Well my insurance is about to run out and i'm getting ready to bend over and take another humping so thought i would attempt to limit the damage by researching good insurers.
Anyone recommend one? It will be a straightforward policy for one bike.
Cheers!

I always find a good deal with www.cia-insurance.co.uk...
If you fill out the internet insurance form with a few details and wait a minute or two one of the lovely phone staff will bell you...:-D

CIA were appalling when I dealt with them, they offered a good price but they did it by never actually giving me the cover I'd paid for, actively misselling the policy, then making it incredibly difficult to get my money back (and I work in financial services so I knew what I was doing, Joe Public would have had an even harder time). Leaving aside the misselling/fraud, they also broke their own promises every time I dealt with them (we will respond within X days, actually, no we won't). It was just lucky that I didn't have to make a claim, because it would have been a legal nightmare- I requested and was promised a policy that'd cover my mods (which make up more than half the value of the bike) but discovered at a later point i was only covered for base value/ return to standard.
That was about 3 years ago, they might be better now. But I go with Carole Nash these days, they're not as cheap but they've never gone out of their way to rip me off, and to my knowledge they've never lied to me. Also, their breakdown service is very good.

Express Insurance!
They have beaten every other insurance company for the second year running, and on top of that, I have 2 years no claims protected! Something no-one else would even offer! :)
To give you a guide, it included:
- Pillion Cover
- Legal
- 90 Days Green Card Cover to Europe
- 3rd Party insurance on ANY other bike
- Includes commuting
- Fully Comp.
This is with me being 22, only had my license and bike for 2 years, and also with 3 points... ?375!
Bargin! :)

One thing i've never understood is when buying a policy they ask you the value of the bike/car but when it comes to paying out they go with market value. Whats that about?

carol nash. Always been with them. got a good muti bike policy with them. Im Indoors went to them when he insured the raptor last year. But, just make sure they take the right reg number, as we have both found they **** up from time to time. When I first went with them they didn't put the right number on my 125 insurance, and he found the same when he insured the SRX this time, so effectively we both have ridden uninsured by accident for a few days.....oooooops.
But apart from this little hiccup, they've been very good
Hastings Direct.
Always blizted every other quote i've had, and had to claim twice and both times were done promptly and efficiently.
If they give me another good quote next time (not the letter quote, never take the re-quotes  ) then i'll be going back.

Give Direct Choice a go,
www.directchoice.co.uk (http://www.directchoice.co.uk/)
I've just got mine done, 3PFT, I just turned 25, 2001 SV650s, I have zero no claims, first bike and only passed DAS last oct. Im just over the bridge in Dunfermline. £75!!! (includes pillion, EU cover, use of other bikes etc and no silly excess)
Also:-
I added my dad when looking for quotes and the quote often came down (made a big difference for full comp)! It didn't change the price for this bike but it did on others I looked in to.

I may reconsider! When I had insurance with them I never had to deal with any claims etc. I was with Bennetts originally and had a claim, they dealt with it extremely well, but it's currently more expensive than most places...

yip £75!! I was shocked, im in a low risk area and keep it in an integrated garage, even Bennett's was only £96, and I have 3 points (4years old now though)
Makes a huge difference the area you are in, take a wee look at these links, I was an EH area until last month when I moved to a KY, so from worst Scottish area to one of the best.

Bikers living in the Cardiff (CF) postcode area are at the highest risk in Wales of motorcycle theft.
Bikes are 6 times more likely to be stolen from a public road and 5.5 times more likely from a car park, than from a garage.
No wonder my premium is going to be £100 more than last year - and that was insured in central manchester!

It depends wheter you want price or reputation.
This year I had a quote of ?55 from Bennets, but I paid double with Carole Nash instead because everyone says good things about them, whereas Bennets have been slated time and time again.

Get all of these quotes then go to MCE and tell them what your best quote was. They will beat it...

The grading in this is fecking ridiculous.
My postcode begins with SL (slough) which i guess means thats the area they use to make their calculations.
In reality i live a million miles from scummy slough and i'd say the theft risk is next to none.
I'm angry now. :p
