Hey guys,
After nearly 2 and a half years of owning the SV I finally got sick of the sight of those warning stickers and set about removing them.
I did some searching and went for the hairdryer method, but so far the results haven't been great. The plasticky covering came off the top of both of the stickers that I've tried so far (tank & top fairing) while I had the stickers about 1/3 of the way peeled off. The stickers have now ripped and the 2/3 of each one that are left behind refuse to peel away, they're coming off in little 1mm pieces, bloody frustrating!! :smt091 WD40 doesn't seem to be removing the gluey residue either...
Any suggestions please? :help:
Thanks
I'll get em off on saturday for you. Took mine of on the 650 dead easily.

If you've got the clear plastic off the top of the sticker, take a clean rag and diip it into petrol and then rub the rag over the top of the sticker.
The petrol will eat the glue and the sticker and you'll be able to peel it off the tank or if you rub hard enough the sticker will ball up and then come off piece by piece.
You can the use the petrol rag method to remove any excess glue off the paintwork.
Thats what I did with mine when I took them of the GSXR and it worked OK, took a little while to get them all off though. So you'll need to "stick" with it..

Thanks Fizz, I'll give that a go :D
Hopefully I can turn up at Girth's on Saturday with bike that's already nice & shiny  thanks for the offer though anyway mate
I think i just used my nails and scraped the little bleeders off, still need get them off the thou.
1. Boil kettle.
2. Pour on sticker.
3. Take sticker off and pour more on and use a lint-free rag to take the remaining glue off.
4. Admire better looking motorcycle. Less is more.
Works everytime metal, painted metal or plastic, old balance weight glue/foam on your wheels.

Keep going with the hairdryer it will work, afterwards to remove any sticky substance I use a dab of petrol on a cloth!

PETROL ON RAGE
Works wonders getting those stickers off.
There should be some petrol left in the jerry can in your garage or the inside of strechies jacket ;)

Yeah..
Pour the petrol on it, put something metal against it and then test your spark plug

When working on fuel systems it's important to keep a lit cigarette in your mouth, keeps you on your toes.

first problem is when the clear layer comes off first, this makes things difficult and is usually because the warning sticker is too cold at the time, heating up nicely with the hairdryer first usually stops this but if not then i found a plastic scraper and wd40 did the trick.

Ive used a hot air paint stripper very carefully to make them pliable enough to use a soft scrapper. Be careful not to damange tank paint work then use Auto Glyn Intensive tar remover to take away the sticky residue. Happy peeling

Took my tank stickers off today with petrol and boiling water...Left the fairing sticker down to boiling water as i thought petrol may begin to take paint off the plastic...??

get a bottle of lighter fluid and some clean rag. squirt the stickers, leave a few seconds and wipe with the rag. Attempt to lift sticker with your fingernail, the edge will come away from the paintwork.
repeat this until the sticker is completely detached.
works every time :smt045
