Just spoke to one of the guys at Millenium in St Helens, they have back trading for three weeks now after being bought out by KJM group, apparently they are now main dealers for MV Augusta, Benneli, Ducati and cagiva on top of the usual Suzuki, kwak Yam and Honda, he asked me to put the word out, so I have ;)

Is this the same crowd went bust owing customer's thousands? Just wondering how come they 'back in business' and why they were not in business for a while.

Further more, where are they and what do they offer? (besides bikes)

Dont know about them owing money, but they have gone out of buisness a couple of times over the years, now bought out by KJM apparently from the Wigan area, Millenium,s up in St Helens and they used to offer sertviving partsd clothing and accessories etc.. I used to go there quite often, always found them friendly but a bit pricey. http://www.kjm.net/index.php

Is it the same guys still running the show at Millenium?

They sold my dad a load of gift vouchers the day before they shut up shop - they knew it was closing down but just took his money. He thought he was doing me a favour for Xmas so I could get a new helmet. The whole lot is worthless now & they refuse to honour them. Personally I wouldnt trust them as far as I can throw them.

I had a warranty repair outstanding on my bike too, they wont honour that either - the warranty has run out on the bike now so I got stuck with the repair costs.

You live & learn.

If they have reopened under the millenium name you would have a good case here, if they have opened under a different name then im afraid you have lost your money, bike, car dealers are prity much all dodgy if you ask me they are there for one reason and one reason only which is to screw as much money from you as possible. Just my opinion.

Just called this place and they are still trading as millenium motorcycles, as far as im they should honour your vouchers, if i were you id certainly be causing a stink about it and informing them that if they dont honour your vouchers you will be posting it all over the internet which wouldnt be good for business ;) the internet is a powerfull medium :smt023 let us know how you get on.

I remember this place, I went over there a few years ago to test ride an R6 and a CBR6. The CBR broke down mid ride and I had to phone them up to get them to collect me, the guy made it sound like it was my fault!

I agree with Mototech re. the vouchers being honoured.... i think a phone call to Trading Standards would be adviseable. They`ll tell your the correct way to go about this and if a letter is required they`ll tell you exactly how to word it. As Mototech suggested, use the threat of the internet and also once you mention you`re taking advice from Trading Standards you might find they back down. Best of luck

OK Here's the update...

I'm off all this week so I went up to Millenium this morning rather than just phone them. To say there weren't polite is an understatement. They wanted nothing to do with my vouchers "oh it's not our problem". To make matters worse it's the same staff serving behind the counter that actually sold the vouchers.

Yes they are trading using the old name but they want nothing to do with any previous committments. Technically & legally they are probably within their rights however it's not great customer service, you'd have thought the least they would have done was to offer a discount or something - surely a customer buying something is a better than no customer. I went in there with the full intention of buying a new helmet & more than likely would have walked out with a new jacket too - if they are happy to turn away customers spending ?600-700 then they wont last long.

Well, that's the last they'll see of me or anyone else I speak to - there's plenty of other places you can buy stuff from.

By all means go there if you want to pay over the odds, get bad customer service & risk not actually recieving the goods - each to their own. Sorry Stewie, but on this occasion I'm not with you.

Mike.

Mike i understand what your saying with regards to not buying there again but dont give up on the vouchers call trading standards and find out your rights, they will try and fob you off. Maybe its just me but when i get something like this im like a dog with a bone and wont give up. Id make myself such a pain in the **** they would pay the vouchers just to get rid :D dont give up mate.

+1

write to them, write to their owners, write to consumer rights groups. they'll pay I reckon. I'll not bother going there again for a start.

If you fancy really kicking off then just choose what you want and walk out with it vouchers at the ready! :-)

ps. you thought of writing to MCN?

And Mike's sorry tale is the exact reason they went tits up last time. Same staff working there? Jesus, some folks never learn!

The new owners have simply bought the stock & the trading name, they've not bought the debt from the previous company so technically they are in their rights to refuse vouchers, provide exchanges, uphold warranties/salesman promises etc.

What's not right is for a company to be so short sighted as to not see the damage they are doing by providing such a bad customer service.

