...would you spend...

on a watch?

Is it something you just use to tell you what time it is? is it a statement about who you are, or is it simply a fashion icon, or a way of flashing cash you may/may not have?

Nothing.

I don't wear a watch, ever, or any other kind of jewellery (except for in my piercings:D)

I paid too much for my watch according to the missus, even though it was < half price!

Thinking of changing it soon but not sure what to get, I don't cultivate money trees alas, but I do like a nice watch!!

I brought a TAG in new york a couple of years ago. It was from a big horrible man who approached us. I felt obliged as a toursit to buy this watch or eat the pavment.

As to say it cost me 20 dollars and when i got home, i got a mate to check it out.

It was a fake! Not that i didint know that already but i thought i might get lucky and it was stolen in a robbery or something!

I've a BVGLARI, last service was £300, needs another one and a new winder...
It's now in a draw... :-( as it's on British Summer time, when do the clocks go forward ;-)
saving up now.

haha, i like the link censorship too:D

surprised to find so many people on here and in my msn contacts who have a thing for watches

makes me feel that pehaps £350 isn't as morally wrong as i first thought

not that that will do much good for the CC balance...

I don't wear a watch, used to until I got a tanline on my wrist where it had been  I use my mobile phone instead, works well enough. I don't understand the need to spend so much money on a piece of jewelery (unless its a wedding ring or something) that's probably gonna get broken/stolen/lost  Why do you chaps need to spend so much money on them? If its a diving watch I could understand but they all do the same thing at the end of day...

Can think of much better things to spend the money on, like a bike test :D

I have 2 watches. 1 for work which i rarely wear as it just gets in the way, that cost me less than a tenner from argos and the 2nd watch is my anyother time which normally equates to rarely being worn and i paid about £50 for that one

My £15 timex explorer watch is the best I've ever had. It tells the time, and if you press the winder in it lights up.

just spent a tenner on one to stick on the top of my brake reservoir thingy, i thought that was a bit much. use my mobile the rest of the time though..

Cant justify the expense. For me they are a pointless peace of equipment. Whenever I need to know the time I either have a computer in front of me, an oven, a car or bike, or a phone. I doubt if I really need to know what time it is for times I dont have one...

I have had my Casio MTG-520 for 4-5 years. It's a metal cased analogue/digital G-shock which was just over £100.

My previous watch was a really nice Guess watch that I was given for my 18th but I broke it after 3 years when I fell off my 125.

I use it to tell the time and it looks nice, but not really expensive nice. Plus it has black light LED to light up the watch in the dark which is cool...

I usually have at least one other device on me to tell the time (phone, MP3 player), or I am in the car/bike which has a clock. Consequently, I have absolutely no idea where either of my watches are, as I haven't worn either for about 8 years.

Dont need a watch - my phone does alarms etc, and the bike has a clock on it.

hmmm, looking at the replies-far too much i think..... (?1000), Rado jubile, ceramic- should i have bought another bike? but in my defence, it was with the money my grandfather left me in his will and i wear it 24/7.

interesting mix of opinions...

ebay got the better of me last night, and i ended up buying a new Seiko

to justify it to myself at least i saved £325 off the high street price, and more than £200 off the cheapest price i could find anywhere else on the interweb

and no, it's not from user "meruvurongtime" shipped from hong kong;):p

I like 'shiny' things !!

I have promised myself a Rolex (NOT an obscene jewel encrusted one though) before I die - a ridiculous amount of money to spend on something that just tells the time - but I like them, so there !!

Lots. I've been looking at several recently however it's been put on hold as im going travelling first.

Omega Seamasters / Rail masters Automatic watch with a see through back about £1000 - 1500

IWC (Anything IWC dribble from about 1k)... But this one is very nice http://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/images2/watch_images_pages/pages/iwc_portuguese_automatic_iw500107.htm but at £4.4k it can wait a bit longer...

One day, I will have a nice watch collection. Just for the engineering that has gone into such a precision piece.

I've got a Raymond Weil that's about the thickness of an After Eight mint. I think that they made them so thin to make it hard for counterfeiters. Argos did a cheap Accurist knockoff that was about three times thicker. I bought it in the early 90's with some money the my mum gave me after my dad died. I haven't worn a watch for years so it's been sitting in a drawer. I really should get it serviced and the battery changed.

I have a Tag Heuer Monaco, the Steve McQueen version. Got it for my 16th birthay from my dad.

Unfortunately i don't wear it that often as i have a history of breaking watches. :)

It comes out whenever i have need to dress smart/formally and yes it makes me more of a man! ;)

Are they presents and so have some sentimental value? Why don't you sell them and use the cash for more worthwhile things? Mind you, suppose you don't need to if you haven't already :money:

The more pricey one was a 21st birthday present from the very generous and super-rich ex-girlfriend I had at the time (who is still one of my best friends). The other I bought myself just after I kicked my ex-wife out, to remind me what it was like to spend lots of money on something I'll never use and not have to answer to anyone for it. I could never sell either, no matter how skint I have been, and believe me I have been there.

fairy nuff :)

So what is it with spending copious amounts of money on materialistic items? I can never understand why ladies spend so much on handbags (who spends ?600 on a purse :-s) and accessories...shoes however I can understand :D

Bikes are a different matter. I have 6 and would sell any of 5 them if the price was right - I'm keeping my 250 though.
