I was in an accident back in august, and about 3 weeks ago the sv got taken away by a nice man to fix it.

it was still running and i had been using it for commuting and stuff so it wasnt that serious.

when he took away my loverly baby, he left me a 06plate hornet.

(mind you both are restricted to 33bhp)

Oh MY GOD!!!

i want my sv back!

this thing just feels pathetic,
where did the engine breaking go?
feels like it has no balls below 4k and cause of restrictor none above 7k.

hopefully will be getting my sv back at the weekend (if all goes to plan)

at least a restricted sv will lift the front wheel by chopping the throttle, the hornet wont even come up with clutch.

anyway this was just to say that i miss my sv and they are by far one of the best bikes to take restriction and im glad i made my choice!!

Booo, get that SV back! To be fair, according to Hooligan Dan I think Hornets are really not that bad unrestricted, as up high is where all the fun is ;)

My hornet got gold stars for sheer comfort and riding position, though the SV engine won me over hands down, but with my ageing back I could not ride the damn thing more than 30 minutes.

I always wanted to like the Hornet, but we didn't fit... Fantastic bikes on paper though. I daresay if you rode a restricted SV and a standard Hornet you'd feel the same.

i like the look of it, i liked the style i just hate the way the engine runs (do all Il4's feel the same?)

The sv has won my heart, i cant wait for restriction to be gone in 11months.

I have an 06 plate Hornet sitting in my garage that I am STILL awaiting the hire people coming to take out.

I rate it above the 07 VFR800 I had, in fact I took the hornet out for a 30 mile ride, just because it was quite fun.

Then 2 days later I got my Z750

Haven't even looked at the Hornet since, apart to glare at it when I cant get past it to get to stuff at the back of the garage.

I thought it felt gutless.

The engine braking however, I must say, you will never get the likes of SV v-twin engine braking in a 4 pot, whether a v-four or an inline 4.

Faster than the SV. More comfortable than the SV. Better suspension than the SV. Better built than the SV. More power than the SV. Lighter than the SV. Umm, yeah they're rubbish! As you can tell, I think Hornet's beat the SV on pretty much all counts except sound of engine. But then they are more expensive.

You cannot compare two bikes when they are restricted. The SV probably fairs better restricted due to the lower torque range. My '04 Hornet is simply sublime and I have never found it dull or boring. It's an IL4 so you have to get it to 5k and then it takes off like a rocket but it still has loads of grunt below that. In fact used to regularaly race a friends SV and I alway beat his SV off the line, I've also never been overtaken in a flat out race by an SV. there'a clue there........:p

Anyway, enough SV bashing. The SV is still a great bike. The Hornet is just a better bike in my opinion due to build quality, handling and comfort (compared to the SVS which is a different seating position so a little unfair).

The Hornet in my garage is a rusty bag-o-crap.

So wouldnt say the build quality is THAT much better.

I can however see where he is coming from on the SV being better, it IS a much more interesting bike (the Hornet was a bit bland in my opinion - like the VFR)

Sure you can comment on the 5k+ stuff, but if all someone is riding is in town stuff then the Hornet is not the bike for them.

I have now ridden 2 Honda's and must say I am not impressed by them, both seem kind of beige....

but then that could be that I jusr wasnt riding them in a way to get the best out of them.

If you want to argue that V twins are better than IL4's then that's a whole different argument and the answer is just that 'they are different'. As for build quality, my bike has done 26'000 miles through 3 winters and still looks great. I bought an SV from new and it rusted within 3 months! Also town riding on a Hornet is more comfortable and it doesn't chug around like the SV does. When I said it flies after 5k that doesn't mean it won't work until you get to 5k! Seriously, you must have ridden like my nan to think the Hornet is bland.

If you are looking for 33bhp restricted bikes my advice is always put the V engines at the top of the list, the restrictor kits mainly restrict the top end where IL4's make most of their power!

The hornet is a good bike, a very good bike, buy I wouldn't have thought it would be that great with a restrictor on it even though it is a lower state of tune CBR motor.

Send them a bill for storage?

Tell them you're going to park it on a red route and see how long it takes to get towed?

+1 for that. I love my Hairnet. I prefer the IL4 power band compared to the V twin grunt. However IMO you cannot compare restricted Hairnet and SV. Hairnet does not take off untill 6k+ and the real fun start 8k and above so it is like riding a different bike.

The Hairnet wins on build quality hands down. Done 15,000 miles on it last year including winter months and it still looks like new.

Indeed it does look V nice. Gotto say though SV wins on noise. Sorry dave (I know you admit it) but sawing machine big style! :p

Seems a nice bike. To be fair though they do cost ?1K more new. You can (almost) get a new SV thou for that .

With the Exhausts!? NOOOOO WAY!!!!!! :smt071

I had the new one as a hire bike for over a month. The styling is okay but that exhaust is not my cuppa. Handles well but doesn't seem to go as well. That said mine has a straight through can and the hire bike still had cats in it so could have been the problem. That said the Italian hornet cup version made me horny.

Well said that man! Bikings not about how well the bike does what it does, thats just transport. Bikings about what the bike does for you as an individual. If you enjoy a smooth ride and top end revvy hooligan madness, the Hornets a great bike.

My colleague has rented a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 for a work biking weekend, it'll probably be a pile of crap that doesn't go round corners unless you're he-man, but I'm sure I'll still love it!

The SV does do well restricted 'cos of the low down grunt. The Hornets not a good bike to restrict.

I've got a 600 Hornet and an SV 650. The Hornet is definitely the bike to ride in order to get somewhere, it's faster, smoother and more comfortable. Unfortunately once there the SV is more fun to hoon around on. Bottom line is they are both very good bikes but each in their own way.

No doubt the Sv sounds great. You can hear Yorkie Chris from miles away. The Hairnet would be better with a race can too, but it's not worth the money IMO. I keep piling the miles on so another ?200 on top of what I already spent would be a waste. Don't take me wrong I would have it if I could, but I rather get more into my "new Fireblade fund" so I can pimp that up :-)

Well...the Hornet is a better bike than the SV. It is simply better.

The SV does do some good stuff but the Hornet just is.

The advantage is the SV is making its power lower down so suits a restriction whereas the Hornet is revvy.

Then why didn't I buy a Hornet?

Too expensive...not a V twin...not as good looking as the SV and no fairing.

The Hornet is Buzzy.

I had to laugh at Fast Bikes magazine reviewing, I think it was the ZX10R, and banging on and on about lightweight this and lightweight that, how you could really feel the weight difference... Yep, sure you can, the model they were testing was heavier than the old one :D

I dunno, I think mine no longer qualifies as a middleweight...

Thats one fat git. My bike is about 180KG dry now after removing the twin anchors off the back. I only weight 65KG too :D

My Zed is 208 dry.

I think they may have moved the middle-weight goal posts.....

Man what's with the weight!? They have a weird firing order do those Zed's. They don't sound like IL4's imo. Heard one the other day. Sounded ok as far as IL4's go.

So what we have discovered is that people prefer the Hornets suspenders. Hmmm. Can sort the SV's out easy. :D

Yep, with a bit more money the SV's biggest drawbacks can be sorted, i.e suspenders and brakes. I think the SV does look nice (well the pointy) but I do prefer my naked Hornet a bit more. I just love 'em naked. :)

i wouldnt compare an inline 4 with a v twin... suzuki has made a great road going bike which is user friendly albeit with a budget(bouncy) suspension and this bike like all suzukis will rot under you if you dont look after it. v twins are definitely more interesting...but i am biased!!
