View Full Version : Just finished fitting my new bars

I have been in the shed/garden all day fitting my new top yoke, renthal bars, new accelerator cables and HEL brake lines.
Took a while removing all the old stuff which I did the other day (the switch gear and cables) I finished removing the top yoke today (had to buy big socket to fit that top nut)
The accelerator cables were a nightmare to get off and on the throttle cam/bodies, took the best part of an hour, but got there in the end. (cut nearly every knuckle lol )
The new brake lines look good but they are a bit too long and I'm not happy with how they are sitting, I'll think of something (any suggestions)
I had to modify the master cylinder bracket a little bit (love my dremel) and it fits quite nice now.
I need to buy some new bar end nuts and bolts as the one I got off the clip-on do not fit into the new bars. (Typical)
Still need to add brake fluid and bleed brakes, add bar ends then all finished.
I have taken a couple of pic for you all to have a look at.

I didn't take any whole bike pics so I'll take some more pics when I add brake fluid and bleed the brakes as the bike is locked away in bed at the moment.

hey DD well done that looks great :)
I've just done the opposite to my naked.
Yours looks weird but I am sure that is just because it's unusual. Shame you had to have a silver top yolk instead of that nice black one.
I've just noticed the way you have your control cables wired. They don't go round the front and though the forks. Do they not get trapped when going from lock to lock on the steering :?:

Yes it is the same as BluePetes, he gave me the link so I could buy the bits and do the same to my bike.

Thanks

Looks weird to me as well but then I have only just done it. I though the same about the top yoke but it ties in very nicely with the silver frame and bar risers and I quite like it being silver.

The german instructions say to do it that way and no nothing gets trapped or pinched.
The only thing I'm not happy with is the brake lines by the lever.

Only tried it in the garden as no brakes for the road but it feels good when just sitting on it.
How easy was it getting the tank and airbox off?

was quite easy once I had looked at the haynes manual.
why, you thinking off taking yours off??

Yep, can doing the taking it off its just the putting it back together i'll be unsure of and would rather a manual to help me. Just put up a thread for the sv thou Haynes manual as i can't find one anywhere .
Although i can't imagine its too different to the 650

I can give you a hand if you want, as 2 heads are better than one.
Ahh nice one. Its just with me having the bike backfire through the airbox its seems to have caused the bike to drop revs for a few seconds when i stop. Wouldnt mine trying to find the restrictor kit on it too but not sure where the inlet blade is.(i think thats what restricts it)

Did the throttle cables come as part of your kit or did you get them elsewhere? I've just put some Renthal bars on a K5 and I definately need longer cables. The ones off the naked bike are only fractionally longer and have different throttle tube ends, I've got them but before I change the throttle tube I thought I'd see if there is an alternative.

yes the longer cables came as part of the kit, pain to fit though.

Thanks, next question - where did you get the kit, obvious move is for me to contact them and see if they will do me just the cables. Cheers, RH

Just having problems fitting bars to my SV.
I bought Renthal Streetfighter bars because I'd read you didn't have to change any cables.. what lies! Ive also heard that renthal lows work, but there so similar to the streetfighters?!?
New throttle cables and front brake hose plus re-routing everything not through the forks (I don't think it'll pinch) is the only solution it seems.
http://www.speedycables.co.uk/ (http://www.speedycables.co.uk/) said they'd make a new set of throttle cables for me with an extra 2 inches for about £30 and I guess a new front hose is about £60
I have an SV650 N K6
