Simple and silly question!
Where do you mount your TD holder? Mine is on the swing arm and the disc gets wet at this time of year.

Front wheel on the right which is apparently not allowed. :)

I have been tempted to laminate it but the fear of the wacking great fine for not displaying if you got a jobs worth police person is to much for me.

That's where I've got mine.
Is there a good, water tight holder I can get?

Mine is tight, no water gets in at all and it has a nice rubber seal. Strangely it doesnt get condensation or anything.

I couldnt tell you the make though as I have no idea.

I caught that but was using the abbreviation. Let me re-phrase, what is a Tax Disc? We don't have these in the US and I am assuming that it is proof that you have paid your taxes on the bike but was looking for clarification.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a TD?

In this country, when you pay your Road Tax, you get a little circle of paper ticket to display to prove it - I believe over with you guys its either a new rear plate, or a sticker on it depending on state?

Yup

Is the tax we pay over here so we can go on the road - problem is, none of it ever seems to be spent on the roads. :-?

Thanks for that! And yes, we get a sticker each year which is placed on our licence plate.

Nope, they're supposed to be displayed on the left of the bike, or so I'm told. I'm not sure of how serious an offence it is, afterall, you're still in theory displaying a valid tax disc somewhere. I did once apon-a-time find a document that even said it had to be on the front-left side of the vehicle, regardless of classification. But I've no idea where that was, or if it was an accurate document.

Mine is on the left fork, just where the mud guard on the front wheel bolts to the fork.

Tax disc is supposed to be on the side of vehicle nearest to pavement when parked facing direction of traffic flow. Or something like that.

So where's your car tax disc holder? On the front (bottom left corner of the front window), right? That's not the side nearest to the pavement!

Cheers guys.
So the conclusion is that I should probably leave it where it is and get a better holder.

Umm yes it is?
parked on left hand side of road, facing with the traffic, left hand side of car is next to pavement.

*edit* Unless you are one of those furriners who drive on the wrong side of the road

AndyW, you obviously missed the point.

The front window is on the front of the vehicle, if it were legislation (and I'm not saying it is) that the tax disc had to be on the "side nearest the pavement" then this would be the left side of the vehicle, not the front.

Pedantic I know, but hey, I'm waiting for some emails to come in. :)

It's supposed to be on the front left hand side of the bike, in front of the engine. A great deal of leniency regarding this is given, however, on account of fairings etc. often making this impossible. I've never heard of anyone being done for displaying it elsewhere, even on naked/semi-faired bikes (where there's less of an excuse). Personally, I put mine behind the pillion pegs on the LHS. Visible from the kerb and much more crash proof than on the side of the radiator (don't want to damage my lovely ?25 carbon fibre TDH ;)).

I very often miss point entirely (sometimes delibertaly), however,
the position of tax disc is offical legislation.

I could actually try and find the piece of legislation and exact wording but that's too much effort  Display your tax disc

Display a tax disc on the passenger side (kerb side) of the vehicle?€™s windscreen. If there?€™s no windscreen or you have a motorcycle or sidecar, display the tax disc on the kerb side of the vehicle.
The tax disc cannot be transferred between vehicles.

*edit* Ok currently very bored at work so...
(highway code)
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). All motor vehicles used or kept on public roads MUST display a valid Vehicle Excise Duty disc (tax disc) displayed at all times. Even motor vehicles exempt from duty MUST display a tax disc at all times.

Not exhibiting licence

(1) A person is guilty of an offence if—
(a) he uses, or keeps, on a public road a vehicle in respect of which vehicle excise duty is chargeable, and
(b) there is not fixed to and exhibited on the vehicle in the manner prescribed by regulations made by the Secretary of State a licence for, or in respect of, the vehicle which is for the time being in force.

At this point I give up, I can only take so much terminal boredom...

Front LHS, using the bolt where the brake line clips on.

Didn't know it was illegal there, and it just passed it's MOT that way, so all good!
