View Full Version : Can anyone help me with my bike please?

Would anyone be able to help with my track/race bike. I need to change the front pads on it and check and adjust the clutch before Silverstone and make sure everything else is okay.

I have ordered some brake pads, so I hope to get them next week.

I'm off work from the evening of the 26th I'm not working again till april. So if anyone could help before I go to Silverstone that would awesome. I have owned bikes less than year, so I don't much about servicing bikes, but I want to learn!

My bike is near Aylesbury, at my parents I have to keep them seperate as I don't have enough room in London to store them both!

If anyone could help that would be ace! I'm doing 12 hour shifts over today and tomorrow so won't be online much.

the pads are a straight forward jod and the clutch you can adjust up at the lever or down where the cable gose into the engine.;););)

Too far away for me to come along and help but more than happy to walk you through it online or over the phone. Get yourself a downloaded copy of the relevant bike service manual from this site and take a look, the instructions are pretty straightforward.

Thanks for that! But is there no one closer that could help please, as it the brakes I need to work onI want to make sure that I have done it right. I don't want to come off becasue I didn't quite get it right or worse damage the bike or me.

There's a bit more to it than that:
Slacken off cable adjusters at top and bottom, loosen lifter locknut, back out screw a bit, ensure that lifter arm is as far down as it will go, gently turn screw in until it contacts pushrod, back it out a bit, (~1/8th of a turn), then nip up the locknut, roughly adjust cable with lower adjuster - not too tight - then with top adjuster ensure that there remains a little slack all the way from lock to lock.

I would have thought that both those jobs are easy and quick enough to do first thing when you get to Silverstone, there will be plenty of experts around you then. The only downside is if there is something else wrong (seized caliper etc) that you are not aware of you may not have the parts available to fix it. Have you ridden the bike on a circuit yet since you bought it? If not, and you really are as unexperienced at preparation as you say then you ought to not just get someone who knows how to change pads/adjust clutch, but someone who is well into track bikes to go over the whole machine. By the way, are you still coming to Liege in May?

well thats the way i do it!! the 2 jobs would only take at the most 20 mins or so so you could do as RED says wait till you get 2 the track then you defo wont be stuck for any help etc...;)

Nope Silvestone will be the first time I will have ridden the bike! So yes you are right. I haven't done any of the things to the bike that I need to before:smt100. So any help would be good!

Leige is still happening for me, I just need to sort paying for the trip and get the leave sorted out. That I will be looking foward too! We are staying in the Chataue somewhere so it all sounds good! Going to have meet over there, I hope to be at some Bemsee meets before then as well.

Get it to Silverstone with the new pads and I'll fit them when you get there. The clutch can be adjusted at the same time.
