My ignition is having a real issue turning in any direction...

and secondly and more importantly
im getting a squeeking sound when i pull off in the morn for about 1/5th of a mile, then it stops when it apppears to have warmed up.. it gets faster but not louder as i speed up..??
any ideas

Not too sure about the first problem but the second could possibly be a tight link in the chain? when was the last time you cleaned and lubed it? I had a similar squeak on mine and it turned out to be that.

it is due for an oil.. but i dont know it sounded like the breaks area..

Sticking rear pad?? Give the caliper/piston interface a cleanup and see if that helps.

A drop of 3-in-1 oil down the ignition barrell should sort that too! Seems to be a common problem!

As suggested before, put a drop of oil in the ignition barrel and on the key and give the bike a look over arond the brakes and chain to help clarify what is squeaking!

If the noise 'speeds up' with you picking up speed it'll be something around the wheels / brakes. Makes sense if you think about it. If it 'speeds up' with the engine reving then its engine related.

First instance probably a binding caliper, strip and clean. Easy check is stop and feel the disc, is it hot? if so somethings rubbing it and causing friction.

Second instance would be more difficult to diagnose without hearing it.

The ignition key on my dad's sv sticks. Try pushing the key forward before turning it. That's what works for him.

By all means try the above, but there's also a little known issue with SV barrels inparticular...

Basically, the spring in the mechanism can get a little cloged up & sticky rather than springy. There's 2 solutions to this:

Strip, clean & rebuild the barrel. I wouldn't attempt this unless you know what you're doing though, as they never go back together with the same number of pieces.
Put the key in the barrel (after putting in some 3-in-1), get a LIGHT hammer, and give it a sharp TAP. That should be enough to release the spring a little, then the oil will help to lubricate it.Mine is doing exactly the same at the moment, a tap will fix it temprarily, but I haven't bothered putting oil in the barrel yet. Must remember to do this at some stage...

Thats normal for SV's.

i set off this morning and the squeeking didnt stop.. however it did when i put the brakes on... it doesnt speed up when i rev the engine.. only when the wheels are moving.. so PHEW! its not the engine.. im suspecting the LH caliper.. what is binding?

Sticky ignition barrel - I had the exact same problem after an off presumably dislodged some crucial gubbins. Baph's solution number 2 solved the prob for me.
