View Full Version : First weekend on the 675
Well im grinning from ear to ear,
collected my new baby- daytona 675 2008 SE (special edition model) on the 8th march.
115 miles done in one weekend.
tyres are semi scrubbed in-running pirelli supercorsa as standard, and tbh the first 50 ish miles felt like i was riding on ice :( was NOT enjoying it one bit, even matt (treacle) said i looked tense- think combination of that the bike was v v new, new tyres and i wasnt used to it, took a break from riding it sat afternoon and was gonna put him away but then had a chat with treacle and thought id give it another go and oh my! im glad i did!!
Only complaints i can say is gearbox is quiet stiff and seat is solid!!, ive also got to look at getting it a tad lowered.
Have told treacle if hes a good boy (lol) he can take it out for me and im sure he'll let you guys know what he thinks to it!
Pics of it are now in photo section.

You only want Treacle to go out on it to get rid of the chicken strips!!
You only want Treacle to go out on it to get rid of the chicken strips!!
lol, have you been talking to him as thats EXACTLY what he said! :p, nooo hes a much more confident and better rider than i am, i trust him with it, ive still got the faithful old sv to go out on when he "borrows" it.
So how you running it in? Like Ed? or like book?
Probably something to be agreed before giving to Treacle? ;)

Already agreed, hes can take it on track when its been run in, and im kinda doing it by the book, i am being well behaved (for now LOL)

Nice one Paws. The riding on ice thing is normal, strange bike, new tyres, etc, etc. Only to be expected.

Nice one Paws.
Yes, it feels strange at first, new brake pads and discs as well as tyres etc so just bed it in for a couple of hundred miles. As for hard seat, just eat more pies :)

Paws, you need a gel seat.
I thrash mine - well sort of. It's peaked at 10K so far. Not bad for 170 miles:cool:
I just wish it would stop ****ing down and I could get on the damn thing. Yes of course I could ride it in the rain but the stock Supercorsas in cold and wet don't exactly inspire confidence. I'm listening to the org and I'mve decided to leave them on.

I just got new tyre's. I decided to go for Sport tourer ones as they are much better for road use, got pilot road 2's. Sports rubber isnt any good if its cold as itll never get upto temp... Might be partly why you get little feeling paws.
170 miles :(
Funny enough, I thought that the seat was really solid on the 675, but my friends liked it, yet hated my old car seats as they were too hard, yet I thought they were nice and soft  Work that one out.
Ahhh new tyres, ride like a lemon
Glad to hear your enjoying it.
All these people getting new bikes, I want a faster one now :(

TBH its almost a waste of time. Cant even rev out 2nd gear on mine without being into licence losing territory :(. Better to get a bike that can handle better if you were to ask my opinion, which was the main reason behind the new bike for me. Plus its easy riding, almost a twist and go.

same here mate, tyres are ok once theyve got some warmth in them :)

Thats what i want though and miss from the twin. Any revs, open throttle, off it goes.
With the IL4, unless im above 4k, it doesn't like it so much, come into 6k it starts to go, but by that point, the other bike/car/issue has already gone...
I like instant power. Hence the craving for that thou twin ;)

675 is hardly 2 stroke in its power delivery :-P
Glad you've finally got it paws, lovely bike, if I didn't look like an oversized muppet on one (and the money of course....) then I'd have one in a heartbeat.
The noise at full chat is awesome, even with the stock can on. Congratulations :-D

How long does your bandit take to get from 4k -> 6k!??? Surely we are talking less then a second? My old R6 had way more 'instant power' than my SV ever did, so it's not just about engine configuration!
Back on topic - Lovely bike Paws :D As Ed says Triumph do a gel seat for the 675 if it is a bit firm. I should be getting mine in a week now :) I can't wait! Stick with the supercorsas - I think that you'll be surprised when the weather gets warmer but it is true, they aren't really a wet/cold weather tyre.

Yes...go team R6.
That was the trepidation thing with SC pro's I was talking about in the tyre section. As soon as you take charge and show the buggers who's boss, they come alive. Treat them with kid gloves and they forever be laughing at you.
Give them a work out (in a straight line if you like) but brake hard and accelerate hard for about three miles and they'll get some warmth in them. They'll tell you when they're ready and kneel before you in submission.
Lovely looking bike by the way!

