Possibly. Who knows? They played France off the pitch though.

They still haven't won the Rugby World Cup though!!!!

It was more of a case of France playing terribly! Anyone would have looked like New Zealand if they played a team that played as poorly as France did.

Text I got from my housemate:

"Wales. Wales wales. Stick your effin garlic up your ar$e." 8-[

I don't tend to really follow rugby, except when Wales is playing, just because the world tends to stop here when there's a match on

Whilst i'm upset that France lost and particularly with how they played, i do find consolation with the fact that France are one of the two northern hemisphere teams that can actually beat their southern hemisphere counterparts.

The other team isn't Wales.

Perhaps Wales were just the better team this tournement ? shock horror :o

Wales have had the best deffence, and best attack this year. Plain and simple. They have been able to take chances when presented to them, and make their chances when not gifted to them... as well as having a rock solid defence thats only leaked two trys all tournement.

And to add to that, we havent even played that well at all, we were crap against England, did OK against Italy and Scotland, had a stormer against Ireland, after playing with only 14 men for 20 minutes.. and put France away.. the same France that beat the All Blacks a few months ago in the same stadium.. granted, they have a coach that changes his team more than his underwear now !

as for that other team in the Northern Hemisphere.. well it might just be us.. we've beaten Australia in 2006, and our second team coached by officialy Wales' worst coach almost beat them in Oz last year...

p.s. Inverdale should be shot, or at least banned from being a BBC presenter.. talk about one sided and biased ! there isnt a pub in Wales or Scotland or Ireland that probably hasnt got someone that hates him !

As much as it pains me to say it, the second team is England.

As long as all the blooding of youngsters comes to fruition in the future(IE win a world cup) then i can tolerate Frances poor results until then.

I've been going along to wasps matches for the last 7-8 years and i know too well the value of Gatland/Edwards. They have certainly done well with Wales thus far, although i wonder how much more there is to come from them?

Overall they've been the best team in the tournament this year, but i still really doubt if they can beat southern hemisphere teams with any regularity.

As for France there have been flashes of brilliance(mostly involving Clerc/Heymans/Malzieu), but i think the fundamental problem is that our forwards are too small physically. Its not just England that have a massive pack, most teams do now. I think are front 5 are poor in comparison to other countries. The back row is decent enough.

If i were coach( :) ), then i would play Elisalde at half back with Skrela/Beauxis. We have enough flair in the back line that we really just need someone with a good boot at 10.

As a final thought the French coaching staff realy need to ditch those turtle necks. :p

Sour Grapes dude, the best team won on the day. Take with good humour, same as I do all the biased supporters saying we lost it,Wales didn't win it. England, then Ireland and now you are not willing to admit you were beaten by a better team on the day.

Wales won and credit to them. Its no excuse to say that your own team played poorly to allow Wales to win as either way the losing team was the worse team, end of.

Wales deserved it - only team that played well the whole tournament. Got to say though - France were pretty dreadful... Wales opened well, then there was a tedious bit where france seemed to lie on the floor in heaps while Wales stood and whatched - then Wales finished in style.

England seemed to spend the tournament alternating between really good and really really really bad. I vote a different commentor for their next Match though - the chap that was on and Cipriani should really get a room.

I don't see how i've exhibited anything that can be described as sour grapes.

France did play terribly. The forward play was slow and tedious and the backs really offered nothing. It was a really poor performance all around. Ever since Ibanez, Pelous, Magne, Betsen retired our forwards have been inexperienced and a bit lightweight. When you consider all the new players that have joined the squad and the wholesale changes Lievremont made game on game, its no surprise that we didn't have a good tournament. France have an obvious long term strategy and are building towards the next world cup.

France did lose as they were appalling, not because Wales were especially good. This is summed up by the Shane Williams knock on/interception try that decided the game.

I think there is definitely a case that England threw away their game versus Wales.

I also stand by what i said previously. At the next world cup i think only England/France will be in with a chance from the southern hemisphere.

and how is this not sour grapes? Can you not accept the way the game went, Shane scored fair and square in the referees eyes and that is the end of it. Still not seen the TV footage so actually have no idea what you on about - but the result on the day counts.

