Nope. The japs just use letters to feel good. Ducati use numbers, followed by a letter.
If SV does stand for something, what does GSXR stand for

Allegedly it stands for Suzuki Vtwin, according to some Suzuki marketing bod.

Matt Gran Sport eXperimental Racing....
The Japs have been using acronyms for years. Back in the 80s Suzuki introduced TSCC (twin swirl combustion chambers) and proudly embossed it on cam covers. My dad asked my mate Gus what it stood for, his response - "Town and Suburbs Cowboy Cruisers", my old man wasn't sure whether to believe him or not so didn't push it any further. This was the same mate who put "F.I.T.S" stickers on his 350LC forks - no-one dared ask what it stood for in case they ended up looking stupid, so I ventured the question. Again he came out with a classic - "Foot In The Spokes" brakes.

Sports V-twin, as written on the TLS and TLR only the SV wasn't regarded as sporty when compared to its bigger brother/sister.
super vast - thats vast..yep very vast.

So what did TL stand for then, if SV stands for Sports Twin but only the TL got those stickers :D
Pretty unconvinced by the GSXR explanations there... The GSX ranges weren't particularily eXperimental were they? Sure, teh Katana was pretty out there but the first GSXs were the 250 and 400 if I've got this right, and they were pretty much just an evolution from the GSs. Seems more plausible to me that Suzuki started out with their GS nomenclature then added exciting sounding letters afterwards as and when they felt the need.
err so would the likes of ZX-R mean and CBR mean then???

According to WikiAnswers, home of many wrong answers, CBR is Cross Beam Racer. But I reckon it's another "add an exciting letter", after the CB. What does CB stand for? Don't know
"What do we carr, new motorcycre boss-san?"
"Carr it same as last one, but stick 'R' on end, that will fool johnny-lound-eye"

SV - Suzuki V-Twin
GSX-R - Got Something X-Rated
CBR - Can Be Red
CBR-RR - Can Be Red - Realy Red
ZXR - Zebra X-ray
DRZ - short for Docter Zed

ZX-R?
Well, it starts of the original Z's and goes onto GPz AND GPZ (and means Grand Prix) - then the GP got dropped as old hat.....but the Z was kept cos' it sounded cool  and had history..........why the X? it also sounds "cool" (and they also made some GPX models. briefly!).........and now we come to the "R", which accross brands used to get tacked onto the end of a bike name to show that this was a "sporty model" and was "Race bred", ie GPZ1000RX (or was that a GPz1000RX??!) and GPZ750R (not to be confused with the earlier GPz750 - which also had a Turbo model - not as fast as the name suggests, but very comfy!)........for reasons of brevity and boredom the "R" move before the CC number.
Dunno where the Hyphen comes from..........

Haha, when I got my bike I noticed that SV on drains everywhere.
I know that the 'RR' at the end of CBR 600/900 RR stands for Race Replica... but can't for the life of me remember what the beginning bit stands for.
Honda car wise I know that CRV & FRV stand for Complete Recrational Vehicle and Family Recreational Vehicle respectively.
