Hi people, thanks for all of the suggestions. Ive striped the choke cable and its all free no problems there but the bike is still reving at 3000, when putting the air filter housing back on i knocked a black/yellow wire off front primary circuit wiring whats connected to the front HT coil, the rev counter stopped working and the bike was idling perfect put the wire back on and it goes straight to 3000revs and the counter works again.
Canj someone pls help its driving me crazy:smt088

cant help mate but I am surprised no one has been along who can ..

they will do
this is a good place..

wait and patience.

i am rubbish but pie in the sky ideas.

1. could it be a problem with the accelerator cable not the choke cable? or throttle?. or wires passed up to the throttle in wrong way so they are revving when the wheel is turned.
2. is the idle adjustment knob not working properly

I am sure u checked all these.

do you have a Haynes?.. did u connec tthe wire properly back on?

I just read the original post by you cos I was intrigued-
I see mr Sid Squid made a comment - he aint usually wrong.

if all else is ok.. it sounds like the bike is on throttle..

have you adjusted the throttle cable adjustment? there are 2 cables ones a return and the nuts to adjust each if i recall.. u prob know this.. mefinks u need take petrol tank off too. ! cant remember maybe lift off the carbs also.

anyway it could just be that- as if you are sat on bike and it idle norm but apply a few revs- if your throttle is not closing down fully .

sorry .. i may be way off the mark but I am bored and lonely. :smt088

Taylor,

ANy chance you could tell where the choke cable is and howbest to replace it?

I've got a similar problem to you, as when I start the engine it idles away at 1500 then when I rev the engine up to 3000 - 4000 rpm it actually sticks at that level.

If that bike in your avatar is yours, then you're in for a bit of a shocker - there isn't a choke on the FI pointy models. Don't know what the problem is though, so someone with a better idea should be along shortly.

That sounds like the throttle is to tight , or sticking.
Throttle should have a few mm( i think 3mm) free play.
You can adjust the throttle free play on the 2 little plastic nuts coming out of your throttle hand.

Would it be possible that when the throttle is released the rev should come back down, the throttle does return / snap back as nrmal but the revs still are at 3000 rpm

sonds like it needs just a little adjustment- maybe at the throttle body end under the tank but try first at the top end adjusters-

just because the "tube" throttle returns does not mean it is releasing fully. it needs to be in sync.. tae the tank up and the air box off and look at the cable and throttle bodies and adjust until when closed it actually closes the throttle- its set too tight or is snagging.

sounds like a job to big for me, I'll try the top end adjustment first and see what happens.

Some news, I know found out that I was running with only 1 cylinder, and the ignition coil has to be replaced which has fixed the problem.
