Grr, I can tell I've been back in the car too long.

I just never understand what goes on in their head. I remember even when they had those overhead signs saying "Keep left unless overtaking", and people still don't move into the left lanes!

I did read once that it was the person driving's fear that if they went back to the first lane, they may struggle to get back out to the 2nd to overtake again.

Also once read that it's because of a feeling of inadequecy if they are in the 1st lane.

Friend of mine taught me a fantastic game though, see how many laps you can do! If you come across one, over take him, then go to the first lane, let him pass, re overtake him, back to first lane, let him pass, rinse & repeat. I once got upto 4 times before he moved in! hehe

Maybe I shold just make up a sign to hold up to the window!

As I posted in the other thread really.

Assuming no plod, I like to go past in the left lane, just for giggles (as you said, sometimes they're in the middle because they're scared to move over).

Sometimes though, they're just lazy c-nuts!!

+1. It's not big or clever but hopefully it'll wake up the idiot middle lane hoggers.

Centre or outside lane hogging has to be my 2nd pet hate in my Most Annoying Habits of Other Road Users top 10 (the first being drivers who driver right up to the line at a junction or roundabout, stop, and then look right and left before moving off).

I have another which is bugging me more and more. Those who stop the flow of a main road traffic to let someone out from a side road!!!

I just carry on using the inside lane I was on...

90% of the middle laners are there because they are too lazy to go through the process of changing lanes. The rest are normally drivers who think it's the 'safe' lane. They do not have to go through the very tricky process of changing lanes to overtake the big scary trucks but traffic can still overtake on the right.

I too wish people wouldn't be overly courteous and let traffic out when the traffic they are in is still moving. It can be bloody dangerous.

Then there are those that do not have enough forward observations at roundabouts and insist on stopping at the give way even though it is quite obvious there is nothing to stop for.

wow that sounds like luton............
NO one give way to anyone........they would stay in stuck / very slow moving traffic, ruther than let some one in from a side road !!!!!!
sometimes even if they are trying to get out of their driveways!!!!
the mentality is no one give's me way so i wont etc.....
..is it me or is it i just like the frendly wave of thanks...

I hate that with roundabouts, people just don't get the idea that they are there to keep the flow of traffic moving, not a Stop and Giveway junction.

Its that 4/3 ways stand-off you get to where everyone doesn't know who to give way to the right first, I normally just go then while they are all there still thinking about it.

Ah, but if you were the one stuck for ages in a side road I bet you'd be swearing at the drivers for NOT letting you out!:p

I asked my dad who is 70.

He was always told that lane 1 (left) is for lorries, coaches etc, lane 2 (middle) is for cars and lane 3 or the "FAST" lane is for fast cars to overtake the other cars or lunatics like me apparently;)

There is a difference between allowing a vehicle out of a side street when the traffic is not moving all that fast and is congested. A different story when slowing from reasonable speed just to let a vehicle out. It's dangerous.

I HATE HATE HATE the stupid cnuts that come to a roundabout in the left lane and then instead of driving around it ,they just attack it in a straight line, cutting up the poor person in the inside lane.I love to hang just behind them on the inside and then whoop them with my airhorns.Talk about kak themselves.
Its **** like these that take out motorbikes just as were cranked over.

I don't mind slow drivers in the middle lane, as you just overtake them in the outside lane. Slow drivers in the outside lane however..........................

Never! I know that it's not my right to be let out when I should be giving way. The rules are there to keep the roads moving. ;) But then again I am a bit extreme.

That's a big hate of mine too at the moment. When I stay in the left lane to go straight ahead (in the car these days), I nearly alway have some twit shoot right up behind me because they have straightlined the round-a-bout. Oh, and the drivers who pull out on your left just as you pass to take the next exit and try and squeeze past on you left grrrrr.

I've got to the stage now that if I find some idiot sitting in the middle lane they get the full works of Lights, Horn, "Get The F*&% Out Of The Way" routine until they finall wake up and shift. It's inexcusable to just sit there, overtaking nothing and deserves my full wrath at every opportunity!

As Baph I overtake on left hand lane and look over and wave at them  Before though, I flash full beam at them.

Best bit of roads policing I have seen for a while was on M60, Was 'stuck' behind a middle lane hog as there was a copper behind me and the road was about to go down to 2 lanes from three. The copper nips past in his Rangey and illuminated his little matrix sign that said

"<-------- Use Correct Lane Discipline"

Said lane hog had a minor panic and moved over with alacrity! Shows the git knew he was in the wrong.

Me and copper had a little grin at each other as I went past.

Had a few of these knobbers on my ride home yesterday. had one old lady in her pink micra doing 58 in the outside lane, merrily driving along. The amount of lane hogging is mad, I don't like it but I get a little bit impatient and end up under taking them if its safe. If its not too busy they get stared at as I go past then swing back infront of them.

Another thing I hate is 80mph traffic jams, but I actually enjoyed one of them yesterday, getting to crank the bike fairly well over at high speed on dual carriageways :)

I don't go past on the left, just overtake as normal then pull in front of them (as close as I dare) then keep going left into lane 1. So all the other driver sees is me going past on the right, almost taking their nose off then pulling back into the left lane.

If you keep an eye on your mirrors as you do this it's surprising how many of these morons follow you into lane 1.

Just make sure you go past at least 10/15mph faster than they are going, so when you pull in front of them you are always accelerating away from them, otherwise you end up being the k-n-o-b that causes a motorway accident.

Overtake on the right and then move back into lane 1 and on my merry way. They probably were still asleep so didn't even notice me.