We WON you LOST!

I'm pleased to say the French fans sharing the stand with us were much more philosophic in defeat, as were the ones being the beers in the bar.

You seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that i'm on suicide watch.

I'm not disputing the validity of the Williams try, so i'm not sure why you've brought that up!

I have no problems with the result. If a team plays that terribly then they deserve nothing from a game!

I'm disappointed in the performance of France, but i'm in no way sour. I still fail to understand whats bitter about what i posted.

I think what the lads are trying to point out, maybe not about you, but other teams supporters in general.. is that there has been huge sour grapes by England, and Ireland, and now some French fans about us wining... the only ones not to complain so far have been the scotts and Italians.. as the Italians got thrashed by us.... and the scotts should have been thrashed by us...

there have been fans of the above teams who will go blue in the face before admitting the best team won... Irish fans are addamant that they should have won, and so England and some French... now, I hate to point it out, but Wales have just set a record of least amount of tries conceded in a tournament... plus like it or not, you can only play as good as the opposing team lets you.. and lets face it, Wales' defence has been by far the best this tournament.. maybe Wales just made France look ordinary with their defence ? didnt help the french were clueless up front, but even when they tried to play their running game it was nipped in the bud with some great tackles...

If France, England or Ireland had won the championship, we wouldnt be hearing the moaning thats been going on the past few weeks..

others complaining about teams being in transition, trying out new combinations... well, Wales had a new Coach, all the other teams bar France have established coaches in charge...
Wales performed the worst at the World Cup, bar Ireland.....
now 6 months down the road... whos standing where ?

Its a sore subject for us, as every time Wales do anything of any good... there are those who just like to say it was a bad championship... well, if Wales really were that mediocre, it doesnt say much about the opposition we have come accross so far this year does it ?

We have always had a team that can score against the best sides in the World... now we have a rock solid defence... in two years time, this Wales team will be going places.... everything starts somewhere... even England when at their very best only could win 1 Grand Slam.. why ? as by its very nature.. its a damned hard thing to do. Even when Wales and Scotland were crap and Ireland befroe they had O'Driscol, teams still couldnt win Grand slams without a hell of alot of effort.....

I still don't think that Wales can mount a credible world cup challenge. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong as its nice to see the southern hemisphere teams lose! However i don't think they can play much better than they are now and thats probably not enough to beat a southern hemisphere team, with any consistency.

Gatland is a great coach(i've been a wasps regular for 8 years), but he's always been a bit of a nomad. I guarantee he won't be in the job in 2 years time.

The tri-nations is a far superior tournament and its always been the case that even grand slam winners usually get thumped when they play the southern 3. Look at the lions, supposedly Britains best and they get drubbed regularly.

Finally i'm not complaining about Frances loss to Wales. We would have lost against Portugal playing like that. :)

WC is what, 3 and a half years away? gatlands with wales on a four year contract with a team that he can chop and change at his will... and it worked.

this year is the best iv seen wales play in a long time, 2005 GS could have put down to luck but (coz i cant remember that far back) with the WRU gettin rid of mike ruddock we will never know how good that team could have been under him. possible WC semi's...?

it takes a lot to get a grand slam, irrelivant to how the other teams play, you still have to win 5games, aint that easy.

personally i didnt think wales would have done it after last years WC n 6nations,even i was shocked but then i didnt wear my welsh top on any of their matches this year so thats how they won

as for england they have always been a good side with the likes of robinson and daglaglilio or what ever he's called but without the ppl to replace they wont be much of a force. as for vainakoulu (?) ok he's a big boy but he didnt do much after they hyped him up. this years championship was a good one, lets have the glory days back for a while then england can take over....maybe

you may have wilkinson but we have williams

(if any of that makes sense please let me know coz from what i know about rugger you could put on a stamp)

Its a shame when other teams drum down the winners performance by saying they should have won but were below par and so. Wales won, end of.

I'm English and proud of it but don't deny the Welsh success.

When England win or are even involved with anything there is no shortage of Welsh/Scottish jeerings, so live with it. Wales - just enjoy your win, don't worry about the moaners that's just a wound licking reaction, it's no big deal.
