I know this was raised a while ago but Lidl have their £25 bike walkie talkie's available again. They wont be the best thing ever (and appartently they dont work well over 40mph (not that I would want to talk to any of you over that speed anyway) but they might be quite a good thing to have available on rideouts when we are trying to find people?

Anyone keen?

I wouldn't want to talk with any of you lot at any speed.

One arguement about these.

If you go out on a ride and you all have these - you end up with nothing to talk about at the stops/when you get there :)

Sounds like fun to me but I can see the novelty wearing off very quickly..

Slight derail - Would you trust one of their helmets to protect your beloved??

They're only ?25 so worst case scenario it goes in the bin!

I wouldn't trust one of those helmets, you can get more well known ones for ?50+. I bought one off husky recently AGV and it is surprisingly decent. They're not as good as my Arais, but for 20% of the cost i can't complain.

I'm still going to get a RX7/new leathers when the time is right.

25 quid isn't bad, let us know how you get on with them if you do get them. The most annoying part I can see is getting it to fit in the lid all snug and then trailing all these cables across yourself and the bike

KnightRider

I just thought that for 25 pounds they could be a laugh. It would also give us all something to do whilst we are waiting for TonyK to get his kit on ready to ride ;-)

I dont think I would want to use them when riding fast (and apparently they dont work at speed anyway) but at the points when we are in town trying to find our way then they could be useful.

If nothing else ASM and Ogden should get them so that they can spend time poking jokes at me!

Think I am going to get a set. If anyone else cant get to Lidl let me know and I will try and pick one up for you.

Jon

PS - I only want to get a maximum of 4 sets (including 1 for me) first come first serve.

I'm not sure whether a 25 quid intercom would have the range for me to be able to talk to ASM without stopping every 2 or 3 minutes to let him catch up.

Mark wouldn't be able to hear whilst going slowly through town as his exhaust would drown out the sound due to his first gear rev fest......

Now you're just talking rubbish! :p

I think the street extremes are loud, but i think the quality of exhaust note isn't great. Like most stubbys they are loud, but sound kack IMO. I actually prefer the sound of yours!

On the other hand i can still say that following Nick through a tunnel on his CBR with yoshi fitted, is the greatest exhaust sound i've ever heard!

N.B. If it was possible to follow myself, then obviously mine would be the best.

How sad is that ????

Tony, I'm on nights Monday so could help you **** the car drivers off in the tunnel if you like.

I'm thinking about the intercom. Could be an advantage possibly.

Just picked up one of the radios. Seems like a quality bit of kit, especially for the money. better than I was expecting to be honest. We;ll just have to see how well they work i guess. They have LOADS in the Oxford Lidle if they run out near you.

Bought some trousers too - they are better than my frank Thomas ones and 50 quid cheaper too - not bad.

My girlfriend is on her way to Lidl this afternoon. If you want her to pick one up for you then send me a PM NOW.

Jon

Disclaimer - I dont want to get too many so I will only get a maximum of 3 (first come first serve). If you PM me and request a radio then you confirm that you want the Walkie talkie purchased on your behalf and that you are willing to pay the ?25 that it costs me to buy it asap (ie at the next meet - no Nick_Numbers excuses please).

Aren't they made for flip front helmets anyway? All the pictures show them being used with one. I went to my local Lidl last night to get one but there was only one checkout open and 10+ fully loaded trolleys in the queue

Didn't bother in the end. If you guys manage to fit it comfortably in a full face helemt then i'll go back.

I've used a rider to pillion intercom before with the same mic system and it was OK. Just positioned the mic by my top lip, it was fine. I think they show the open face helmet just so you can see it, it still works with a full face.

Must admit that I am pleasently suprised with the radio. Thought it was going to be a cheap plastic toy suitable for small children. In reality it seems quite well built and thought out.

We will have to see how it works out on the road. Also the push to talk function (as opposed to VOX) will probably make the whole experience more enjoyable as you actually have to press a button on the handle bars to communicate.

Now I just have to find a way to use it with my own earphones!

Have you got two, to check it actually works?

You're within 5 miles of me, so in theory you should be within range - I'll leave mine on channel 1 ctcss 0, see if you can make contact.

That's never going to work cause channel 0 is blatently going to be used by anyone turning their radio on for the first time. We should also turn ctss on (0=off) to remove all the crap that everyone else is saying.

I vote for a differnt channel - try channel 7 ctcss 17.

I'll leave it on till 12.00 but am off out after that. Will be back at around 6pm if you want to try it later.
