Not sure, surely you would have to pay and import tax. Thats expensive anyway... I payed $71 for mine, but I did have to go "abroad" to get it.
Dunno, Leathermans are cool though.

I don't know how he can 'guarantee no tax or duty'. Unless he's already smuggled a load in to the UK.

It could be marked as a gift, which would get around that.....
Yeah I have a leaterman wave, awesome piece of kit I got mine in the US for about $60/70 years ago, its probally one of the best tools I have, I used mine in previou job all the time. I don't use it work now, casue someone will steal it. They took my led light, which was a gift.
not *really* illegal.
you run the risk of paying tax which he is taking the risk of by guaranteeing to refund it.
Yeah so he's probably naughtily marking it as gift and/or under declaring the value.

I love them. Best multitools by a country mile and vastly more robust than swiss army knives. I often carry mine on my belt when I'm doing DIY (so it's always to hand if you're up a ladder, etc.) and have never had a problem when out in public with it. I figure if I'm in paint covered jeans and an old jumper, wearing workboots and with knee pads on, it'd be a bit of a stretch for them to try and get a court to consider it was being carried as a weapon, rather than a tool. I'm even tempted to get one to replace the cheap imitation one that currently resides under the seat of my bike. Surprisingly useful number of tools in something that takes up so little room.
They're too useful to get embroiled in this nanny-state nonsense over.;)

To be honest both are equal in quality and build and i take either one away on exercise.

I bought some bits from yanky land last week and didn't pay a penny of tax, and it wasn't marked as a gift or anything.

Up to 3 inches of cutting edge is totally legal in a folding knife, but I think the Wave is slightly too big, could be wrong... It was designed to work with a bigger blade. My old leatherman is legal though. You can, if you've got a blade that's too large, grind the cutting edge off the hilt end to reduce the cutting length and make it legal easily enough, my big opinel is cut like this and I was carrying it when I, er, got arrested :smt075
I just paid for the same one from the UK for ?70. It is ?120 at Snow & Rock
Leathermans are a waste of space. All it is is a Swiss army knife with a pair opf pliers. Never liked em, never will!
Getting back to the original question, he's prepaid the tax as his end. Works out cheaper and it comes in as duty paid.