OK they've lost me as a customer - last year I bought a new SV, new leathers and a few bits & bobs so I guess we are talking near ?5,500/6,000 - any company worth its salt would want that customer to come back this year, trade his bike up & buy more stock off them.

I'm a company director for a very large software house & customer retention is one my biggest targets. I just can't understand these guys, they aint going to last long in business.

Thay are not going to upset me, it's only money & I can spend that wherever I want. Meanwhile I'll carry on riding my SV (when I'm not driving my M3, lol) and I'll just take it elsewhere for servicing and buy all my stuff at the Honda place in Warrington or at JS in Northwich.

word of caution about JS in Northwich - they sell imported stuff mostly and their helmets do not meet British standards.....and if they do they are a few years old

25-03-08, 01:39 PM
OK, cheers for that. I didnt know you could buy a helmet without the gold British Standards sticker on it but I'll certainly check when I get round to buying the new one.

depending on how the other company went to the wall i didnt think it was possible to buy just the name and not have to honour debts for reasons such as this, i hear what your saying its better not to let them get to you but id do it out of principle and then never buy from them again, or use flymos tactis go to the clothing department pick up what you want and then when you pay for them give them the vouchers lol that would be interesting especialy if it was a saturday and the shop was busy.

FWIW - Some helmets meet the British Standard (or relevant EU standard) and are sold quiet correctly as meeting the standard. BUT the gold sticker is from the ACU (Auto Cycle Union) which governs motorsport and used to mean the helmet was of a higher standard. These days it probably just means you cannot ride on the trck with a helmet that does not have the ACU Gold sticker.

Quick update to my original post, went in the other day to enquire about a service for the curvey, its done 27,000 now so the next major service is 30,000, they quoted me £400 + vat for the job :???:, anyway I popped upstairs to have a look at the clothing and was told by the guy up there that the stock was the original stock that was there when they closed up shop, came away slightly less than happy this time. Anyway sorry you got ripped off Mikew, I had no idea that was the situation, btw if you are popping over to Wyder Honda sometime give me a shout.

Mike i`ve just spoken to a friend of mine who owns Orrell Park Motorcycles in Liverpool.. I mentioned what`s happened to you and he says that you must make that call to Trading Standards. KJM have taken over Millenium and bought the entire stock plus the trading name Millenium Motorcycles. Because they are stilll trading under the same name they are obliged to honour your vouchers, don`t let them get away with this, what they are doing is wrong. Stick to your guns hun.

Stewie the 30,000 service is expensive because its labour intensive the valve clearances need to be checked, spark plugs replaced aswell as the carbs syncd etc its the full monty which at stealer prices is alota wonga. ;)

£400 + VAT - what a complete rip off.

I use a main dealer and was charged £456 for that service - which also included a new rear tyre, sprockets and chain, plugs, and new coolant, as well as the oil and air filters.

Can't see then staying in business too long at those prices

Stew

Took my 650 to Millenium for a replacement seat panel last year and asked for a price for the 15,000 mile service which was due around that time, they quoted 'somewhere between £400 and £500, but nearer £500' for that service. No way was i paying that!

An independant should be charging £250/£300 all in.

Not so much shell-shocked m8 ... more just p*ssed off with the whole catastrophe. I'm sure anyone else would be the same ... you pay almost a grand to have your engine rebuilt, and 5 months later (and WELL outside the poxy 3 month warranty they gave me), it packs up! Then you buy another engine (assured it's a K3 - even phoned seller to double-check this!) and it turns out to be a K2 ... then the seller feeds you B.S after B.S until finally they get so sick of me phoning them constantly that they switch their phone off ... and I am left with a K2 engine (neither use nor f**king ornament to ME) and £500 out of pocket for my troubles ... although thankfully that seems to be on the way to getting sorted now!

Have always been pleased with any work you`ve done on either of my vehicles and I`m sure Pedro will back me up there.
Absolutely ... am more than happy to give mototech (Mark) a plug - he's done a bit of work on car & bike now, and am well pleased with all work carried out :D (another shameless plug cos he's gonna fit my engine if/when it turns up :-P)