Nice one Laura. I wish I had the balls to stick with the tyres. My ones are already squaring off after 1000 miles! We need a mini forum on here for 675 owners.
Revving it feels so odd after running in but like someone said earlier it's so easy to get into license losing territory before getting the revs up :(.
With regard to lowering it can't you wear some heels?
How about naming it BA Baracus?
:)

Quickness of the revs doesn't mean anything if theres not that much torque around that rev area.
Thats why I like triples too. Not as much "umph" as a twin low down, and not as much "power" top end as an IL4, but its a good happy medium between the two.
R6's are known for needing the engine to be revved???
And tbh, comparing a screeming IL4 SS600 with a budget 650 twin isn't really fair. Theres much more "go" at a far lower RPM with the twin. You couldn't wind the throttle open at 2000-3000rpm on an R6 and have instant go, the twin will pull (for a second or so) but as soon as the revs rise the R6 will have gone.

You have clearly never ridden one!
Sure if you are sitting in 6th gear and you try that, then you are going to get anywhere very quickly, but any engine will labour if you let the revs drop?
If i wound the throttle on my R6 off the traffic lights, then the bike wouldn't creep forward until the needle hit 10k at which point it would rocket. The acceleration is instant.

Tbh im not scared of the tyres and did get some warmth in them, treacle will vouch for that ;), just waiting for abit better weather before i try and start scrubbing the edges further in.
I know when i test rode the test ride bike and got on well with the tyres once they were warm.

you not sticking with them?? i personally would, just take it a little easier than you normally would in this weather etc, thats all im doing :) i dont care about being ribbed about my chicken strips etc-im not gonna bin my new bike just for the sake of showing off.

Aye, its true, but i've seen plenty of power curves and plots to see where the power and torque is.
A twin wont at low revs, and that is the point. 1500rpm on the SV, it would pull and start to die off around 8k. R6, nothing at low revs, then get into the rev band, and off it goes.
Paws, i kept the triple theme in it, so it is in keeping with the post, we're jsut discussing other things in it. Its not hurting anyone, take a chill pill.
My SV was better in town than my bandit is for instant power. With an higer reving and higher state tuned R6 lump, the power is higher up the rev range. Its a well known fact R6's are no good in the city where low RPM's are everything.
Same for the triples, the 675 will have more torque at a lower rpm than the R6 ;)
Its like comparing a TDi car Vs a VTEC engine..........

.
please dont say stuff like that, no its not hurting anyone but it is annoying and is a derail from the original post! and then the post turns into a mass de-rail, so im nipping it in the bud now. thank you
(also dont tell a women who has a brand new bike sitting there awaiting a good hard ride to chill-esp as she hasnt been able to get out on it for a whole week now ;) )
Back on topic-today would be PERFECT day for me to be out on it again so i can let you guys know abit more about it-but im stuck at work :( , just hope it holds so i can go out tomoz on it!
Even the sv hasnt been used for over 2 weeks! :o
Paws, I'm in the same boat. But I rode in to work today (in 3 miles 3 cars pulled out in front of me, each time me with nowhere to go, BH this thing has sharp brakes:!:). Anyway as I'm the boss I've decreed that we're closing at 4 or 4.30 latest so I can go play:D

Its a new bike, new tyres, so don't bother trying to find its limits yet! If it were mine (and I wish it was!) I would be concentrating on not dropping it and scrubbing in the tyres for a good loads of miles before even thinking about wringing it's neck.

I've got the new ones on! Good as sold the others. I was taking it easy it's just I don't think they're suited to me. New ones still have naked bit and are plenty sporty. Turn in is noticeably slower but I'm absolutely fine with that. Don't forget I've only ever done 7500 miles on the SV and some on a tractor!
My gearbox feels fine. Might just be the difference to your other bikes. Of course I have missed neutral now and then. Keep an eye on your chain. Apparently they stretch quickly. Only adjusted mine once though.
:)

???? huh?? havent said im going to yet huni, im not daft! im gonna give the dealer a call tomoz and see if i can book it in with them to get it slightly lowered as id feel alot more confident when i stop etc, oh and im getting a gel seat put on it! lol

On my street triple(45 miles!!) I can only find neutral going from second to it. It's impossible to find from 1st for me!!
cheers huni :) im gonna take her over to triumph today as i need a gel seat and to see if they can lower her abit
