ICE numbers. In Case of Emergency numbers.

Now the start of the rideout season is upon us.

Most of us carry a mobile phone whilst out on the bike, so it makes sense to have a list of contact numbers readily available if the worst should happen. The emergency services are, I believe, trained to look for such numbers as should be your mates you're riding with.

I have a Nokia phone which allows ?Groups? to be made. Therefore one group is ICE and I have added to it all relevant numbers, with a tag explaining who they are, including bike recovery.

Please do the same on your phone, however you choose and also remember not to pin-lock it, keypad lock is ok, and to have enough charge and credit too.

I doubt that at the side of the road, the emergency services are going to go looking through your clothing to find your mobile.

I however, carry a laminated card in my wallet. It is effectively ICE information. My name, address, next of kin, intolerance of ibuprofen and contacts numbers.

On the otherside, it contains my driving licence number, insurance policy number and claim/recovery phone numbers.

I have groups on my nokia but how do you search for number just in that group??

EDIT: never mind.... sorted.

Yeah but now peeps who are riding with them from this site will know ;)

On bigger rides, I normally tell someone where my insurance docs are and that there is a phone number for my missus, in the worst case scenario.

Most of the traffic coppers and ambulance crews round here know me on first name terms (through the local bike club) so I don't bother locally. When I'm out of area I always carry my driving licence photocard and mobile with my home, mum and dad's names clearly identifiable in the contacts list.

good idea scoobs, as in like the meditags, as they will be trained to look for those. probably a better idea than looking through a phone , which could get smashed in a fall.

The old bill will or the staff when you get to hospital.

Good advice Pete!

The police will check the registration details of your vehicle first and if you live local and have another person on the voting register they will send a unit around. This is what happened with me at my first major accident. If you are a distance away from home then the ICE scheme really is a life saver!

I personally also have a set of dog tags with my Name, D.O.B, Blood Group and NI number on them.

Not a bad guess. I sold my blue/black Thunderace to a Scottish guy in 21 Sigs about 4 or 5 yrs ago. Can't remember his name (John Strachan?) but the bike was regd P97 GPY

Stupid idea those USB ones, means any first responder must have a computer with him. Stick to the standard dog tags and ICE scheme!
