Mine went AWOL today, first I knew of it was applying the back brake at the end of a 100 mile jaunt, felt like the lever kicked back, then no back brakes and a solid lever.
Turns out applying the brake had caused the caliper to spin round, it was about level with the swingarm with the brake line stretched round the back of the swingarm.
What a git.
Anyone know the size? I'm at MissY_C's at the moment so don't have my stockpile of bits to hand!

Yeah I'm surprised it didn't lock the back wheel solid.

The front one is an odd shape but the rear is a standard bolt. You can get away with using an M8 or M10 bolt to get you back home mate.

I've had same happen to me and got away with it too.
Brake line(braided hose) got ripped off in my case

Don't you wish you had a split pinned bolt on it????? or was it the other end?

I had thought about doing that to mine, but it has never been a problem since and I wasn't 100% sure what caused it.

I didn't feel anything different, bit worrying!
Think he's sorted it now, so I don't have to worry too much going home tomorrow:rolleyes:

When the caliper grabbed it yanked the hose and wrapped it round the swingarm, we were doing less than 5mph, and all it felt like was the lever retaliating to me standing on it all these miles! Obviously the hose being squashed put a lot of pressure back through the system.
Doesn't look to be losing much/any fluid so will avoid using it and put a new line on it tomorrow or thursday

Mine was completely alright, with a HEL braided hose.
I heard and felt a little knock so had a quick look down and saw no calliper at first so pulled over, didn't have a problem with the brake pedal. I removed my tax disc holder (bolted on to where the left pillion peg was with a M8 bolt) and used the bolt as a temporary replacement to get me home. No probs!

well I have been informed that both ends should be lock nuts, but, on the black bike there is a split pin on the frame end of the arm. Was there when i got it. I had a split pin in my old bike, and I've never seen one disappear. maybe its just me being wierd but they seem to stay put more than a nut:confused:

Thats correct....

Was a common thing done on '99 models at a service once, it wasn't a recall or something mentioned by Suzuki it was just done. Maybe some mechanics kept seeing them loose and opted to split pin them, it was common with George Whites and Fowlers IIRC.

Dunno cause both my bikes have got GSXR torque arms on them.....maybe the previous owner just thought that was the best way to do it.
