike?
Doh!
Hope you and the scoot are okay. It's quite fun lighting up the rear in the wet on those knobblies :)
Yeah 15 mph lowside coming off a bridge. No idea what happened, one minute sunny and enjoying new ride, next sitting on my @rse looking at the front wheel. Grazed my knee (:smt089) and broke a hand guard thingy, probs some new scratches on the bike. Did 10 miles of muddy lanes after just to get the hang of it, fell off some more! :smt057 my new bike. :D

Yep. Had no idea where they'd been but always looked like theyd been having a great deal of fun.

Well at least you're okay, that's all that really matters.
You really should ride with other people though mate!
Yeah. Riding with others will defo be done when further afield (was on local lanes and I know most of the farms whose land they cross, never more than 2 miles from my house). Funny enough, there was a landy in front of me when I fell off and I know the guy. He saw me fall off in his mirrors, but didn't stop because I'm 'one of those bloody scramblers, aye!' - went quite pink when I mentioned it in the pub. :D
Joined TRF so hope to get out with those guys.
Sorry for hijack Grant!

How do you measure the hours  just rely on someones' diary/calculations?
Arghhh!!!!
Stop showing me offroaders..... this forum isn't safe any more...nothing to see here... just my imagination - twas an orange SV that's all....
:-D
Enjoy...
Think I'd have to go with something like an EC250 or crf myself due to the number of times I'd be picking it up.
Not that I am considering anything of the sort.
At all.
Not even a little bit.
Damn - look what you've done - I'm quoting numbers after letters now

Realistically not that much difference in weight among most of the smaller enduros unless you go for something very crap or very good, is there?

How about posting up or pointing to a beginners guide to Enduros or all the off road classes? :)

http://www.enduronews.com/index.htm - this is a decent start for ideas. Maybe try a day out like the others.
Nice KTM Grant, looks like great fun. I would say give us a go but I don't reach the floor on them. :(
Which is why I have never entertained the fact of getting an offroader.

Gary could prob switch dogbones/get the seat cut down and he might be able to get his toes down......:smt046
Actually you'd probably have a blast on one of those medium size 125 machines for teenagers - they're darn quick and as they are so small (and you so lite) you'd be able to throw them around no end.

At least knee downs would be a doddle
I've got that one covered:

http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/bike/drz125/k8/ The seat height is smaller than the SV :D... wait, aren't off road bikes meant to be taller :-?
If only I had some money... :( *sigh* *dreams*

Yes, but you just lean them to put a foot down. Pick a light one and thats ok to do. And of course you dont put a foot down anyway.
what you do in my case is just fall off when you stop :-s
Another offroader in the GM! looks a beast of a bike Grant, im sure your have a blast.
What made you want to get one?

Yeah but just a mini-beast. Took it for a blast today out on the road today. Brilliant fun - so lite - feels stable upto 60mph then gets a little skittery .
Number of things really... I like the idea of getting muddy, riding any weather, Trail riding, Hare & Hounds enduros, MX, supermoto... but overall just being more involved on the bike physically.
