Finally admitted defeat and started taking cod liver oil for my poor aching bones/joints (legs) - anyone else take them and have you noticed a difference?? (only took my first one this AM, so its not like I will yet!! :D).

Or have I wasted my money at best part of £4 for a pot of yellow goo ...

Aren't you meant to use a lithium based greas on stiff joints?

I know one of the leading scientists in the field and he swears by cod liver oil, he reckons it makes a huge difference. He's 50+, a reasonably big build and the chap is still running very competative marathon times.

Ahhh---The Cod Liver Oil and the Orange Juice,my mother used to make me take it every moening along with Yeast Extract
It does help a little but can't stop the onset of oldage unfortunately

I take cod liver oil, find capsules are the easiest.
Seems to ease my crappy joints a little.

The clock is ticking, but my aches and pains are mostly injury related ...

Yes it does make a difference! What the weight though, I put on loads when I'm taking them!

My cat takes this too, it really helps with his arthritus in winter (someone correct my spelling!) he stops hobbling and can act like a kitten again, amazing difference in days!

I find those little jelly capsules are effective - you know, the suppository things. Oh, you mean you're supposed to swallow them? :smt103

I did take CLO, but for some reason I seem to have stopped. Mind you, I do eat a lot of sardines. Cat breath, me. ;-)

Since getting injured training for the marathon I have been taking glucosamine, cod liver oil tabs and a multi vitamin with iron. All fro Zipvit.com.

Have I noticed a difference - well not that I know of, but they were relatively inexpensive so i'll persevere (sp?) with them.

For a moment I thought you's started talking to cod liver oil...........

Anyway I take them for my weight training. When I'm not on them I tend to get sore shoulder and elbow joints after a heavy session. Sign of getting old I guess (even though I look 12 according to ASM).

I take glucosamine with chondroitin - I've had discs removed and a ruptured cruciate recently, and it's made a huge difference. My dogs are on it too - it's consistently coming out top in medical/vet surveys for attracting water to ligaments and helping with arthritis in particular.

Holland and Barrett do it in their sales.

Yeah - I was about to say that your are probably better off taking Glucosamine and Chrondroin for joints... CLO has a slightly broader effect (does some other stuff too that I can't remember) so if it's specific joint pain the first two are more targetted.

As for Holland an Barratt - do they actually sell anything at full price? Everything always seems to be on sale all the time... according to their TV ads anyway. ;)

Cheers guys, I am too tight to waste the CLO, so I'll finish that up and then start 'shooting up' on "Glucosamine and Chrondroin" instead!! :D

Well after my gym session tonight I am mostly drinking a couple of cans of John Smiths and a bottle of Shiraz. That way it won't be the aching joints getting my attention in the morning, but my aching head, diversionary tactics, it's the way forward.

I take a combined cod liver oil and multi vitamin supplement every day.
Boots own brand, and half price if you join the free Boots Health club.

Another vote for glucosamine sulphate. I have been taking it for a while and have noticed a difference in as much as I don't suffer from the problems I got before taking it so I guess its working. :p

I use to take them every day for the hell of it, got a big tub here but never get around to taking them anymore... perhaps i'll take the odd one.

also a few people seem to be taking many other supplements along with cod liver oil, just make sure you're not taking to much of certain vitamins. Seaven seas cod liver oil capsules i have contain 100% RDA of vitamin A, so if you're taking vitamins and eating some fruit or veg, you're probably going to be having 2/3 times that amount. Not sure how much you need to take, but certainly too much vitamin A isnt too good for you!

Just one word of warning though

DON'T take glucosamine if you're allergic to shellfish. They're made out of the shells. This may be relevant also if you're vegetarian. There is a substitute available not made out of shellfish, but I understand it's not nearly so effective.
