anyone got one or had experience with them?

I'm after the 01-04 2L diesel one but any advice on any model would be welcome plz :D

I have had a Vectra estate not a problem with it at all exelent car very roomy, only thing to watch out for is the keys, they are transponder keys make sure there is a spare, about £100 to replace if not.

iv got an '03 2l diesel good car quite smooth and fast(ish),but the clutch and the steering rack are known faults-but having said that i taxid it and a few people i know used them so we done a higher than ave milage ,if its just gonna b a more 'normal' milage then i think theyr a great car (just dont use it as a taxi)btw after 03 i think it came with a 1.9 cant say about that but its not very powerful i drove one and wasnt impressed not very torquey which was important when ure moving a lot of weight .so in theory its a great car to drive but i wouldnt buy another now (cos they changed the engine ,but a 2l like iv got now -no prob id buy a new one of them );)

cuz has the petrol 1.8 elegance on an 03 and he hates it, one problem after another, he much prefers his 1998 transit 2lt diesel.

Umm, never owned a vaxhuall but I tell ya I would consider a skoda, made with VW parts, same factory just different badage and cheaper to run, ect....I would get one if was going to get a newish car, but to be honest I see cars as runabouts, and don't drive any great distance in them now.

I may get a tranist, at some point for the above reason cheap, and plentful!

yeah I've been looking at a few cars, i had a go in my mates vectra on friday, its the 1.8LS petrol one same shape as the one i want and i loved it.

bearing in mind I'm going from old bangers to my first modern car, meaning having power steering, ABS and so on, i have a pug 106 diesel at the mo but i only bought it as a cheap winter hack with the intention of selling it around this sort of time and getting a nice car

get a diesel,dont get a petrol,,its much btr engine /gearbox in the diesel ;)

oh yeah, i think I'd go bankrupt if i bought a 2l petrol :smt042

i can get 65+MPG out of my pug and 50MPG is my average (abit of a led foot:lol:)

Mine is a 2006 1.9 SRI150. I got it because I was p'eed off with Mondaos having had 4 previously.

Big mistake.

It is tinny, does not feel solid. The turbo lack is horrible, very reminiscent of 1980s rover 218 diesels. Suspension and steering are vague, leaving you with the feeling that is going to let go when you push a bend.

I get about 40mpg out of it. But it seems to run out oomph about 115 and then crawls upto about 130 and thats it no more go.

Worse issue is the indicators, manual cancelling just does not work, you put on the rh indicator to overtake, then left to pull back in. When you try to cancel you turn back on the rh indicator. I payed an extra 500 quid for built in sat nav that is 3 years out of dat. does not have speed cameras, postcode locations.

Paint is thin and easily chipped. Wiper motor and linkage had to be replaced after 28,000 miles.

Next car will be another Mondao or whatever Ford replace it with. I have had two Vauxhalls previously. an 8 year old Viva in the 70s and a 1 year old Chevette in the 80s. This was my first and last brand new Vauxhall. I had hoped quality, comfort and performance had improved. Alas they still have a long way to go.

We have a fleet agreement with Vauxhall at our company to supply all the vehicles - everything from Corsas to Signums and vans. Generally the feedback is ok - nothing great, but a reasonable car, although I would say avoid the 2.2 diesel as we had a very high number of them which would default to a 'get you home mode' on the ecu for no apparent reason - not good at 80mph in the outside lane! A lot of cars went back and were apparently fixed, but it still happened - in the end they took it off the company car list.
Ive had a couple as pool cars - the diesels (2.0dti was ok, 1.9cdti better especially the 150 bhp version) but personally found the pertols a bit gutless, jerky and very uneconomical.
Another thing is that with the torque, the diesels did tend to go through front tyres - most were being replaced at or before 10k miles. Mind you, I don't think that is a detriment to the car, possibly just the torque and maybe the standard fitment tyres.

Had a '99 (T plate) Vectra 2.0 DTI estate. Good family car. Economical and not sluggish. Only real issue was that the enigne was very unrefined compared to it's peers such as the Passat and Mondeo.

Only problem I had with it was fuel line seals which allowed some air into the fuel pipes from time to time, meaning that you would have to turn it over for about 30 secs to re-prime the system. That cost about 80 quid to have fixed. Apart from that, no bother at all.

A friend of mine had an 02 (I think), it dumped a tank of diesel on the M40 due to a split HP fuel pipe.
At 3yrs and 40k mls it needed a host of suspension bushes replacing and the aircon failed.
The handbrakes come off on their own too, so don't park on a hill and always leave in gear.

Get a Skoda or Honda and sleep easy.

tbh, i don't think diesels are all they're cracked up to be with the old fuel consumtion vs price of diesel and petrol atm (about the only advantage i've seen cost wise recently is on the road tax).

if you like the mondao, then get a mazda 6, come out the same factory pretty much, but a slightly better car (get a test drive, they are good!).

my dad had a company car vectra a few years back. was a good mile muncher and only problem we had was with the turbo pipe coming off twice (a known problem i think), inside build quality not great, but not a bad car in all. he's just got a new honda accord. seems great, but he's only had it for a few weeks.

don't get a skoda, they should be banned ;) lol

my 106 is fantastic for fuel economy, i only put in 10 quid every time i fill up and that gets me between 120 - 150 miles, but i agree with you that modern big turbo diesels are not all they're cracked up to be, but unlike back then I'm not really worried about MPG to much as I'm in a better situation financially than i was when i bought the car.

i remember hearing about the hand brake problems on the corsa's, i think they sorted it now but i cant remember :-?

People may laugh @ the skoda but its comes out very good in the tests, they r just cheap great cars. The fact skoda make great rally cars says enough I think, if it bothers people why not de-badge the car?

My Dad has jus spent 1780 on fixing the gearbox in his automatic. During this period he had 2 new radiators. Nuff said!

Vauxhall through the DVLA sent out advice to make sure the handbrake is properly applied with a sticker to put in your window.

My experience is that when you pull it up , you can find it doesn't latch and you have to pull it up again. I have always left cars in gear but I can imagine they have had a run away or two.

I work for a breakdown company .....

Vauxhalls ... run away !! always breaking down ..go for a Toyota avensis or Skoda octavia :D

Owned vauxhalls for the last 7 years and apart from a few niggles with an engine converted car i've not had any issues whatsoever............

In fact, our VXR has been abused, and not had 1 problem. 20k servicing.

1.9 DTI engine is a peach, but only in 150bhp form. But its much better in the astra, less weight to pull, veccy is a big big.

You want the V6 derv ;)

I have a Toyota Avensis D4D 2.0 Diesel,it has never missed a beat.My friend has one as a taxi 247k on the clock and it still a flyer.

I do a lift share in my Focus 1.8Tdi, it uses less fuel than the other two cars; either the 1.2 Fiesta or Golf (albeit the old 2.0gti) by a long way and I drive it harder. Even regarding the price difference it's worth it.

Couldn't agree more. Did 200 miles in a 57 SRI 1.9 Diesel today. It was frickin slow as, and the fuel readout was 48 mpg, real mpg was nearer 38. Great boot and pretty comfortable though :)
I had it packed to the rafters with C190s ;) (for the squaddies)
