View Full Version : Lofting the front
Hello All,
I appreciate there are prbably a load of wheelie threads, and to my credit, I did do a search, but didn't really find the answer I'm looking for. (OK, I admit, it was a quick search - but I really did do one).
So, I am wondered about wheelie-ing the humble sv650. I have still only done 10 miles on my new steed, due to weather / family commitments etc. But I am wondering, is it possible? Is there a certain technique you need to use? Or is it too underpowered?
BTW, is this in the right forum? I thought there was a riding skills forum, but I don't seem to be able to see it.
In the past week there has been 2 big discussions on it.
In summary, yes you can do it, and do it relatively easily.
But
You will starve your engine of oil, and oil will get in you airbox etc......at some point your engine will blow up, and sv suspension is cheap and hence can get damaged with hard drop downs.
Do a search for Davido!

Used to be easy enough with a 14t front sprocket on my old one in second gear with a good pull up. Be careful if you have only done 10 miles though ey.

only 10 miles and already wanting to wheelie?the words walk before run spring to mind.
Your engine will not blow up just doing power wheelies.
You have to be able to wheelie for a good 30 secs minimum before you even have to think about oil starvation.
Most people on here won't ever be able to hold a wheelie for 30 seconds in one gear, as this requires you to be at balance point.
The SV is a great bike to wheelie. Loads of torque, a short rev range to amke you get the bike high quickly in order to ride the wheelie out and a ****load of engine braking, which will give you good throttle control and might save your ass if you go too far.
Mine blew up because i wheelie about half a mile with practically no oil in the engine, a silly mistake, but I still maintain that if I'd had oil in there the engine would last for a couple of minutes on one wheel easy.

Wait for the low fuel/lets easy wheelie light to come on. Big licks on the loud handle. Instant legend!:geek:
