Well now I decided to try a different Internet browser. After testing out Opera for a couple of weeks, I decided I liked it and would stick with it. It is set as the default browser but when I click the link to my hotmail emails via the msn link, IE still opens up. I decided it would be an idea to uninstall IE therefor leaving only one Internet browser available.

What then happened is XP would not recognise any Internet links and asked me to select the program which would open them. No problem I thought I'll tell it to use Opera as default. I did this and it worked fine. However I had to do this every single time I clicked on a link. Even the same one as previous.

Me being a bit thick on the computer side of things, decided to reinstall IE thinking that maybe Opera uses so of the files that IE does. I've reinstalled it but even then I still have the same problem when clicking links in emails. I have to reselect which program I need to open the link. I need to do this everytime.

Is there anyone out there that can help me :?:

Gah - sounds messy.

I've heard loads of people have trouble after trying to rid a PC of IE, its that heavily meshed into the OS it doest like it being played around with, and is relied on by loads of stuff, specifically hotmail and MSN Messenger.

Have you checked your file associations - like what it thinks .html or .htm (.php etc) files should open with?

From your hard drive root (C: - whatever) try Tools - Folder Options - File Types and check that all of the internet extensions are properly associated with a program (whichever one you want to use)?

Then I'd try in IE - Tools - Internet Options - Programs - Reset Web Settings.

Next time, don't try to remove IE - you'll never win!

That one but also in Opera there should be an option somewhere to check to see if your browser is the default and if not to make it the default.

Those two things should hopefully sort it.

Tried all the above. The one that worked was resetting web settings. Thank you. :thumleft: I shall also heed the last bit of advice even though I had already come to that conclusion.
